I am a landlord, and there is not any smoking allowed in any of my properties.
It's a no-brainer, as smoke causes damage that costs a lot of money to deal with.

But living in California, I can't even believe there is something to discuss here.
I grew up knowing that smoking in your house was a horrible thing to do.

Again, it's a freaking no-brainer.

But yeah, your roommate is a ..........
And if this doesn't make him start vaping, then he is an even bigger ..........

But do NOT tell him to take it to the landlord.
That is a great way to get vaping included in the lease agreement.

As a landlord myself, it is always nice to avoid hassles.
But as a vaper, I would never tolerate this ......... and his issues.

Again, maybe you should just hire me, and I'll get it taken care of.
:)

This is all great advice! Last night we all sat down and talked. He's kind of easing up on it now. He's not 100%. So far the vaping in my room, & when he's not here is the one that's sticking right now. He is pretty immature, but if you nag him constantly, he starts to get tired of it, & give in. It took us 5 months, constant nagging, to finally get him to train his dog not to pee, or rip up our clothing. I think in time, and patience i might get him to be 100% OK with me vaping inside. He's just one of those kids who had everything in his life, and expects it to be the same as an adult. Yeah, he really needs to understand that life is not fair.

This sounds like a reasonable compromise :) I do think the idea of having a disposable or ego set up around that he can use in lieu of going out in foul weather might help bring him around.

Well, if it was me, I'd wait until I caught him smoking the stinkies inside the home and then I'd hand him/her the 30 day eviction notice that I would have already had drawn up. At 30 days if the person didn't move out, then I'd have the locksmith on my speed dial and put in the order to have all the locks changed. If the person then broke into the home/apartment I'd have the police arrest him for breaking and entering and anything else I might be able to legally come up with. The above assumes that you wish to stay in the location, sometimes it's simpler to just give your own 30 day notice to the landlords, tell them you are moving on, but the other person or persons will be staying and that you are no longer responsible for the rent etc and just move out yourself. Your choice really.

The simple fact is that the owners of the building do not allow cigarette smoking inside of the building. If the person doesn't want to abide by that, then he needs to simply go find some place else to live and or move over to vaping inside and smoking when he's away from the property.

I hate to say it, because obviously I don't know the person but from what the OP has stated... It sounds to me like the person is immature, I mean come on, because you're allowed to vape this other person should be allowed to smoke? That seems to me to be the thought process of an immature person who's brain has either not yet fully developed to adulthood or just somebody being a ..... about the situation. If the person can't see that vaping is a pretty clean situation and "smoking" produces some of the worst odors what with the way many of us used to leave full ashtrays all over the house, as well as the possibility to burn holes in our clothes, or the landlords carpets, etc then maybe it's just time to find a new room mate anyway.

LOL!!! Your welcome XDD!!! If i had the money, i'd pay ya haha!
Well, I quoted you $100/hour but I can probably get the job done in about 20 minutes.
And I would of course prorate that, especially for a fellow vaper.

Unfortunately, it's the expenses that would add up.
Like plane tickets.

And of course the fact that I would have to eat dinner here...

They don't even list prices on their online menu, so yeah.

He can be a douche, & he can be a really nice person. It really boils down to his immaturity to certain things he deems unfair, for instance vaping, or training his dog. Our other room mate to be honest, is far worse then him, in a lot of aspects accept for maturity. We would get a new room mate if we had a friend who was willing to move in, but as it stands all of our friends have homes, & families they don't want to leave. Which is very understandable, & i completely get it.

Knowing him he'd do it to. I am keeping my vaping now to my room, outside, & while he's not here. Until maybe i can warm up the idea of him trying to vape. Idk we'll see what happens.
I think that is very considerate of you considering how crappy he is being about the situation :) It sucks he does not go with the flow :) I feel bad for you having to live with him, because I am sure he acts bad about many things. So, hang in there and I am sure it will work itself out!

Yay! It looks like it is starting to work out! It sucks you have to go through all of this though...,, just to get him to accept the real fact that he did not get what he wanted. I hope it continues to get better! Maybe he will start vaping with you :)

As a dual user myself, I don't get why the roommate wouldn't take advantage of the vape indoors all you want and smoke outside (as is the norm everywhere) when one wants to smoke.

As one who isn't an ex-smoker and can relate to society's stupidity toward smokers, I'd really be interested in talking with someone like this to see why they wouldn't vape part time.

Yeah i don't understand it either. Really he should see it as an opportunity to better his health. Then again he will not drink water. He only drinks Code Red Mountain Dew... Like no joke.. This dude NEVER drinks water. Honestly i could get him a mod, & stick freakin code red mountain dew e-liquid in it, & i bet he'd go for it!

Just wow. His mentality is sooo spoiled, immature and flawed.

He signed a lease that contains a "no smoking clause"

OP you have not said that he has acutally smoked in the house. He is only saying that vaping is bad because he is jealous that you quit smoking.
Personally? I would not be bullied.
If he does smoke in the house get a picture and tell the landlord. You cannot evict him since he is on the lease. Only the landlord can do that.

I understand not being confrontational but sometimes in life it is required. Your a big girl now. Do not let some idiot walk all over you. The reality is that people who stand up for themselves are typically not bullied or messed with.
Standing up for yourself does not always mean a screaming argument. It could simply be that you say "this is what I am going to do" in a calm voice.
No need to debate as it is a statement not a question.
Then just walk away.
