Israfil, Many folks there would love to quit analogs cause... well, lotsa reasons. Now all we need is the money folks. Well, maybe a few more things? Vegas just hits me as a great idea.
Joe

I just ran into someone that just came back from vegas and said ppl where using e-cigs all over there..

First, you are not going to offset the shipping prices with a brick and mortar store because sales taxes will be added. Most websites offer free shipping after a certain dollar amount.

The example above shows the problem with a B&M store, $15 attys, $10 cartos. Convienence or not, people will have a hard time forking over that kind of money for items that are readily available and able to have in hand in 2-3 days.

The idea of a B&M store is awesome. The reality is, most people are too cheap to pay the inflated prices required to keep the store open. Plus, this is a small specialized item, its not like a regular store that sells bread and milk. If it was more widely accepted, and the costs could be kept competitive, then a B&M store might work. At the moment, with the economy in the crapper, people are looking for the most for their money and honestly, the internet is the way to go.

And lastly, who would want to pay 2-3 times more for a bottle of liquid that has just been sitting around when there are plenty of good, custom made liquids that are made fresh to order? Ask 10 different people which liquid should be offered at the B&M store and you will get 10 different answers. Do you really want to go back to DK liquid just because its being sold at the B&M store? Most likely not.

the thing is there are many that do not know about all the online stores.. say your last atty breaks.. or you run out of liquid.. it would be nice for the ppl that know about the online stores to still be able to run to that store and pay what would be cost of next day shipping but have it then...

also for the ppl that do not trust online stores or never thought about the ecig could run in and look at them.. when a person buys a device from a place they go back to that store a few more times to get parts if not until they quit..

when i break my heli i know i can get the parts online but it takes a few days.. if i want to fly it i go to a local store and pay double so that i can get it up and running.. if its not in stock then i go home and order it online

I am surprised that none of the local Cigar / Smokes shops haven't already picked up on this. They already have a facilities and it would bring in more shoppers

I have a friend who has a small share in a local cigar shop and is trying to get his major partners to sell vapor stuff. The problem is that most cigar shops want to cater to a certin client base. They arent sure it would look good in there cases next to upper price cigars. Also there afraid of the legal aspect of it. They also dont wat thousands of $ in stock and then be told they cant sell it. I guess they are takeing a wait and see approach to the ban. But they are interested!!

I surely would, provided it wasn`t too far away, as the price of gas would be a deterrent. I`ve even already called around. I`d like to look at all the new models out there, and I just can`t decide by just seeing them in a picture.

I think that you`d have to also have a DIY juice set up, so you could make orders on site. Have a few of the more popular ones on hand. You go in, buy a new unopened cart and are able to try different models, and sample juices. Maybe even a set price for juice sampling?

In the case of a ban, shoot I wouldn`t be one bit afraid of sitting on a couple thousand in inventory. Mass panic would allow you to double or triple your money.

The vaping community is fixing to explode IMO. The social aspect of Vapers having a place to interact, the possibility is absolutely there I believe. Location, as well as an online store are THE most important factors.

Where I live it`s close to 100 degrees today. I`m bored, I`d go right now to somewhere spend a few dollars on an overpriced soda, drop a few bucks to sample some juices, sit in some AC, meet and interact with fellow vapers, throw some darts, shoot pool, whatever. I think the possibilities are endless.

You could trade tips and tricks with other vapers, modders would tech talk, (have to have someplace to show off their latest creation=).

I wish there was one around me. I would definitely use it and the cost would probably be about the same with shipping. Even if a little higher I would do for convenience. I also agree, we almost need it to help it become acceptable and mainstream.

If the cost was the same as the item plus shipping, the store would make $0 and be out of business in a week. The price would have to rise to help pay for the electric bill, the rental of the store front or the mortgage, water bill etc etc. Not to mention paying a staff unless the owner planned on spending every waking moment at the store.

Most online sites offer FREE shipping if a certain dollar amount is reached so shipping costs become a moot point. What WILL have to be paid in addition to the item costs is taxes. So at the very least, the B&M store would cost more just from taxes alone.

The only way to make money and keep the doors open for a B&M store would be to:
#1 have a vaping lounge where drinks etc are served and only allow the vaping of the store brand liquid or
#2 add on to an existing store and hope that enough people are curious enough to come in and find it or
#3 have a web based store in addition to the B&M store and hope that the customers you have dont find out how cheap you are selling the items online vs the cost of the items in the store.

Other than that, convienence onlys plays a small role with people and for most, the bottom dollar is the factor. Most people are cheap by nature. Eveyone is looking for the best deal. You dont go out and buy a brand new car and brag to your friends about how much you overpaid, you always brag about the best deal you found. I seriously doubt anyone here would want to pay $70-$100 for a basic 510 ecig when they are readily available and can be in your hand in 2-3 days for $35.

""Would you be willing to pay a little more than you do online in order to have the convenience and support the store?""

Yes I would. Why I bought my overpaid kit from the mall. I didn't want to have to deal with it having something wrong and having to remail it and wait for a new one and so forth.. Although I did get ripped off by the price, glad I bought it there cause I was able to replace the first 3 atomizers that got or I ruined free and my Smart PCC case wasn't grabbing battery right 9 out of 10 tries so I was able to replace that too.. It would of taking forever through the mail to replace 4 items at different times and I would of said screw it and kept on smoking analogs..

