what's your opinion of the Iclear16? why does mine offer a harsher vape compared to the vivi nova?

I tried the Innokin Iclear16 clearo, and I bought some extra heads too. The heads are packed individually in a sealed plastic bag, which is nice. It offers plenty of vapor, but I noticed that with the same juice, the iclear offers a harsher vape compared to my vivi nova. By "harsh" I mean it makes me want to cough more. It's definitely slightly more irritating to the throat.

Is it because of the dual coil, so I get 2x the nicotine/vape or is it due to some bad stuff in the wicks that needs cleaning?

BTW, speaking of cleaning, someone mentioned that the iclears can give off a bad taste right out of the box, due to the packaging, but I've never experienced this. In fact, the individual heads are sealed in what seems to be a air proof bag.

Should I soak them in alcohol or just boil them? Which method is better at removing factory chemicals?

thanks

After seven months of constant usage and experimentation with multiple Vivi Nova Minis and lately Iclear 30's, I've learned that a thorough initial cleaning completely eliminates all the poor wicking and lack of flavor (aka Break-In) problems commonly associated with using brand new silica and wire heads ala Vivi Nova, Iclear, Stardust or any other 'rebuildable' tank of this genre.

Do new tanks, wicks and coil assemblies really need be thoroughly cleaned before their first use? Yes, they do!
The first and most obvious reason being "You are not really gonna put that in your mouth without washing it, are you?'

All these so called 'New' items and their heads are contaminated with minute amounts of everything from manufacturing particles and fluid residue to what the factory worker has on his hands after the lunch he just ate or the bathroom break taken mere moments before he assembled your 'new' tank.

Further, if you try a new juice with a new Vivi Nova and/or head that you haven't vigorously flushed prior to first use, it's a 50-50 proposition whether or not you will like the new juice. Asking a subtle juice flavor to compete with imbedded manufacturing residue is not a fair contest.

How many times have we all read "The flavor was terrible at first but it got better after a tank or two."
It took that '...tank or two' to flush out the crud the factory left in your device. What's worse is you didn't wash it down the drain, you inhaled it.

The quick and 'dirty' method:
Simply rinse the heads and tank components under a faucet using the hottest water you can stand. Let them soak in hot water for a few minutes, then flush with running water. Then either let them dry or just shake out the excess moisture and put them into service.

The let's get serious method:
Rinse all parts is hot water. Then soak them in alcohol for 5-10 minutes. I gently agitate the parts a couple of times during the alcohol soak. I rinse by placing the heads and/or parts in a small bowl under slowly running HOT water. This rinses and again agitates them to insure the item's nooks and crannies are flushed clean and I don't lose parts down the drain. Shake out the excess moisture and put aside to dry.

I also found that cleaning before first use allows the wicks soak up juice faster, making them ready to vape within a few seconds after filling the tank.

thank you, that is excellent advice. i'll try hot water, i was just using RO water. Also, i've noticed the black mL lines get fainter if i soak in vodka, so now i just wash them w/ water and soak only the heads in vodka for an hour or so, followed by water soak for that or longer. thats for used to get taste out. i also found sucking thru the airway after soaking clears the wicks better, but i dont do that w/ new clearos

A few questions if you don't mind?

1. When you say hot water(at least for the initial rinse in the "let's get serious method"), are we talking boiling water out of a tea kettle, or at least a pot of water ran through my coffee machine?

2. When you say soak in alcohol are we talking cheap vodka or Everclear? I know a lot of people say Vodka has no flavor as it's a neutral spirit, but this just isn't entirely true. Everclear would be better no, considering it's super high alcohol content?

3. I take it I should clean the actual tanks before first use as well, just with hot but not boiling water maybe mixed with some Everclear(or vodka)?

I'm about to order these, pretty excited. Hoping they live up to the hype of all these new clearo's, my first experiences with them a little over a year ago was just awful, they leaked no matter how I babied them or what juice I used, they were the original Elite ones from Cigeasy. Want to get the most out of them though, both longevity and more importantly taste quality and health.

you can use everclear but how much is it? i have some old smirnoff and use less than an oz in a small ceramic coffee cup and soak the heads only, remove silicone caps first. then water soak. i've also tried putting a coffee cup w/ water in the microwave for less than a min, not super hot, then soak only the heads in that. With new heads especially, but the silicone parts are a concern if the water is too hot. i did 45 sec microwave. i've also tried some isopropyl on the coils to remove taste, followed by hot water soak. seemed to work.

dry burn after the wicks dry for an hour of so is great too every 3 or 4 tanks (1.6ml), just a 1 or 2 seconds at orange a couple times and the coils turn silver again. (must remove caps to see this) sometimes the wick blackens so i gently pull it to one side and wash. sometimes i have to use a little pick to open up the coils again if they get squished together. It's also a good idea to check the coil wrap on new clearos before using, i've separated some that were bunched up tight from the factory

Topic:

I got my first iClear16s in the mail this past Monday, and can't put them down. I love them! They're my main juice delivery device now. And this may sound strange, but, I got the 2.0 ohm heads with mine (they were the only ones available at the time, from my regular vendor), and I've been vaping them at 4.3v, and they are performing beautifully. Anything less, voltage wise, and the flavor just isn't as good. I'm using a Vision Spinner, mostly, if that makes any difference. And the reason I mentioned that is: They honest-to-God don't taste the same using my Twists, at the same voltage. Go figure. :?:

I haven't bought Everclear in maybe 14 years, so I'm not sure how much it is, but it used to be really cheap, it's the Creme de la Crap of hard alcohol tailor made to turn train station tenants blind for a few hours.

I actually passed on the iClears for now because I didn't buy the iTaste while I wait for the VV/VW one to come out, but I did get some Kanger Protanks. Is the process the same/similar for these pre-use as well?
