That's the general idea with a tank/carto setup. The carto fits inside the tank, expanding capacity and opening a whole new world of fiddly with punching, slotting, etc. They tend to be messier than the wick-style tanks, but that usually gets better with practice. IMO the vapor quality is somewhat better and more consistent with the tank/carto, at the expense of taking a bit more effort. I have both and favor the wick-style tanks since they are just easier to deal with.

Somewhere out there
There are two types of tanks, the carto tank and wick tank, I suggest trying both to see what suits you best. I actually like both types. I use glass tanks with cartos and the flavor is fabulous. I also just tried the SMOKteck Screw Tank, MyVaporStore, new name is Titan tank, Got Vapes, it uses wicks. It has preformed very well, with wick tanks you have to watch how full you fill your juice to and also be careful to not use higher volts if you use a LR one or it will get fried, other than that this wick tank is consistent with great flavor. Fill in am and vape all day no fiddling. bnrk

Is there a guide or info all compiled into one that I can read? I'm not sure about this punching or slotting business. Not sure about this but won't it flood the atomizer?
This is done to a cartomizer that has it's own wicking material (stuffing) inside. The holes or slots provide a path for continuous fluid delivery to the wicking. It works like an oil lamp. Once the carto is sealed in a tank, the wicking material contains the fluid. They only flood when you overfill them. Pushing the tank together forces liquid into the carto. Too much and you have a flood. My tank pushes just enough to re-saturate the wick without flooding on a refill.

I'm sure someone will be along with some mystery mojo on the effect of different methods. The openings just have to be large enough to permit the same flow of liquid that the material inside the carto will supply to the coil (atomizer inside).
