I have been vaping for a little over a week and it has been a relatively painless transition from a pack of analogs a day. What I haven't been able to pin down is exactly what gives me the throat and chest "hit" that closely resembles that of an analog. These have been my experiences so far...

I started with a N4081 and 12mg Marlboro and Coffee flavors from overseas. - mild to no hit, but managed to get off analogs anyway.

Got an M401 and noticed about the same. Dripped on the M401 and things were quite a bit better.

Got some 16mg Marlboro from puresmoker and noticed a much more pronounce hit, especially when dripping. 12mg Cola seemed about the same. Both were better in the N4081 too. No real hit on the 12mg Cappucino, but good flavor.

Added a 901 and got a smooth consistent draw, lots of vapor and good flavor, but not as much of a hit as the 401.

Finally, got some 24mg Friskee and Mint from esmoker and Woohoo! Great hits on all three devices.

Now my question - is it the higher nicotine content, the more powerful flavors, the relative concentration of flavor from different sources or a combination of all three that is yielding the best results? I am going to try some more combinations to get the best bang at the lowest nic, but so far I have really screwed up the testing with too many variables!

Sorry for the long post and thanks for your insights.

I've also found that I get the best throat hit from higher nicotine content. The highest I have is a menthol 24mg - and I do get a really nice throat hit off of that. Low nic I get little to zero throat hit. Also, you want to make sure the batteries are fully charged.. the throat hit could lesson as the battery loses its charge.

So for me to get max throat hit I do two things:
1. Use high nicotine content
2. Ensure the battery is fully charged (Using one of the mod battery packs work best)

Manual switches allow the atty to run longer and hotter. Also, inhale into your mouth, hold for a second, then inhale - gives it a bigger "pop"

Third, nic strength is also a factor....

When I get my SD back from repairing (don't ask......) I'm gonna try vaping some no nic, just to see what kind of throat hit I get off that...

I have the SD and get no throat hit if I don't use high nicotine content. Are you guys saying you get throat hit with no nic ?

High strength (16 and up) knocks me silly - I use 11 and below (even 11 sometimes throws me for a loop)

Do you draw directly into your lungs, or do you draw into your mouth first, then inhale? Pulling into your mouth first, holding it a moment, then inhaling the whole shebang at once gives you an extra pop....

Haven't tried no nic with my SD yet, so I can't tell you that.....

I am vaping no nic JC Tennessee Cured. For me it is the device that delivers the hit. For a stock E-cig, my 510 manual gives the best hit for me. I also get a throat hit when I am using a 901 passthrough direct, full 5 volts, with no inline battery. And also with my magnum 6 volt mod.
I can get a slight throat hit by holding it in my mouth then inhaling it all at once, or if I inhale while I am taking a drag, I can take bigger longer hits and I feel it hitting in my lungs as well. This is how I do it if I want a stonger hit. For these reasons I love my 510 manuals with no cutoffs. I am just carefull not to hit too long and burn up an atty. Usually 5 to 6 seconds is more than enough, then I let it cool before I take another.

Just some thoughts from my own experience regarding the 'throat hit'....

It's the nicotine content of the juice....without a doubt the higher the better. It's the quality of the juice. It's how much juice is in your cart. It's a freshly charged battery and the quality of that battery. It's the way you inhale. It's the length of the cutoff of the e-cig you are using (with a manual battery where you control the cutoff being the best) and it's the quality of the atomizer in the type of e-cig you are using.

The atomizer really seems to be the major key in the equation and that's where you run into quality control problems. For example, the 401 is an e-cig which many people like and praise. But the 401 I purchased was so bad I returned it, and I had 2 atomizers with it. But does that mean all 401s are bad? No, it just means the one I had with it's two atomizers was.

My 901 was just Ok with it's first atomizer, but kicks my throat in a nice way with the 2nd one.

My 501 with a manual battery where I can contol the cutoff time is the best of all. The manual battery is a big part of that, but mostly it's because the atomizer in a 501 is the best I've experienced. It just seems to be more powerful and heats the liquid more. I really believe the heat of what you are inhaling is the main key to the throat hit. So when it comes to atomizers the ones that are able to heat the liquid the most are the best. They may get so hot that you feel it while holding it, but that's something I'll never complain about because the throat hit is so good! With that said, I'm sure there are people who have purchased 501s with a bad atomizer and they gave up on the 501. Here again, it's the quality control part of it.

Anyway, that's just my opinion after a night on the town and vaping a lot of 24mg liquid....

i gotta ripoff 901. i think they call it a 4075 or some crap like that. but anyways i get massive throat hits with 36mg marlboro nic. straight lung hits or mouth draws then lunger. i can can choke off both. go high nic. I LOVE HIGH NIC!!!!!! High nic is where the throat hits are at.

I just really hate how much i gotta top off. When i subscribed to this game i thought a cart was equivalent to a pack of analogs. Naw, in my terms it's more like 8 cigs. i aint savin much money over analogs, but i enjoy this more. better taste. healthier (i think). in the house around my kids. no stinky ... smell. and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more convienent. all in all a better product, but i kinda hold a little reservation towards the whole pack a cigs being equivalent to a cart. what a lie.

I agree about the claim that a cart is equal to a pack of cigs. Now way, no how.

But I do get a nice throat hit from 0 nic juice. I ordered the RY4 in 0 nic from ruyandirect and I really didn't think it would work. Now I'm using 0 nic for at least half of the juice I use per day. I really think I can go down to 0 nic all day if I can get the juice. It's actually harder to find than I thought. Here's hoping that whatever happens (or doesn't) on May 5 won't affect ruyandirect!

I get the best hit (from either penstyle or 901) by cultivating a long, slow, easy draw. Nic counts, but for me going above about 12mg makes no difference. Some flavors (PS coke for example) seem to deliver hit via flavor.

Just to make this analysis worth even less, there are times when nothing gives me any satisfaction, and times when I can enjoy almost any juice.

So true for me too! But I had the same thing with analogs -- often I smoked just to get the nicotine, other times I really enjoyed the smoke itself.

I seldom got a throat hit with penstyle, 901s were much better for me and 510 is a champ.

I would guess the combination of high nicotine eliquid, good (clean) atomizer, and full battery charge are all important in about that order.

there r a lot of choices but remember with all the years you are going to live longer then if you kept toking on those nasty ash producers... you will have plenty of time to decide which ecig you like the best..... I tried a disposable e-cig.com and they are cheap and i have no problem with my atomizer as of yet.... keep up the good work and let us know when you find the perfect combination...

My experience -
DSE601 (cigar) = no throat hit, sitting in a drawer unused.
DSE901 (mini) = very good throat hit.
DSE601 is a pipe, isn't it?
Not that it matters for this discussion really. Just caught my eye because I have a 601 on order. But if you want to get rid of that one sitting in your drawer unused ...
