What's the deal with this?

A friend I work with just recently got into vaping after I did. He's a 'act first and think Never' kind of guy. He's using a Smok Magneto (gold so he doesn't steal mine  ) and anyway he found some tutorial online or something and built a single coil build. I checked it with my meter and it turns out to be 1.02 ohms. So I was confused because he had it extended and I'm usually the guy who orders stuff for him and I remember giving him only one 18350 battery. Turns out he ordered more batteries and is stacking two efest IMR 18350 3.7v 800 mah, same as I'm using since like I said i generally order all his gear for him.

in my last thread there was some conversation about stacking 18350's and how dangerous it apparently is and whatever the case. Personally I won't bother I have 4 sick batteries coming in but long story short.. His amps are way out of whack. With that build and batteries it adds up to being 8.24A... And THAT being said the batteries he's using is only rated for 6.4A

Needless to say I passed on my knowledge that I learned here and told him how it could be very dangerous. Weird thing is... He's been vaping with stacked batteries beyond his amp capacity for awhile now apparently. Care to explain? :/ all the talk about it being next to opening the gates of hell and he's avidly vaping with not a care. Math doesn't add up... Yet no finger loss. I advised him against it anyway but I'm confused.. What's going onnn

1: Did you compensate for zero offset of your meter?

2:
assuming the internal resistance of the batteries is 0.2 ohms (3.7/6.4)
and ignoring the resistance of the mod itself
with a 1 ohm coil
current = 7.4/1.4 = 5.3 amps

power to coil = 5.3 x 5.3 x 1 = 28 watts

I like learning.

What do you mean about compensate zero?

Can you explain what the HECK ya just did there'?

What's the deal with attentionfishing non-descriptive thread titles?

OP, it's helpful to put general ideas into thread titles to save people time before looking at the thread. Some may not be able to help, and waste time looking at the thread. Other's using the search function may not be able to locate the thread. One way to resolve this in the future is to give a basic idea of the thread topic, for example this thread could be "Need help: Coil build accuracy and battery safety"

WattWick, it takes time for people to learn forum etiquette. He may have not used a topic specific forum before.

Thanks! I will. I'm not used to forums. I've only ever surfed forums for info and maybe signed up to one in the past.. Used it For like 2 days so yeah I'm definitely not familiar with how it all works. Still learning! Will adjust.

1:
Your dmm meter:
To check ohms, hold the two leads together and check the reading.
The resistance is 0 but the dmm will read something else like 0.15 or 0.58 or 2.41 or something like that; my own cheap dmm usually reads about 2 ohms by itself. That is the zero offset; when you measure the coil resistance, you need to subtract the zero offset.

2:
If the battery is rated at 6.4 amps, I do believe that basically means you won't get more than 6.4 amps out of it.
So when you thought it ought to be putting out 8.24 amps, you're ignoring the limits of the battery itself, which can be accounted for by the internal resistance of the battery itself.

The current draw for the case you were talking about is not 8.24 amps but more like 5.3 amps.

I highly doubt it'll fit unless the kick is 2mm thin. :p

More like 18mm.

But isn't the magneto a telescoping mod?

:offtopic:

I'm glad you said this cause you have another thread with a nondescript title as well you posted yesterday.
Msg of us who've been around forums for too long just interpret it as attention seeking headlines.
At least now you know not to do it any more.

:eek:ntopic:

As far as your friend there is only so much help you can give him. If nothing else you at least know you've tried.
He probably won't ever see battery safety as an issue since he's been stacking for a while.
I'm curious where he learned that from if he didn't get it from you.
