Hi guys,

I was wondering what the CHRISTIAN members here thought about missions. (please no atheists/buddhists/etc post) I'm contemplating going on one this December in the Middle East but I'm kind of conflicted because while Jesus did teach to spread his message to others, I've found the missionaries I spoke with to be kind of self-righteous and doing it more for personal satisfaction, status among other Christians, and excitement. I feel like I also may be doing it just for excitement too but I know this is the wrong reason to go on one. Also, I'm probably going to be conversing with Muslims who already believe in Jesus' moral teachings (but not his resurrection) and I'm not sure I'm that strong in faith to confront them about their false bliefs. Anyone here have any experiences on a mission, particularly in Muslim countries? I know in the previous Catholic v Christian post, there were a couple of you.

Thanks!

gashin, I think your wanting to go on a mission is a great idea. But the middle east might be a little more exciting than you bargined for. But you don't have the spirit of fear, right? Your heart's in the right place, even if you think of a mission as a great adventure. I don't think God is out to make our lives stale, but to enrich them, don't you? He's probably excited about your going too. Remember, everyone has a right to choose or refuse your good news message. Just bless them all. :)

Well, playing in Christs ballpark was never easy.

First and foremost, are they SAVED? If not, work on that angle first.

Then, once they know Jesus Christ as their personal saviour, their life will turn around.

To that of a free thinking person. And realize the country is dying.

Remember folks, this country was formed based on GOD. We turn his back on Him, in response, He turns his back on us.

Sorry folks if I seem like some sort of bible thumper here, but from what I read and evaluate, the end times are here.

As to me, I'll vape 'tilll the end. :)

I'd spend some time and learn a little bit about the Muslim religion before you jumped in neck deep. Realize that you will be going over there to convert them...and their religion tells them to kill people that do that. Their religion also tells them to lie to you in order to gain your trust so (again) you can be converted or slain.

Spent a few years in the sandbox the first time we went over there...when we kicked .... and left. It's a completely different world, even down to the simple things like going to the bathroom.

Maybe try South America instead?

It is predicted that it won't belong before the major part of the population of America will be non-Christian.
With that and the way America government is turning its back on God, it’s believed that this country is doomed.
At this point, to reverse this, I think we need all those who want to spread the word to remain in this country and do just that.
But, I must admit, God may reject America, but he will not reject anyone who truly believes so go where you feel you must go.

If you got the calling then by all means follow it. That you question it, might be that your not set to do it.

If me I would think twice, the middle east is where 2 of the largest religions started. Christianity and Islam, everyone living there knows them, the Christ and Mohammed both walked those sands, and before them Moses and Abraham. I would think you would have better luck in a heathen country like france. They have one of the highest Godless rates. After france maybe Chinia or Russia.

If you go, go because JESUS says so...who cares what everybody else, with you, thinks or does. Besides...JESUS got along with everybody.

If it was me, I'd go to 'explain' things, not win converts--if they believe any of what you said, they'll convert themselves. Remember the sermon on the mound? Other than going to the cross, it was JESUS's finest shining moment.

Reread that sermon on the mound, I feel that's what all of us should do. Not that finger pointing and telling everybody they're going to hell if they don't listen of us/JESUS.

That going to hell speech is for tonight, when, at the stroke of midnite, comes the rapture.....that's when you take the gloves off and grab as many as you can before the end....

...not during breakfast.

bye
