I think you did what you could and should be proud of that. What the shop is doing is downright dangerous.

I wouldn't dream of making a coil under 1.4 Ω because I know my limits. Others are more confident--but under 0.1 Ω is simply insane.

It's crazy right? Well, theres a fine line between confidence and stupidity when it comes to dropping below even 0.14Ω.

Unless of course someone who is standing nearby gets hurt as well. As far as "natural selection", I would be willing to bet you would feel differently if it was a family member or friend, regardless of what foolish activity they are doing.

Particularly since the uneducated go to the supposedly educated for information--and this place is giving out terrible information.

That's not the consumer's fault.

However, any mishaps are likely to result in a huge lawsuit, which should Darwin Award the business right out of existence. For that I feel no pity at all...!

we have three B&M's near me, The first one I have ever been into, was before doing research into places. I didn't know the difference between MODs, clones, clearomizers, drip tips, batteries, etc..

First place was ok selling some name brands, KangerTech, Sigelei and aspire. And trying to pass the rest off as authentic, using the authentic names and calling it that. Like an Evod Twist, Ego batteries for a lot of their starter set-ups.. They also sold only their juice. I didn't see one bottle of other juicemakers stuff anywhere.8-o

Then I found a more reputable place and this awesome forum.
I am getting a better understanding for things, especially for what not to buy and who not to let build or try to sell me something I really didn't want in to first place.
After some research, I found out how to tell if your getting the real deal.

Second place I visited had slightly higher priced things and I ask why. Their response was these are authentic models, store xyz sells clones. Also, second place was more helpful in answering my questions without sounding like they were searching for the answers. They also sell over 70 different juices from various makers.

Third place was in between. More of a starter type of store. Catering to those looking to give up analogs and not getting too much into the hobby of cloud chasing.

I have to say to Cullin, I may have been one of those people, like the customer you were talking about, that went in and was unaware of the dangers of battery safety. And sub ohming is one thing if common sense is used.

Almost everywhere I have seen online they warn you, NOT to go below 1 ohm. All APV's I have seen won't work if you go below 1.2 ohms.

So, knowing what I know about this I would have done the same thing.
I learned Ohm's law years ago, but have forgotten most of what I learned about electronics. So, until I am up to speed on the information needed, I am gonna just stick to my Nautilus and changing the coils when needed. Builds will come later.

What kills me is that these new vapers take what people behind the counter say as gospel and there is no way that another customer could be speaking truth.

You should see what exotic fish keeping is all about. I once overheard a customer getting bad advice and being sold on useless products. He mentioned he'd already spent upwards of $12,000 and was tired of losing fish. I pulled him aside, explained he didn't want those products or any new fish right now. I explained fish less cycling and how to maintain his plants so cycling wasn't necessary.

He walked out with 3 workers carrying bags of soon to die fish and more products than the first guy tried to sell him. Only thing he did that I recommended was bought the dechlorinator I suggested.

I say idiot store owner. It's really his or her fault.

Exactly.

One employee thanking the other for making him a .0x ohm build in a shop full of .0x ohm builds suggests the owner is a neglectful person who's only in it for the cash and cares not to know better or worse... condones it anyway.

My father used to have some 200+ gallon saltwater fishtanks in which he would try to find as rare of fish as he could find. It was an incredibly expensive hobby and my goodness were salesman trying to push whatever their could onto their customers. I hear ya.

.07? Are you kidding? I really don't know how to react to that!

Not kidding at all and everyone in the shop was below 0.07Ω! I was seriously watching everyone while they were taking a hit to look for any signs of venting so I could haul ... outta there!

The guy really was vaping with a towel for insulation to protect his hand when it vented? Or because the batteries were so hot! The bad thing is it probably did happen to him before and if it flames out catches the towel on fire and then the shop... Well you won't have to worry about those guys anymore.. And it will not look good on vaping.

The De Jay fella on YouTube was using the towel for heat and I'm sure it was the same for these guys. With those builds, there is no way their mods couldn't have been scorching. There was a build station in the shop and on the build station I saw this monster mech mod that had stacked 26650 batteries. They were building their most insane build yet on that thing, I'm pretty sure the stacked 26650's doubled the amperage but lord are they mistaken.

I'm not sure I understood what you meant by that, but just to clarify. When you stack batteries, you don't increase the continuous discharge limit. Two stacked 4V batteries rated at 30A will produce 8V, but still have a 30A limit. When you use batteries in parallel, the two batteries will produce 4V, but will be capable of 60A draw. However, for this to work correctly, the batteries have to be carefully matched. If one battery is weaker than the other, you can get reverse voltage across it which is very bad for the battery. The proper way of dealing with that is to add circuitry (diodes) to prevent the reverse voltage.

Note that when you stack two batteries, you quadruple the wattage.

I was at a friend's house this weekend, and a bunch of recently-converted vapers were there.. I gave them all a VERY thorough safety lesson (I showed them Steam Engine and looked at their batteries, letting them know the amp limits), as all of their builds were .1 ohm and lower, and NONE of them had any ideas about the dangers of battery venting. One told me hes been "vaping this build for months, and no problems", and as he was saying that I saw him reach for his mod, touch the button to fire it, and then take his hand off his mod and put it back on the table. Huh..?

"The button's hot."

At that point I stood up and said, "Hey, I don't wanna be here when one of your pipebomb deathtrap 15$ nemesis clones explodes," and went into another room. I left them in somber silence, on the precipice of a revelation.

Since then, two or three of them have moved to .4 ohm builds and are reporting a much more enjoyable vaping experience. The kid with the hot-button texted me and said, "Higher ohms fixed my hot button issue, thanks." and another friend texted me with a picture of a HUGE room-filling cloud on his newly-built .6 ohm coil (on a IPV3). I like to think I potentially saved some hands/lives.

Double.
Either amps double or volts double depending configuration.
If both doubled watts would quadruple. Since only one is doubled watts are only doubled.

I think you need some coffee, Beck :)

(2V)(2V)/R = 4V*V/R

ETA: That doesn't immediately agree with P = IV, if we assume the amperage is the same. But if we're talking stacked batts and each battery is experiencing the same amp draw, I think we do double the amperage, since the atomizer would be getting the same amp draw from each battery.

This is one reason I wouldn't stack on a mech, the electronics of two batteries is a little confusing.

Woah!!!! Massive typo, I mean to say 'I'm pretty sure they thought the stacked 26650's doubled the amperage but lord are they mistaken.' Wow that was a bad typo.

 ETA: Despite being wrong it still doesn't justify the 0.04 build they were working on.

I think we both need some coffee. Take a quick look at your equation. ;)

But yes. You're right. Doubling voltage with the same resistance would double current through the entire circuit thus quadrupling wattage.
