rounding third and heading home...
could someone explain the purpose of a pre-order? other than getting your money early is it strickly a marketing tool? a popular item never in stock is going to be re-ordered by the vendor as soon as they able to anyway, so why not order, get them in and sell them? it seems like the lines at Disney which are set up to give the illusion of progress , but are just keeping you moving to kill time. why not keep the customers informed about the timetable of the order and actually sell them when they arrive? is anyone leary about paying up front? I just paid for a Russian rba but don't feel any better having "reserved" my purchase, I just feel a little lighter in my wallet.....

Depends on the item. When there were pre-orders for the protank 2 I knew I was gonna want one as soon as they hit the states so I went ahead and pre-ordered. It helped that the site I used had a nice price on the tank too. Realistically, I could have waited for them to start being in stock all the time but I geek out over new stuff I want.

In the case of your Russian (the 91% or the big one? I just got an email saying that the big one wouldn't be around for like 3 months) that is a product that is made in a limited run. With it being as popular as it is I would say your preorder was a good idea.

Some items, not just e-cig related sell out FAST! Think about the popularity of a video game console like the Xbox One.
Without my pre-order on it, guaranteeing that I'll get one, there's no telling when they'll be restocked after the first batch sells out. Could be a day. A week. Two months. So, to ensure that I get something that I want as soon as it comes out, I pre-ordered.

In a way, it IS a marketing tool. The retailer is going to make the same amount of money by selling out ASAP, regardless of pre-ordering. But, it allows people to guarantee themselves the item the first day it hits the market. Thus, the retailer makes money sooner. Pre-orders give the illusion of demand, whether it's there or not. But then, when a customer sees that they only have 2 left out of the available 30, they feel the need to get it. :2c:

Also, I kind of just rambled on there. This post kinda got away from me.

Think of it like reserving a room. Let me ask, if you decide that you no longer want the Russian, can you cancel the pre-order? Did they already charge your card? I'm ok with a reputable company holding my cc info for when the item ships, but not to charge me in advance before the product is available.
