What would be the top 2 or 3 units straight off the shelf?

Once I have that science down is when I will jump into the rebuildables and other such hardware sciences.

Since you've said this, I would want to say that the MVP 20W won't be enough long term.
It's an excellent device, I have one myself, but it's been shelved since I prefer other aspects of vaping. I like my hot, dense clouds.

I'm assuming what you said to mean you'll eventually explore rebuilding RTA/RBA's, and while 20-30W will be huge difference from what you're using, it really pales in comparison to what some of the other devices are capable of.

At the minimum, I would look for a 40W capable box (DNA40 is a wonderful chip), but preferably 100W+ (Sigelei and IPV come to mind) if cost is no issue.
It'll allow you to use any topper you can get at your disposal, from cartridge-based tanks to rebuildables at sub-ohm coiling.
You can experiment upwards until you find something you're comfortable with without having to keep buying new devices.
Toppers are another story, but once you find a style you like all the buying dies down a bit.

One drawback is most boxes use replaceable and rechargeable 18650 (sometimes other) batteries, but generally last long enough that you don't need to carry a bunch around all day. Another is the shape. Some love it, some hate it. But it has its advantages.
There are a few high powered mods out there that have encased rechargeable batteries, and a few tube-style, but the tubes generally lack in battery life.

Someone recommend the Kanger Subtank, which I think is right up your alley. You can replace the stock coils as they burn out while using the second deck to practice building when the time comes. If you don't like building, stick with the stock coils.
The Atlantis is another highly recommended tank, and you can rebuild the coils. That being said, you need to build on the existing stock coils, which can be a lot more tedious than working with a whole building deck like the Kanger offers.

Ultimately, it's up to you. Anything you do that's not smoking is good in my book.
Congrats on the resolution, by the way!

I've seen videos on the IPV mini and atlantis combo, all of the videos show the mini being used at 30w and those vape clouds are a little bigger than i would think i would want on a regular basis....say I'm driving down the road and don't want two puffs to fill my car to dangerous visually impairing levels, can that device be used at a lower wattage successfully? Or, is it meant to be used at 30w and i would just need to use a lower air flow and take shorter drags? Just curious about the options this combo would offer me.

Brushy,

I dont intend to take a baby step, thats why I asked for the top few options. Price is not a huge concern I just have other parts of this hobby/ smoking cessation project that I am focusing on and would like the best experience with the knowledge I have now. I agree this can get expensive and I am trying to avoid having 13 mods and 11 tanks laying around that I used to decide I needed the X/Y setup....great advice.

I've skipped ahead a page, so this may have already been asked: Do you know how you like to vape? Cooler? Warmer? What are the most important things to you? Do you rebuild now?

Personally, I like plug and play, as in my signature.

I am not sure on the temp of the vape yet, i get such random results from my current set up.

I do not rebuild, if I get deep enough into the hobby I am sure I will eventually, but who knows, for now I am just looking for a better more consistant easy to use option.

Imortant things right now are consistant performance for testing new juice flavors, ample vapor production to keep me off the analogs, ease of use, not in that order per say.

There are lots of us that have been at this for a while, and have discovered that what we want for play, and what is a sustainable vape can be very different things.
To start with you do not need 'killer-watts in order to get a good vape. Sure I have plenty of stuff that I can vape at 100+ watts, and use up a days worth of juice in an hour, but I also have stuff that gives just as satisfying a vape at 7-10 watts.

So the best equipment is controlled by what you want, not by wattage. These days it seems like there are more PVs out there that can't be set low enough than there are that can't be set high enough.
I'm convinced that the best PV ever made is "more than one". Just because I like a good sub ohm setup doesn't mean that I can't also enjoy an old school carto tank as well.

I can get just as satisfying a vape from both.

Get a 30 and a tank, Nautilus, Melo, Kanger sub, Kanger T3S, whatever. This is much more suitable for drivin and around town, work, etc. and will last all day and then some. It will power anything you put on it. I use cheap 510 atomizers for testing juice. Most any new (or old) tank will get you vapor production you desire and with the 30 just dial in how much you want.
There is no tellin what gear you will end up with after experiencing vapin for a while, but I wouldn't spend a lot to get what somebody else has ended up with. Everybody is different. Tellin you to skip over this and that and go here is like tellin you to skip over your life and do this. There are no top 2 or 3 units. :)

There is an easy and inexpensive way to try new juices without having to get into RDAs. It's how dripping first started. Here's my blog on the topic: Drip, Drip, Drip…

For ease of use and overall consistent performance (since you said you had a flexible budget): a ProVari Classic 2.5. The P3 just came out and being ProVari they are both good; however, for mid-range, everyday vaping MY opinion is that the 2.5 is better choice (I have both). Once you have consistent power, "ample" vapor production is more affected by the tank you use and the pg/vg ratio of your juice.

These wouldn't win a competition, but would it be enough clouds for you?

No matter what device(s) you narrow it down to, I strongly recommend browsing through the device specific sub-forums to see what current owners are posting about them. It will give you a good idea of what problems you might encounter and how to deal with them.

    THIS!!! Reo Mini.
Zero problems, except the initial cost, which pays for itself. Vaping on it > 1 with no issues. Hardest part? Filling the bottle. I'm pimping the crap out of this thing because 1 year later, I'm still in amazement of how well it functions. I use readyx wick and don't have to touch the thing for weeks.
