Actually, I'd recommend a pen-style for a noob over the 901. They are both workhorses, and while the 901 is smaller and easier to carry around, I think (based on my own experience) that the easier draw, longer cart life, and longer battery life of the pen give a smaller 'learning curve' and less initial frustration to the noob.

I agree with Walrus.
I'm still a newbie, basically, having only been vaping about 2-3 months and I've used 3 different types.
I bought the njoy Pro, not sure what model number this is but it looks like a 100 analog cig. The vape is pretty good, about the same as an analog, but it's expensive and the cartridges are expensive to buy filled and it's harder to fill the cartridges with liquid because the core is deep inside the mouthpiece.
The 901 is good but doesn't vape as much as my njoy. It's easier to fill but runs out faster.
The 801 pen style is a bit bigger but lasts longer, usually cheaper, and a good vape.

Just in case you needed to hear it again. The 901. The only reason that I would choose it over a pen style is because most people want something that resembles an analog...at least at first. I know the 901 isn't the closest thing out there to a cig, but it's a happy medium of size and ease of use. I think that once they get over the "is everybody staring at me factor" their ecig could look like a paper towel roll...but for a 1st timer I wouldn't suggest anything bigger than the 901 :)

God, the 801 is small enough. I love it. I would recommend them an 801 with manual switch.

$85 from USA vendor, free shipping (this is a hybrid 801/janty) http://www.ecigmall.com/ , $60 from china for what looks like a generic 801 + non-janty manual switch+passthrough, then add shipping

also some (2) DSE-801 batteries and (1) DSE-801 wall charger if they don't want the usb cord at all times. Your choice of vendor, +$15 bucks from china, add shipping. More in the USA because of price markup but low shipping cost/wait time.

have a super mini and a pen.

when my friends say " I want something just like a cigg", i let them barrow my super mini for a day ( 2-3 batts and 7-10 carts), then the next day i give them the pen ( just the assembled pen and 2ml of liquid). after trying both, they always go for the pen for its long batt life, ease to top off the cart, and easy draw.

I would advise getting the 510. You can get 2 complete e cigs right now for $49.99 plus $6.00 shipping. It has good battery life, and awesome throat hit. Only issue is the carts do leak a little. That's not a big issue, as leaking is very minimal. This is a good solid vaping device. I got my first 2 kits on 2/14, and they are still going strong. Check it out @ electronicstix.com Jason is great and ships fast. The 510 blows the 901 away.

while i am getting ready to add a penstyle to my personal collection (ive gotten used to the short battery life of a 901, but the larger cart of a penstyle would be nice), I would recommend a 901 to someone just starting out because the size isnt that much larger than a 100mm cigarette and because of the wide availability of parts and supplies.

Oh, and salex.. www DOT e-cigarette-mart DOT com is where I found a decent enough DES901 kit, $29.99 with free shipping. Seems about the best price out there.

Thank you, I will try the DSE901 next. I realize this thread is for recommendations - I posted my question in the wrong place -lol. I'm learning my way around the forum. I've read so much helpful information - I decided to order a penstyle. We'll see how it goes. So far, I prefer e cigarettes over tobacco (no stink). I just need a dependable device - I smoke a lot (school, work, kids = STRESS -lol). Hopefully the penstyle will work out. Thanks for your help and advice:D

Here's my two cents as a new e-smoker. I first bought an NPRO because it looked like a cigarette. However, I wasn't very pleased with it (hard draw/short cartridge life). I recently bought the classic penstyle from e smokey treats. The pen is far superior to the NPRO in my opinion. The batteries last longer, throat hit is better, easier draw, cartridges are easier to refill. At this point performance is more important to me than looks, especially since I am trying to stop smoking tobacco cigarettes - I really like the penstyle. I haven't had a real cig all day because the pen so far has been a comparable replacement.

I bought a m401 as a starter. Than jumped directly to the RN4062 ECigar. I like that my device resembles a cigar because I used to be a Cigar Smoker but the E-Cigar probably isn't standard enough to be a first device for 5 people.

I'd recommend the DSE-801 Penstyle. Forget little chambers and teeny weenie batteries. Get something that they'll be satisfied with.

Also if they are quitting smoking they are going to want serious vapor machines not the puny little m401 or it's equivalents.

Easy,

As much pure unadulterated love as I have for the 510 and the JS, I STILL have bought three J118/vx2 kits for friends. And the simple reason is, it's more than effective enough a replacement for smokes, the battery life is outstanding, and the automatic batteries doth not suck as much as others. It is the absolute perfect starter. Just today I donated all my remaining j118 parts to a co-worker. Will they eventually go my route and be manual button biased? Their choice. But I tell you this. If the J118 was the absolute only device on the market, I'd be using it and be happy. It's a very good product. I'm just preferring the JS and 510 now because of the magic button.
