First real mod was a MVP 3 30watt paired w/ a nautilus mini. Upgraded to rebuildable stuff for longevity and cost savings.

Started DIY juice 6moths or so prior to getting into mechs and rda's. It took that long for me to feel comfortable with knowing how and why to be safe with batts, wire, shorts, recharging, etc .

advice would you give someone who is new to vaping looking to upgrade.

Really depends on what you are vaping on now, and what experience you are seeking to move to.

A pair of Kanger VV 650mah pens with T3D tanks worked to get me off of a 40+ year habit. But quickly tired of continually charging a battery, so picked up a 900mah pen. Soon tiring of continually filling those little tanks, discovered the Kanger Aero Tank Mega. Worked well, but that big tank on a little pen looked like &^%$ and was horribly top heavy. That led me to my first mod, an MVP 2.0. Surely that was all I should ever need, right?

But then came the sub tanks. Really wanted one of those big Kanger Sub Tanks, but wasn't sure my little MVP would fire the coil in that tank. So I made my first venture into a mod using 18650 batteries......a Clouper ZNA 50. But my now, the realization had set in. New gear was coming out right and left. As soon as I picked up one tank or mod, the next best thing was soon to be released. And I got bit by that bug and could I fight off the effects? NOPE! After all, one must acquire back-ups and we all know one cannot have too many back-ups.

When the ZNA started having problems, my shop let me exchange it for an IPV Mini 2 that I still use to this day......along with:
Sigelei 100+
IPV D2
Lavabox DNA 200
Sigelei 213
Fuchai 213
IPV 400
Smok Alien
And my latest, a Smok G-Priv 220

About half was down that list I thought I was well stocked and done upgrading. But with the uncertainties surrounding the industry, I just had to make sure I was covered should things go way south. Or maybe it was just the ongoing effects of that $^%@ bug bite from a couple years ago? Either way, it has sure been a fun ride! :D:vapor:

First mod was a smoke 151 cigalike. didn't help me quit. few years later I duged deep and bought a vaporfi rocket. didn't know they were a rip off at the time. finally stopped smoking. when the battery on the rocket went out. I picked up a provari radius. now I have so many different mods I don't even touch the provari anymore. writing this reminds me I need to dig out my provari haha

I started vaping 3 years ago ... Just like so many others here .... I started with an EGO 'twist' style battery mod. Then progressed to various tube style mechanical mods. Then to the iTaste MVP 2.0

Now I have 2 mods that I use all the time ... The eVic 'VTwo Mini' and the Smoant 'Knight V2'. I only use both these mods in the VW power mode. I am not into temp control.

I just use the Kayfun Lite-Plus V2 atomizers (kinda old school, but I like them). :)

Cig-a-likes, then Ego Batts & C4 Tanks, then an Innokin SVD & Kanger Protank II's, Aerotanks, etc. etc. etc.
Then that fateful day buying a Shenxi Panzer Mech & a Fogger v4.1 and saying to Hail with it diving in head-first into Building.
Then the Monkey went Kah-RAYZE and the Party really got started.
After countless Devices and compulsions later, still diggin' it and vape-crazier than ever :D

What was your first Mod and what Mod did you upgrade too. what made you upgrade and why did chose to upgrade to that mod. advice would you give someone who is new to vaping looking to upgrade.
My first mod was a mechanical Silver Bullet about five years ago. I had quit smoking with some ciga-likes, but after just 3 - 4 weeks I knew I needed a mod for longer battery life (18650 batteries) and more options for juice delivery devices. The Silver Bullet was a well-known mod by a trusted manufacturer (AltSmoke). I chose cartotanks for the juice delivery device.

I had read a lot about the Provari from Provape. Variable voltage mods were not that common at the time and I wasn't convinced that variable voltage had much benefits --- until I tried one. The difference was night and day. I purchased my first Provari about two months after my SB.

That Provari became my every day vaping device for about three years. When I learned how to rebuild my own coils for RBA's and to sub-ohm, the Provari took a back seat due to its lack of power. The Silver Bullet came back into its own. I've had about a dozen different mods since the beginning (being somewhat of a collector for a while), but these two have been my mainstays.

Both are American made (important to me due to quality). Both manufacturers would repair/replace the mod should it fail (never happened). Both are extremely durable, always work, and are very aesthetic to my tastes. AltSmoke stopped making the Silver Bullet this year; Provape will be discontinuing the Provari 2.5 when the current supply runs out. Double sad face. :(:(

Ego T with a CE4! Then a Twist. Then Innokin VV V3s (that I still use! ) with Protank minis, then an Innokin SVD that would randomly turn off (the only issue I ever had with an Innokin product), then the MVP v1 (still use!), then a SvoëMesto Semovar that I bought from another lovely ECF member (still use!), then two Provari Minis (still use!) with Nautilus Minis and Kayfuns, then eLeaf iSticks, then Picos, and now waiting for my eVic mini, and a Presa. I still use everything but the Egos and the SVD! I'm not into sub-ohming or MtL, so don't need HULK-SMASH beast mods and attys, and just tootle on with my happy little garden of amiable lady-mods.

