I feel bad for your roommate because I know how it feels to be a smoker and not be allowed to smoke. I think this is a great opportunity for you to help your friend try vaping. I think I would be considerate enough not to vape in front of him but I would definitely vape if the landlord said it was fine. Good luck to you and I look forward to a followup report here. :D

Maybe a compromise is available, like vaping in your room and when he's not there. Taking the issue to the landlord will likely end up with a no vaping rule, as that's the easiest solution for the landlord. I would look for another roommate as soon as you can. Good luck!

This would be my concern for you, if your roomie decided to pitch a hissy fit with the landlord.

Yeah i can understand that. I might try to edjucate him more, & see if he's willing to give it a try. But he's a very stubborn person. I mentioned it before and he said **** no. So i might still try, find a flavor maybe i notice he really likes, & see if he will try it.

Knowing him he'd do it to. I am keeping my vaping now to my room, outside, & while he's not here. Until maybe i can warm up the idea of him trying to vape. Idk we'll see what happens.

If your landlord tell's you smoking is not allowed in the house, but you ask about vaping, & they say it's perfectly fine, & your room mate feels it's unfair, & says you can't vape in the house if he can't smoke. What would you do?

First off if I was an x smoker, now vaping to stay away from cigarettes, I wouldn't live with someone that smoked. If I already lived with that person before I started vaping to get off cigarettes I'd find a new roommate or move or ask them to move or for them to start vaping and stop smoking.

The one thing I've found since dropping cigs and started vaping is I can't stand the smell of cigarettes or the people that smoke them.

It's simple. Vaping is not smoking. They are two TOTALLY different thing. With smoking you are starting a FIRE every time you light up, IE FIRE Hazard. Vaping it heating a liquid until it turns to steam, IE a Vapor.

Well he's saying if i vape in the house, he has the right to smoke. That it's "Only Fair" to everyone in the house. And i don't want him to break our lease because the no smoking thing is very strict to them.
Your roommate is an idiot. As a university - level logic instructor I have the authority to render such judgments.

Just have your roomie read this thread! That might take some pressure off of you...

Maybe it's time your roommate learned life isn't always fair. Tell him to put on his big boy pants and deal with a dose of life and not to worry, he'll still get his participation trophy in the end.

Also, get it in writing HE is responsible for any damage fees assessed for smoking tobacco in the apartment.

How old is your roommate? Sounds pretty immature to me. I'd start looking for another roomie. Even if he thinks that vapor is just as bad for someone as second hand smoke, there's still a huge difference in the time it takes to dissipate, and the smell. He's got to know that. If the landlord lives there, or there are other tenants in the building, smoke would bother a great deal more people then vapor would. There's not really a way for anyone else in the building to know if someone is vaping indoors. The smell gives smoking away quite easily. If there isn't anyone else in the building, there's also the fact that smoke discolors the paint on the walls.

This is all great advice! Last night we all sat down and talked. He's kind of easing up on it now. He's not 100%. So far the vaping in my room, & when he's not here is the one that's sticking right now. He is pretty immature, but if you nag him constantly, he starts to get tired of it, & give in. It took us 5 months, constant nagging, to finally get him to train his dog not to pee, or rip up our clothing. I think in time, and patience i might get him to be 100% OK with me vaping inside. He's just one of those kids who had everything in his life, and expects it to be the same as an adult. Yeah, he really needs to understand that life is not fair.
