Good morning. Gutter Congratulations!!! That is a huge accomplishment. You should be proud. Perhaps you should go ahead and buy yourself that new bike to celebrate.

On the cello hunt, we got a call last night from a guy that we had called a week or two ago that deals out of his house and I believe is perhaps a luthier. Anyway he originally said he didn't have anything but then last night left a message that he had gotten one on a return from a student that quit and wants to know if we want to look at it. Of course my wife does simply because it's a lot less money. I'll keep an open mind and listen to it if we can get to try it before we go back to the store where we have the trial from so we can compare the two. I know my wife isn't really ready to settle on this one because of the price but it has outperformed twelve or thirteen other cellos that we have tried. I am prepared to go in saturday, try to haggle a little, and walk out with this one. I have to admit that I'm starting to get a little tired of the hunt and am ready to get this thing settled.

I didn't know if anyone heard about the new general nordic and classic that they are test marketing in the U.S. ? It sounds like they are going after the camel and marlboro snus business as the cans look more like the ones sold here and there will be only 15 portions per can. Anyway here's an article if anyone is interested.

oh crap - i almost forgot.

today is my one year smoke free anniversary.I might eat some chocolate!!!

Grats Gutter! <33333 I am only at 2.5 months, but I am done with the death sticks (hehe Star Wars FTW)

I am trying to find snus mini portions in my area, the reg snus is sometimes too much, and I would rather not waste any of it. Any idea where might sell it anyone? I have to buy small quantities, because of my very limited budget, so online is not an option.... I like minty, I have and am using Camel SNUS winterchill, but I want to try the General mint mini. Smoke shop or somewhere like that like a tobacco shop? Any input would rock!

Kitty, did you try the dealer locator on the generalsnus website? They should list the closest ones. It pays to call ahead though because the ones listed don't always have stock.

Axl the last fellow stunk. My wife is taking her tomorrow to try another. I honestly hope she doesn't like it. I like the sound of the one we are trying out but my wife wants something cheaper. I told her tonight that the one that this guy has seems too cheap. I could be wrong. It's happened at least once before.

Good morning. No sign of gutter last night? He must have gotten carried away on his bike ride. Nothing too exciting going on so far this morning. I hate to admit it but I'm just about caught up at work. Hopefully some new stuff will come in today. I know I could use the money with the impending cello purchase. I'm kind of past worrying about how much it is. At first I was a little shell shocked but it is what it is. I'm a little anxious to hear how the one she's going to try today will play.

Morning all. Axl, it was the APA, America Poolplayers Association, the largest pool association in the US. Everyone gets handicapped on skill level and from a 7 member team, 5 shoot every match. At nationals, the teams that won on a regional basis end up playing for the championship and something like $25,000. There were 325 teams competing in Las Vegas and I assumed we'd play a couple matches and have three days to see the city and play some poker. They pay for your transportation and rooms plus you get around a hundred bucks for getting there so it sounded like a great deal. That was until we kept winning. We finally lost on Monday morning at about 2AM and had to leave for the airport around 5PM so there wasn't much time for anything but pool. The matches gave you little time to even eat and ran late into the night and started fairly early in the morning so it was one busy four days. l quit playing a couple years after that experience because I got tired of the BS even at the regional level and I find un-handicapped poker much more satisfying. Either you're good enough or you're done early.

Incidentally, of the four teams that made it to the semi-finals and finals, three were disqualified and banned from the association for something like 10 years for cheating. A lot of people play below their skill level during the year, playing just well enough to win and qualify for nationals, then bring their game when needed. The national referees have the power to make a determination of skill via observation and can ban players at will. I think the year we went was a record for the number of teams disqualified.

Hitt, "I could be wrong. It's happened at least once before." that sounds like my gf. She was wrong once also. She thought she made a mistake. I never met someone like her that could always be right and still have everything end up in a mess (she's not reading this, is she,).

So, Roth, poker isn't a game of luck?? I'm sorry to be ignorant, it is just that I've never played the game.

What's the cello update hitt? Did you commit to the good one yet? I don't think a good parent EVER feels bad about doing too much for their kids. I think you are right to get the good one, even if it is expensive.

Getting permission to use properties for tracking is just loads of fun (sarcastic). I'm meeting with a city official next wednesday to get permission to basically walk around on City property. Isn't that kind of covered by the fact that I pay taxes??

I have been such a lazy .... this week. I have not gone running even once. I need to do that again so I don't have to get into shape all over again.

Not the way I play it! :2cool: Seriously though, your skill level seriously improves your odds of winning. It's a lot like trading stock from my perspective. If you understand the game and have patience and a game plan, you will be a winner in the long run.

