Husband and I had tried mall ecigs back in '09 to endure a drive to Disney World with our non-smoking friends. As you all know, they were pretty crummy.

Fast forward to this past July, another upcoming trip to The World, and my kids really harping on us for the smoking. At this point, it was really hard to think about quitting, as we were rolling our own and they were much better and cheaper than buying cigs. I began to research, lurked here a lot, and ended up buying a Halo G6 starter kit...I thought I'd just try it out, see if it might save me the trouble of stopping at smoking ports in WDW, maybe even sneak a hit or two at work?

I'm honestly not even sure how this happened, but I just never picked up another cigarette. Didn't want one, never "struggled" with a craving, and really enjoyed my Halo flavors.

On day two, the husband's smoke was irritating my throat, and I asked if he would mind not smoking in the same room as me. He was intrigued with this change in his militant-smoker wife, and within an hour, he was online looking at my setup as well as other options. Within two hours, we were at our local B&M so he could put his hands on some gear and "just check it out". Left that store with a couple of passthroughs and two bottles of juice.

He smoked the last two cigarettes he had rolled that night.
He gave away our 6 remaining bags of tobacco two weeks later.
Tossed every ashtray we had (and we had PLENTY) except for one--the nice glass one which now holds vodka for coil soaking. ;)

Five months in, and neither of us has had a smoke. BIL became curious, bought a few batteries, and has now found a new hobby. My father also bought a kit with every intention of continuing to smoke a few every day--yesterday, he went to buy two more batteries and more juice INSTEAD of another pack of smokes.

I only wish I'd done this sooner! :vapor:

It seems like 'word of mouth' is a critical thing for a lot of people.

I guess the technology has just arrived in the last ~2-3 years at a tipping point, where a decent proportion of people can quit if they're willing to throw in time or money (obviously some get lucky and don't need to use either, but I think it's fair to say for most it's still either fairly expensive or fairly fiddly).

I guess the next few years will eliminate a good part of the time / money requirement, and the 'word of mouth' thing will die out, except insofar as recommending specific brands / methods. You'll *really* have to be living in a cave to not see them.

:D

I had heard of electronic cigarettes but never seen one until I went on a family trip when I saw my cousin using an eGo. That was a just over a year ago and today is my 1-year anniversary of making the switch.

Honestly can't say why I didn't investigate them sooner than that, had given the nicotine gum a chance and it was effective... at least, for a little while. It didn't take more than a month or two for me to crack. I've managed to quit cold turkey a few times for longer periods (well over a year), but at least with me, it felt like the older I got, the harder it was to quit regardless of the methods. Vaping has been my savior in that regard.

About 4 years ago I picked up a kit from a gas station. I played with it a bit, but it just didn't do much for me. About 2 years ago a family member visited while on vacation. She had some sort of ego kit. I didn't pay that much attention, but my stepdaughter started smoking disposables after that. About 3 months ago my husband and I decided to try the disposables. They got me off cigs but were too expensive for the long-term.

The stepdaughter then purchased a kanger clearomizer kit, so I picked up one also. I got the same thing so we'd have an emergency go to person if something bad happened. Something bad has happened to both of us since those purchases and we've been able to swap out bits to keep us both vaping. The original visiting family member recently came for another visit forgetting her gear, so we were able to cobble together a working setup for her using bits from each of us.

I took something of a roundabout route, but I did eventually gain nonstinky status, so it's all good.

A friend of mine on Facebook was talking about how she quit smoking with an e-cig and I wanted to quit but just couldn't find anything that prevented me from being a beast. So I though I would give it a shot. It took me a few weeks to get some kid free time to visit the vape shop. It's been almost 4 weeks without an analog and I hardly even think about it!

2 things made me take so long:

1. A lifetime of panic attacks for which smoking was the coping mechanism. Having tried just about every form of treatment, with varying and sometimes unpleasant results, smoking was the one reliable thing that hung on in there with me. So I needed convincing that vaping could take over successfully. That has taken a lot of trial and error, hampered initially by the second issue .....

2. Equipment driving me nuts. I'm not the most mechanically minded person you will ever meet and I can accidentally blow things up with real ease. So several attempts with ecigs and refillable batteries made calamity Jane look sensible. I gave up trying a few times until a local B&M store walked me through loads of stuff and gave me something that didn't dump juice at regular intervals.

I just made 7 months without cigarettes which proves that anything is possible and I now have a good combination of juices and levels for good and bad days. I'm glad I have full-time work as its taken some investment to get this far but it really is worth it. The final thing though was this place because it helped hugely to get knowledge and see such positivity, it keeps me going so maybe that was the third, hidden thing that made me take so long: I just needed some backups that were more than just a spare battery ;0)