I can't remember offhand what online suppliers it is, but they mentioned something about checking out your local tobacco shops and seeing if the were willing to carry ecig products from them.. That would be a great idea, even if its a couple dollars more.. WOuld save a lot by being to taste juices beforehand that is for sure..

and now days everyone wants to see what they are getting before they get it.. they are willing to pay the extra cash to have the item in their hands once they pay for it.. there is not that many ppl on this forum so it shows the small amount that buy online..

+100, Exactly!

Also, I have gone to my nearby store, and they even let me test-drive a flavor and ecig. If I was stuck to online shopping, I would need to buy spares and spares, and depend on the mail for repairs, if something happened to be within the warranty, and the mail waits can be long, when a weekend gets in the way.

muttsrt...I bet you buy your beer on line, too, huh...lol!
B&M stores must and will carry e-cigs. E-cigs need to be main stream to ever get traction in the US. On-line is cool, but the masses don't know about this yet. Believe it or not most people in the world do not live or die by the computer. The ECF forum is a small little world (although a great one!), with most of the people here being savvy to tech stuff IMO.

Mutt, I gotta agree with Skinny here. Lots of people would pay more for the convenience. Maybe you wouldn't, but this is a country where people buy frozen PBJ sandwiches, fercryinoutloud. We LOOOOVE convenience. And I believe online stores can work in tandem with brick and mortar. B&M attracts new customers... some are internet savvy and will defect to the internet, some will not.

I live in a town where many people don't even HAVE an internet connection. My BOSS doesn't even own a home computer! If ecigs are ever going to become KNOWN, let alone POPULAR in my area, it's going to be through B&M.

Is it a risk? YES! All business is! And I certainly understand a bit of reticence, considering our current economy. But to just sit on our collective hands and WAIT is ridiculous. Like I said before, if we want the public at large to know about ecigs, we've got to bring them to the table through B&M. It's the only way to get the mass exposure we so desperately need.

They sell beer online???????:D Sweet, but I dont drink beer, lemme know when i can get Jack Daniels online (and yes I shop around for the best deal between stores).

I agree that the e-cig needs to be more mainstream and widely accepted. If a B&M store was such a great business idea, they would already be popping up everywhere. That should speak volumes for if it is a good idea or not.

I like the idea of being able to run down to the corner store, picking up a 5 pack of cartos, maybe a new bottle of juice and coming back home and get right to vaping. But the truth is, no one store can carry all of the different styles, brands of ecigs to satisfy the masses and there is no way they can carry all of the different e-liquid out there. And there is no way they can price it to be cost effective for both the store and the customer. Most, like myself, already see mall kiosks as rip-offs as far as pricing, but the prices for a B&M store will be even higher.

Most of the people here now already have their PV of choice, so what they are looking at buying is replacemant parts and liquid. If you guys think a B&M store is going to let you open a new package and try it out before you buy it, thats just crazy...why would they do this? they could not sell it as new anymore and would have to drop the price to sell it. They might let you sample some liquid, but thats going to be few and far between as it costs money to give stuff away.

Like I said earlier, a vaping lounge-yes...add on to an existing store...maybe...opening up a B&M store just for ecigs and supplies, FAIL, regardless of if a couple of you would or would not support it.

And believe it or not, I am not so cheap that I go looking for the absolute lowest price on what I buy ecig wise. I have stated before in many threads who I use as far as vendors, and most times, their prices can be beat. But we are talking small change/few dollar difference. Not 2-3x the price. Customer service plays a huge role in who I buy from as well as price.

All of you wanting a B&M store, send me your contact info, I will buy a bunch of ecig kits, charge you 3 times the normal price, and eventually get enough to open up the B&M store you want to see so badly. The ecig brands will vary depending on what I decide to buy and you can just deal with it, because you will be supporting a future B&M store.

But I guess to be completely fair to the original question for this thread, IF there was a B&M store, I would support it, as long as I wasnt getting gouged on pricing.

Just adding a couple of points here:

1) I really like the idea of flea markets selling 510/901 or similar starter kits..and also help generating awareness. It could run in tandem within an online presence that offered bigger and better mods and larger selection of juices and such..that way the flea market/online biz wouldn't compete with each other and would be more cost effective than a full blown store. You'd just have to be consistent at being at the booth every weekend and folks would start to get curious and you'd build a following.

2) I don't think that tobacco shops are our best venue. Folks there are dedicated smokers...they go there because it's one of the last places you can still smoke indoors and find that social acceptance you're still looking for. An e-cig to a hard-core smoker is just like nicotine gum or a patch...that's how lot's of folks I talk to think of it. They comment..why would I do that...I'd just quit first. And if the store is selling high-dollar pipe tobacco or cigars they sure don't want that biz ruined with an e-cig...that would be the competition. I think our better biz mate would be a coffee shop like Starbucks or even a bookstore. Folks like to come in to both and sit and lounge..but the non-smoking bans have left smokers out of that ritual. E-cigs would bring those ex-customers back in the stores and add new revenue.

lol, tried it last week....got some interesting comments.....couple of people said "electronic cigarettes?....what do they do, smoke them for you?".....but I think you are right....overhead is only $15 a week, lots of foot traffic, just need to commit to giving up every weekend....