That being said, last week I played a quarterly event where I got all my chips in with one card to come and a massive advantage about a 19-1 odds. He hit and I was done. One the other hand, on Monday we were down to the final 8 of 50 players and I was close to out. I put all my chips in and he had a better than 7-3 advantage but my 27% chance won that hand and I ended the night with the trophy and the money. I'll normally win 10% of the time against an average of over 50 reasonably skilled players. A few of the places I play have 50/50 raffles to build the payout. Those I don't come close to winning as often or even a fair amount of the time.

It's all about control and power. I won't even start on that subject. Yes I will, but just briefly. A number of years ago I purchased a shed/garage that, by ordinance, I was required to get a permit for. I checked their regulations and the shed would need to be placed behind my house. Now I have 5 acres but they're 125' x however many feet long it takes to get to 5 acres. The house was build sideways on the property 100 yards off the road. There was no room to put it behind the house so I would have needed a zoning variance which I wasn't going to even try.

I talked to my three closest neighbors and put it where it made sense, halfway up the driveway and nobody ever complained.

I have been such a lazy .... this week. I have not gone running even once. I need to do that again so I don't have to get into shape all over again.

Thanks for all the well wishes. As much as i love my old bikes, there's times where i just want to hop on and go without doing half an hour's worth of prep/maintenance so a new bike may be in my future.

Good to hear you are recovering firechick - i bet that first portion is gonna be a doozy...

Kitty - if those normal portions are too much for you, you could always do the cut and fold thing. As far as finding anything locally, like hitt said, the general website has a locator. you might also try some of the american snus' - alot of people like them just fine.I picked up some skoal snus and they have 2 or 3 different mints and the nic levels are probably fairly low in them.Might be worth checking out.

Hitt- have you guys looked into used or craigslist cellos? cellos and upright basses are both just ridiculously expensive and the resale tends to be terrible due to a small market.

Roth - can we work out some sort of percentage deal on the poker? you know, i'll send you some bread and you take a cut and send me back more bread? sounds like a win/win to me....
    :)

interestingly enough and completely off topic - i found a reproduction logo for the 1960 silvertone i've been restoring. It looks like the real thing and even fit in the original holes.gotta love it when a plan comes together...

Good morning. Gutter I did look at some stuff on craigslist but didn't see anything I really wanted to go look at. The guy I mentioned before that works from his home let my daughter bring home the cello he has for sale along with a top end coda bow. He is quite a bit cheaper than any of the others we have tried and honestly it sounds pretty darn good. We have it until Monday so when we go back to the strings store tomorrow we are going to take the one I like the best, the one she brought home yesterday and her 3/4 size to play along with one that they are holding for us that we liked last week. That way we can see what they would give us for trade in and get some final prices on the two there and play all three in the same room. I think if they were all pretty close that she would pick the one I like but honestly don't think she'll pick that one simply because of the price. I'm not going to force her into anything because she would probably feel guilty over the money spent and I don't want to add to her anxiety issues. I have to be ok with whatever she decides.

On a side note, I always forget that lilbrown.com sells general mini mints. I'm not sure what the shipping cost is but that might be another option for kitty.

Annoying day today! I was told at one point by my boss to not get paint on the PAINT LADDER, while I was scrubbing a ceiling for 3 hours. 1. I was scrubbing, not painting, hence the lack of paint brush or paint 2. it is a painting ladder...who cares if it gets paint on it??? Are the paint ladder committee people going to be stopping by to inspect it today?? Hitt, my work week has been one to rival yours this week!

THEN, as if I wasn't annoyed enough already, something else happened. I stopped at the Serta warehouse to ask if I could use the field behind their building for tracking. It is about 4-5 acres and is used for nothing. The plant manager or building manager or whoever (he looked kinda like Uncle Jesse from the Dukes of Hazzard) told me I could not use the field because I might damage some of the semi trailers parked next to it. Um....I'd like to think that even on a bad day I could avoid somehow walking in to the side of a parked semi trailer. Further, I think even if I were running really really fast, I would be unlikely to do much if any damage should I lose control and run into one. What a weird way to insult me.

Sorry you had a rough day Axl. The paint on the ladder thing is crazy. Also the guy worrying about the trailers is simply ridiculous. Did he even understand what you were talking about? I actually had a good day. I opened my check stub this morning and got a small raise. It's the first one in a few years. It wasn't very much but I do appreciate it and it made me feel good. I think I've pretty much peaked in salary for what I do. I would probably have to go back to college to get any further and honestly don't know if it would be worth it.
