I have been a Citizens' Bander for ages, now I prefer to be a SWL (Short Wave Listener).
I have a nice receiver hooked up to the PC and i like to find and decode, digital trasmissions.
I also like to build my own antennas.
This hobby has been outdated by the internet, so nowadays there isn't really much to listen to, but i still like to spin the tuning knob :)
When I was little, before TV ouch, everyone had a great big huge radio that was about 4 ft. high by 2 ft wide and almost as deep that got 4 bands. One of them was short wave. I remember listing to different people around the world and at sea on them.
We had one something like this.

Nothing to listen to until men in black suits and sunglasses show up on your doorstep. I used to have a CB in my car years ago. After I married dh he stole it and put it in his truck. Then his truck got stolen...Sure was handy out in Nebraska where the bears hide in the corn fields and you can't see them until you pass them. :thumb:

(ok.... "LIKES" on ALL of these yall do!! )

My hobbies...

* hmm.. PIF, naturally.. I kinda look at this place as one of my hobbies.

* Volunteering at the school (often room mom.. or the one in charge of all art projects) I LOVE to work with the kids and be involved in my children's lives. I volunteer as much as I"m physically able to do!

*Anything and everything ART related. I've done it all... from writing and poetry.. to photography.. to sewing.. stainglass.. painting.. ect, etc, etc. IF I can attempt to create it, I do (learned that lovely lovely from my dad.. he is exactly that way)

*I also LOVE DIY projects. I've installed my own flooring, plumbing, dishwasher, fans.. etc. "I can't do it" is NOT in my vocabulary. If you've seen my house, then you know I am constantly painting my house. It's a quick easy fix to change the look of a room, and very relaxing for me.

*I love to garden, but usually end up killing the plants (no green thumb) unless it grows wild. Then I can grow it!! lol. I just find 'digging in the dirty', theraputic and relaxing.

*and lastly.. the 3 R's!! Reduce, REUSE, recycle. We are big on going natural, reusing, repurposing, etc. I consider it a hobby, because it does take up space to save and reuse things, or to find new ways to use them, to recycle things and find other ways to 'go green'....it takes time and commitment like a hobby.. so it counts!

That's about it! :)

lets see my main hobby would be working on cars... fixing em up, stuff like that, i like motorbiking(unsure if its a hobby or not but i spend alot of time doing it). recently ive enjoyed the DIY part of vaping, i tinker with everything, if it breaks im sure i can fix it haha, usually i get it done!-) i think thats what takes up the most of my time well except chasing around children lol

I have a CB, my husband is a truck driver and yes, they still use CB's to talk to each other- I have one in my truck and can talk to him if we happen to be on the road at the same time. He has two, one to talk to other drivers and one that is a company radio.

I used to do the PTA- loved it! but like I said, I got burned out when I fiqured out they didnt actually want our opinion, they wanted the PTA to be their cheerleaders no matter what they decided.

great looking chair, 5card!

Thank you. I also like picking up old broken up oat furniture and recycling the wood to build furniture. The top on my nightstand is made out of a whole bunch of odd shaped scraps glued together then cut, sanded, and finished. Well actually the whole thing is made from recycled oak. It amazes people when I tell them what it used to be.
Here's a pic of the top.

This is a dresser from the 1800s I found in a garage and it had plywood nailed to the top of it for a work bench, It's a bad pic. sorry.

I lived with a guy for a few years back in my twenties.....him and his dad. His dad had turtles and while they were pretty darn cool......they.were.dirty~! Adams dad had to erm, be away from home for 90 days so we paid the rent and kept the apartment so he wouldn't be homeless when he got out.....I had the unfortunate luck of landing turtle duty. We also had a pet baby goose named Sugar. We taught that goose to fly, it was sweet~!

I (if you guys can't already tell) LOVE to take pictures. Digital is the best advancement to me~! When I had my ferrets I would get so disappointed to wait to get my film developed only to find 2 good pics, 18 pics or tail and 4 blurry ones~!!!

I especially love nature pictures. I have an album I've been meaning to scan and upload....I may just do that today. Here are a couple that I already have on the puter.

Wow, lots of variety of hobbies here! My nickname gives a clue to my main hobby. I craft 1/12 scale miniatures for dioramas and vignettes. I try to hand make most of the items so most of my projects are slow in the making, especially since I took up the hobby of 'vaping'. My current avatar is an adobe church entryway I made several years ago. Many of my pieces replicate fond memories from my past, others are just subjects that interest me. This is an old kitchen scene from the mid 1920's.

This is really interesting - such a wide range of hobbies and interests! :)
Speaking of old radios and tinkering/fixing things - I got this radio as a hand me down, trying to fix it! This is probably a bit beyond me, because I never learned vacuum tube theory, so troubleshooting it is... not going well ;)
Here is a pic of it - I hope to get some learning (I am open if anyone feels like offering advice!) in and get it back running - has been in the family since it was new.
