I must admit ($100's of dollars later), I have the best PVs on the market and the best e-liquids. I love to vape and I can go 5, 8, even 10 hours vaping. But then the analog craving crawls all over me! So I have an analog and can immediately taste nasty chemicals on the back of my tongue. I think I enjoy it but want to kick myself all over the map for doing this. I'm trying real hard, but the sensation of actually lighting up and burning one seems regrettably satisfying. I hate this!

what is wrong with you?

1. you're a jets fan living in florida
2. nothing. some people let the analogs go on the first day, others wean off bit by bit. and yet others continue to smoke and vape. if you beat yourself up, i think you're just making it harder on yourself to actually quit. set a date when you'd like to be analog-free and then work towards it. small successes are much more motivating than constant failures, IMO.

Why be so hard on yourself? Personally, I am thrilled to have found vaping 6 mths ago and enjoy it, but I still have 2 or 3 cigs a week. Why? Because I like it. Yes, despite what 99% of most here claim Vaping cannot replace a good cigarette, that is if you want one. So have one, enjoy it and then go back to vaping.
I'll never understand the mentality that this place has evolved into.
That is, you try vaping and you are some sort of pariah for lighting up again. I don't want to turn into one of those anti smoking nazis just because I vape.
So if you want one, have one. If you never want one again, great for you.
I think there needs to be a little more perspective here on vaping and smoking, I mean we are still addicts in one form or another.
I do not question anyones great success stories here, they can be inspiring to a noob, but also a drawback by putting too much pressure to think you failed some sort of stupid test.
Life's too short. If you have cut your old habit down by 95%, isn't that a success? Of course it is.
Enjoy !

Great point;)

I feel your pain. I do the same thing. Beat my self up and get so frustrated that I have so little self control... But what I'm clinging to is that it's only failure if you give up. If you still try it's only a setback.

I'm in the same boat with you, seriously. As cliche' as it sounds, just don't give up on your goal if it's what you really want. One step at a time my friend. If you need support to talk or blow off steam about it PM me. I seriously know how you feel about this!

I agree 100% with PMD. If you want to smoke a cigarette just do it. But, if you really don't want to smoke, I suggest you check out the subforum Other Alternatives to Smoking. Lots of other smokeless alternatives to cigarettes...snus and snuff for a couple. Lots of info in that subforum if you're interested. There are several people around here that e-cigs just aren't enough for them.

You guys need to try to quit being so hard on yourselves!!!!

I was a 3 pack a day analog smoker and never really had any intention of quitting. Just looking for a cheaper alternative. The 1st few weeks of vaping I smoked about 4 analogs a day. Then the number kept going down. A month in I had quit completely. I just did not like the analogs any more. I made no effort to stop the analogs. It just came on its own. So don't beat yourself up...just let the adventure continue.

From my brief time here what I noticed is yours is not an isolated case. And in every thread I read about similar circumstances the responses were very similar and positive. Don't pressure yourself since a reduction in analogs is still a victory. However if you really cut back you may need a storage plan to avoid the dreaded stale cig taste. :D

Some crave the other things in analogs so I suggest you take a look at the section of this forum about alternatives. I read swedish snus works for some. But really you should just reduce your expectations about your journey to getting off the analogs.

Like everything that is bad for us moderation is key. People I read about that only have one every now and then are still winners in my book coming down from pack a day+ habits.

Another similar circumstance here. I do not beat myself up though, as PMD pointed out, I see it as a huge victory to have cut down over 90%, and it doesn't bother me to have just one or two a day. Setting an ultimatum would only make this transition stressful. I too have noticed a drop in the number of smokes I have per week, as time passes. When I do light up, I just keep wondering why when it has become way less satisfying to do so, sometimes I say blah, put it right out and pick my PV up again, then biiiig smile. :D Sometimes you just have to give the PV time to replace an old routine, even if you live the rest of your life using both, that is better than where you were at in the first place.

Also wanted to add that the consistency of a big battery mod has made a huge difference in the amount of cigarette craving I have. Small Ecigs were not cutting it with the tedious maintenance of weak battreries and the inconsistant vapor that comes with it. You say you already have a collection of the best stuff, but if a mod is not one I suggest you try one out. At least it will retain it's value for resale.

Haha, I was going to say that! It's hard enough being a Jets fan in New York; we tend toward masochism.

Don't beat yourself up over the occasional smoke; Big Tobacco went to a lot of effort to get you hooked on those things and sometimes it's just as hard to break it. But if you're closer to two packs a month than two packs a day, that's a big change!

I started out with an 801 and then on to KR-8 w/Greencig cartos. Neither of these really cut for me. Then I found the 510! Stuck with it ever since. Now I own the 510, the 510 Mega, the Spade and the eGo. These are great PVs (IMO) coupled with TV, Ms T's, Innovapor, and Halo liquids. And yes, I have cut down from 40+ analogs/day to about 8 or 9. Some days are better than others. I suppose less than half a pack is better than 2 packs plus!

Thanks to everyone for your support!

You're definitely not alone.

Edit: Just saw your post. I really recommend a high voltage mod. They just deliver more and feel much more satisfying. 5/6v just made a huge difference for me personally.

You might also want to try snus and/or snuff. Check them out and read up at the Smokeless Tobacco subforum under Other Alternatives to Smoking. Nicotine isn't the only psychoactive substance in a cigarette and some of us need the extra alkaloids we can only get from tobacco -- but there are better ways to get it than smoking.

Whatever you do to make the final push to quit completely, don't beat yourself up....there are always other strategies and tweaks.

I've been struggling on and off for a while. Got an ego last week -so on again, and really enjoying this but then ran out of juice and had to quickly order from another supplier...still struggling to find ones I like and can stick to though.

I have to stop myself from "craving" all the PV's on the market! I've spent a small fortune already but it's sooo tempting when you read a post about someone's fantastic "xyz" model or the new models that are coming out. As soon as I get the juice thing sorted out then I'll put more commitment into my vaping and if/when I eventually rid myself of anologs -then I might treat myself to another model.

So far this week I'm down to just under a pack a day from my usual 40 - 45 anologs a day and I'm really proud of this; I don't feel the disgust and self loathing I used to feel when I'd check my packets at the end of the day and do a final tally up thinking "how the hell did I manage to smoke 42 cigarettes today?!!"

Little steps hopefully for us....;-)

Agree with PMD also - less is better and none is an option if you WANT IT TO BE. Otherwise, do what you feel is right for you.
Personally - right now - lighting up a cig is too scary for me to contemplate (I tried lighting one up and I was scared it was going to burn me, I can't explain that, I smoked for 20 years and never once felt that way). I prefer vaping right now. I can't tell what the future holds, hopefully not cigs, but who knows :)