Today I got frisky and put the extension end cap from my cherry red Provari onto my bronze green Provari and vice versa, so it's looking pretty festive around here, and there's just no telling what I might do next. ;)

As you can see, what a person started with depends on when they started. So what I started out with doesn't really mean much in today's world.

However when I started, the FDA was involved in a lawsuit, Customs was seizing shipments, and the end of vaping was looming over our heads. (not much has changed over the years)

So I considered it prudent to at the very least learn how to become "self reliant". That meant learning how to make my own mods, atomizers, and liquids. I'm sure glad others felt the same way, and over time even brought their ideas to market.

My first real "upgrade" was a Mako Midi & a 510 dripping atomizer. (I still have & use that mechanical mod)
My arsenal today is pretty simplistic, a bunch of mechanical mods & Provari V1s & V2s. Some carto tanks and RDAs. AND, I have enough to last well past my lifetime.

I had tried Blu.... that didnt take at all gave up for about a year, then i tried what was supposed to be better and it was it got me off of smoking, had Ego batteries and the simple tanks that you see for sale by most starters, ive always had bottom feed wicking/tank/coil/attys. From there i knew i needed more power so i got a vv/vw smok "mod" had an 18650 inside but was not interchangable, moved on to an iclear30b.

From there moved to a few different versions of the vamo and got the kayfun v4, after that got a single 18650 Dovpo mod, upgraded tanks a few times from the steamcrave aromamizer to the diablo too many to remember. Moved onto dual 18650 mods due to battery life and consistent vape production and more power obviously.

Currently using the Smok R200TC and a Griffin 25.... If i could have i would have started here, unfortunately the Griffin did not exist then. Easiest tank to wick keep wick wet, fill up, and build coils on that has great air flow control. The dual 18650 mods are all regulated and dont notice any real difference. For me it is all about the build of my coil and wick the mod just needs to supply enough power consistently to power it properly. The mod for me just needs to be able to change wattage based on the flavor in the tank, some flavors taste better a bit warmer some a bit cooler some just right, i have my goldie locks wattage on most the time sometimes i lower it a few watts

Started with Mistic ecigs then moved to a Roughstack mech with 510 cartos for about a year. Then Reo's and Dna40's. After trying TC for a while, I've finally settled on simplicity rather than flashy screens.

Currently use a Tesla Invader 3 with Kanger Subtank mini rba at .5 ohms. I start off low power and turn the dial until I get the vape/vapor I want. Change batteries every 3 days or so.

I started with a simple Ego battery and a pro tank atty, changed to using a VV Vision spinner battery (like an Ego "twist") when they came out. Next came a Kayfun RTA and an Astro mech mod, changing over to RBAs and mods that use swappable batteries was the best change(s) I've made. Eventually found the Kato box mod (my favorite mech) and have tried many different atomizers over the years. Once regulated mods offered adequate power and became small enough I switched to using them. Currently use a VT75 Nano but still prefer an old school Magma RDA (V1) over newer attys. My journey isn't over and likely never will be, as long as the tech continues to improve and remains available to me I'll continue to evolve. Just pre-ordered a CoilArt Mage RDTA, we'll see how it stacks up against my tried and true Magma.

I was lucky enough to find ECF before I spent any money.:D My first forum post was suggestions-about-hardware-for-someone-with-hand-problems and I got a lot of good advice and started with 2 Innokin VV v3s and a Kanger Unitank. From there I went to MVPs 2 and 3, and Protanks and Evods - after discovering that tank cracker liquids weren't all obvious:oops: and that I did not like top wicking clearos.

The MVPs ended up having hard to push buttons and being too heavy for my wonky hands, so I tried an Istick when they first came out. But the power control on those early ones ended up not working well at low wattage.:grr: At the same time I got a full sized Nautilus, but didn't like that as well as the Anyvape Davides I'd found that had pretty much replaced the Protanks and Evods. I also won an Innokin Disrupter, which had an easy to push button, but was too heavy again.

By this time I was a confirmed tootle-puffer, even though the term wasn't much in use yet. I hadn't found anything I liked better than the VV v3 and the Davide, and except for the Nautilus I never enjoyed anything over 7 watts or under 1.5 ohms. With the Nautilus I went all the way up  to 10 or 11 watts.

So you could say I've downgraded my mods and my toppers. My vapocalypse plan is to stock up on nicotine for my DIY, buy every VV v3 and Davide I can find, and to stock up on Kanger BCC and Nautilus coils. I was also gifted a Vamo v2 so I do now have a replaceable battery mod, and a Kuro coiling jig so I can see if I can make coils if I have to.

Evods and t3s > mvp 2 and protank 2 > sigelei 100w+ and lemo drop.

After that, a ton of drippers and mechs followed by quite a few regulated mods and RTAs.

    ...and more drippers.
    ...and more mechs.
    ...and more RTAs.
    ...and more regulated mods.

I've spent way too much and am looking to pick up yet another mod. Smh [emoji17]

I've only spent a couple hundred on hardware this year though so it's not terrible.
