Direct or straight threw passthrough are considered 5 volt. They are not the best thing to be plugging into your computer USB since it will push the port to it's max limits. Some folks have had problems with there computers after using them for awhile. The best way to use them is running them off at least a 2amp usb adapter or powered USB hub. The directs produce the most vapor if plugged into a properly amped USB port. Battery passthrough you vape off the battery all the USB cord does is charge the battery. They are considered 3.7 volt devices. batteries need to be changed out fairly often depending on how much it gets used. If made right they are fairly safe to use on a computer since they dont put a high amp strain on the USB port. But i still would Recommend using a Adapter that cost 10 bucks to run passthoughs instead of a high dollar computer.
