so whats your story? how you all bring in the money?
not trying to pry. just trying to get to know everyone. suppose i'll start since its my question...
-i work(ed) in a foundry....(had finger amputated in a band saw in march. i'm still on comp but i was just laid off so i guess now i am unemployed)
started out as an inspector.... title was quality technician.
i have only been there 2 years but started moving through the ranks. i actually love the foundry and the work. i'm lucky i guess cause i moved up in rank and pay fast. i just went after it. there are people that work in entry level jobs that have been there 20 years. dont really understand why.
anyway,
started out doing inspections. bid on a job in the metal lab and got it.
now i'm a 'metalographer' and i run chemistry and check physical properties
they bought a new cnc and offered me the job
now i'm a machinist
they put me in school and now i'm a programmer
started doing tensile tests and lean management as well as quality audits so now i'm a 'quality engineer'
---------thats how scuffler brings in the money
it's a dangerous, dirty place but i love it. people all around town know about the place. people either are scared of it or really want to work there cause of the pay.
it's funny though. they will hire 5 people on monday and by friday only 1 will be left.
i was training a guy once and he went to the bathroom and never came back. i went to see if he was sick or hurt and his boots and hard hat were in the bathroom. he booked out of there. haha
