Yea - my "parental units" named me Tom - I got new "parental units" when I was adopted at age 5 and the new ones kept it the same. Now I am just to darned old to care I guess HAHAHA.

Old high school nickname (Cracker) combined with vehicle I was driving when I first got onto forums 12 or so years ago (Integra). I've had the handle so long I use everywhere even though I haven't had that car in over 8 years.
It was the nickname given to me since I was a baby. I was a short round italian baby, said I looked like a mug and it stuck.
My screenname is the best handgun design EVER! LOL I use the same name on multiple gun and Jeep boards. More people call me Gov than my real name John, it seems!
Mine is an acronym, stands for "International Man of Leisure". The story behind this - I got laid off from a job about 10 years ago and made business cards with that phrase printed on them to give out to my friends so we could keep in touch. It stuck

My screen name is the community I live in and have lived in my entire life. My great, great granddaddy moved here in 1851 and it was named for him. It is not an incorporated community and it is just what this area is called.
Tanuki is a mythical creature of indulgence and mischief in Japanese folklore. I'm Caucasian but I found the character very interesting when I took Japanese in college. Tanuki have an enormous magical scrotum they can use to fly, or pull over themselves to morph into another appearance and they love saki. (Seriously, I'm not making this up.) There is a tanuki suit in the Mario Bros. franchise (looks like a fox suit sans testes) that allows Mario to fly. The XL is just there because tanuki was taken. There was a popular kids animated series about them as well.
Smallville is the fictional town in Kansas where Superman grew up. It is also used by Lois Lane as a nickname for Clark Kent. As I am a HUGE Superman fan, and you can NEVER get Superman as a user name, I stopped trying and now just go for Smallville (which is normally available, surprisingly).
For many years I could use my name (Groenhof) on the internet without ever finding one like it. No problem getting email addresses or any other type of internet account. A few years ago I sign up for face book, and wham, I'm already there, but I look like a kid. Since I'm kind of old I assume I was around first so I must be "The" John G. and he is some kind of copy.

My username is just a shortening of an alias I use on other, unrelated forums and blogs. It's basically the username I use with all spaces, vowels and capitalisation removed (though this wasn't intentional - I just missed out a few letters and later realised I'd removed all vowels).
that's awesome. I will probably do that eventually. I've been living out of my van and on friend's couches, but I really want to get out in nature more and learn how to survive outside of modern society. when i'm older and no longer want to live like this, ill probably try to settle down somewhere like that.
