What's the biggest mistake you made as a newbie vaper

I'm hoping that people will read this and learn a lot if there are enough contributors. So to get the ball rolling, I call this first one "Yes, I was once a dangerous idiot!"

When I was ready to graduate from my EVOD, I purchased a kayfun and a Cronus clone. I built the most beautiful coil you have ever seen. Wicked it with cotton. I was thinking "Man, this is so easy! I'm a freakin' super hero!". Put everything together and as I was about to screw the atty onto my mod, I looked at the center pin, which was a philips screw. I had read about adjustable center pins and it did look kind of recessed a bit, Sooooo. Yep. Adjusted it out about half a turn, put it all together and it got hot like a stick of dynamite! As I was racing to unscrew the mod before it blew up it scared me and was almost enough to turn me off of vaping. When I got it all apart again (after the smoke cleared...) I could see that the positive block on the deck had rotated around, touched the negative and pie-yow, direct short.

I learned that just because they happened to use a screw as the pin on a 510 connection, it doesn't mean you should touch it or look at it too much!

Next..!

The first time I tried to fill my brand new CE5 clearomizer, I studied it very carefully trying to figure out where to put the juice. I finally determined that the little hole in the positive pin was the most likely place to stick the needle tip into. So, I stuck the needle into the pin and squeezed away. Finally, it occurred to me that maybe the mouthpiece unscrewed.

I was sitting in my car doing this, it made a bit of a mess.

1. Avoiding rebuildables: rebuildables are hassle but not as much of a hassle as troubleshooting junky stock tanks/coils.

2. Budget Juices: wasted more $$ on crap juices that sit in a drawer. Would have been cheaper to just buy what I wanted in the first place. I'm sure in a year I'll be posting that avoiding DIY was one of my biggest mistakes. Sigh.

3. Avoiding mech mods: a $20 mech clone can provide an awesome vape.

In all honesty, not finding ECF sooner. Trying to research on the web, I kept running into ECF links but when I clicked on them it would bring up a wall of stickiest, banner ads for things that looked like pipe bombs, dire warnings (DIY sub forum), yellow calls to action and people speaking a language I didn’t understand. I wanted to quit smoking, not learn a foreign language and acquire a new skill set, so kept away. Life got a lot easier and happier once I gave ECF a try, learned a foreign language (okay, still working on that) and acquired a new skill set. Long live ECF. :toast:

Today was a pretty dumb day, and I've been at this awhile.

I'm a juice hoarder.
Sunday I decided to take inventory and got everything in one place, which included getting 10 or so bottles out of my work bag. I made them all pretty and organized and figured out which faves I needed to order more of.

On a disorganized Monday I ran out the door with seconds to catch my bus.
With a near embarrassingly large stock pile of juice fully accounted for...I left the house for an 11 hour work day with approximately a 1/2 ml in the reo bottle.

I bought a blu on lunch.

Lesson learned, backups for the backups are great...but you gotta have 'em on you

Lesson two, the juice and gear I've been hoarding are soooo worth it

Made my first coil for my Kayfun and it came out perfect. I was so proud of myself I decided to show my co-workers the next day by making a second one. The problem was, the second time I didn't screw the locking ring on my Nemesis. After some sparks, a puff of smoke, the smell of burnt skin, and a hurt pride; my co-workers assumptions were confirmed...I am a .....!
