I felt kinda guilty so I asked him what he was smoking....then told him i was a ex-smoker and now I vape. He heard of a ecig before and I let him try mine. He liked it and i told him if he throws his pack of smokes away I will give him my 808 and pcc(good thing i alwasy keep 2 ecigs on me while im out)....He was so happy he whipped out his pack of smokes and tossed em. I told him where to get more ejuice and other stuff. He was so happy and left me with a "Thanx man....now I dont have to worry about the smell and ashes and stuff anymore".

This is a wonderful story! Thank you so much for doing this! You are such a sweetheart!

This is a perfect example of what I find so amazing about the e-cigarette community in general. I've seen more examples of kindness and generosity in here in the short time I've been a member than I've seen in the real world in years. It sure is refreshing. I love you all.

So how now that you vape, act towards smokers and their 2nd hand smoke?

I live with 2 smokers in the house and have several friends that smoke. Doesn't bother me a bit as long as they don't make fun of my vaping. I no longer hear "when are you going to quit that thing" lol. respect earns respect ;)

it actually took 6 mos before i even smelled a cigarette burning in the room. very weird. I did ask my neighbor to open a window one time when I was working on his laptop on my bed and he chain smoked about 6 cigs right next to me. the smell suddenly hit me! takes awhile :p

Actually I feel bad for people that are still smoking. They would be able to breathe better and feel better if they switched to vaping. Hopefully live longer.

Case in point: My son-out-law (even though he is a cop) wanted to start vaping. Well it was probably my daughter who wanted him to. So she had me order a starter kit for him.

I got the ultra V4L one. He is fussy so I figured this would cut down on the complaints. Well it has been 4 months and he hasn't vaped one yet.
He claims he is too stressed out to quit smoking.

Well if your stressed out now wait till my kid starts giving you heck for spending $160 on something you don't use. Heck I would take it off their hands for the. Free though!

It has been alomst 2 months for me with no smokes. I still like the smell walking past the door of places. I whiff it up LOL. If friends come over we sit out like we always did before and I whiff thier smoke too.
BUT I can not stand the smell of old left over stale smoke in a house , car or other place. I can't stand the ashtray smell. I am also amazed at how stinky I must have been when smelling a smoking person pass me by. I don't complain to anyone about it. I just stand amazed that I use to smell like that too and my hubby still kissed me.

kinkachoo,

Oh that bothered me so much. People could smell me, and knew that I smoked. Now I can tell a smoker real fast, while before I couldn't.

My daughter is a RN and a avid nonsmoker. She has 2 children and I know she was always worried I would smoke around them(which I never did).
Now I don't have to worry about getting the sniff test every time I babysit.:2cool:

What's odd is that years ago a bunch of us from all over the country created a quilt for performer Todd Rundgren as a birthday present.. I ended up making 8 squares because some of those who said they would do a square didn't, so I filled in the gaps.. The woman who decided upon this project was stunned because we talked on the phone tons of time and I had met her once at a concert, so she knew I was a chain smoker.. Well on the phone one night she asked me if I smoked or not while doing the squares because she never smelled anything, but other people's were so full of smoke that she would have to wash the squares, hang them out on a clothesline, and spray Lysol on them to get rid of the smoke smell.. Only thing we could figure out was that I smoked menthol lights and they were a cheap brand.. Odd...

This doesn't really apply but I figured I'd ask anyway :D

I have to go to Philia in September for afew days and will have to stay with friends.. The woman used to be a smoker but ended up quitting (not her idea)... The guy has always been against smoking and kept on saying that he was "allergic" to it even though before this he used to hang out with me and never had a problem with my smoking so he's just making up bull..

I was on the phone with him and told him that I am vaping and he started on me about it, and I tried to explain to him what vaping was and that there is no way it can cause him any trouble.. On top of this, they moved and live in an apartment complex so even if I wanted to, I can't go outside (the female now acts like she can't stand smoke and waves in front of her face when we've been outside and I've had an analog 5 feet away from her with the wind blowing the opposite direction)..

I am now a constant vapor-er and need to think up something to tell the both of them about vaping and how it is not "smoking" and that there is no second-hand smoke and that they can't even be effected to it, not to mention that they will probably both be waving their hands and claiming they smell it when we know they won't...

What the hell am I gonna do or say?? It's not like I can sleep in my car or afford to go to a hotel or motel...

Say to them exactly what you just said to us. If all else fails, vape in the bathroom. :)

My parents who hate smoking let me vape in the house. My Mom loves the smell of my Vanilla Custard.

This may sound bad but I can't help but pity them.I see someone doing something that seems to me to be easy to replace with vaping. This may not be true for that person but 99% of smokers don't get the info on pv's so yes it is pity for those that don't have the info or inner belief to try it just once.Vaping is not for everyone(who smokes) but everyone should try it once.Second hand smoke doesn't bother me much ,smell it more but doesn't freak me out like some.

I think some smokers lack the inner belief because they probably have tried and failed to quit many times that they convince themselves that they don't want to quit or will quit when they are ready. I know I was one of those people. I tried many times. Even quit for 13 months from June 2006 to July 2007. Stress led me back. I felt so ashamed and defeated that I pretty much decided I was going to be a smoker for the rest of my life. I started looking at the ecig in 2008, but I was afraid to fail again. Well after a very cold winter here in Florida, and going out to smoke in the cold, I decided to try the ecig so I could smoke inside. I hadn't really thought about quitting cigarettes, just maybe cutting down and not have to go out in the rain or cold weather to smoke. For 12 days that's what I did, smoked cigarettes outside and vaped inside. until one day I only vaped.

Great thoughts on why smokers may not try vaping. In ways I never tried snus, patches, and lots of stuff so it holds true my way some too.To hear smokers come up with so many reasons not to try something once is mind boggling. So much structure to a smokers world is what makes me pity them. Its like when you first start out dating try not to date anyone who only eats chicken, for vegatables it has to be brocolli nothing else will do and for dessert is has to be marzipan.

I'm going to have to try, but I know they won't understand any of it.. I attempted to tell him that it was only nicotine and VG, and that without the smoke that nicotine is as safe as cafine.. He essentially called me a liar about it, even though he had never heard of them.. He also went off on how there is no way that vaping VG could be healthy.. At this point I don't even want to go but I've got no choice..

There are just some people who are sooooooooooo anti everything that I am shocked that they don't live in a bubble...

Hi Angel, I would let him know that hes right! Vaping is not 100% safe. But compared to a analog it is 1000% safer then a analog. Also let him know that it is YOUR CHOICE to what you put in your body and that theres no way any of your exhaled vapor can harm him like a analogs 2nd hand smoke.

My brother is kinda the same way.He has been a off n on again smoker for 17yrs.He always had good willpower and would go cold turkey every time he quit. He would not smoke for years at a time then when things would get stressful he would start again. He can quit smoking with ease but i cant.

So when i started Vapping and was so excited i was off analogs. He would just tell me that vapping cant be safe for me and i should just quit all together. Well I cant...Im a serious nicotine addict and went from chain smoking a pack n a half a day to quitting in 3 days using a e-cig.I knew vaping was the right choice for me So I informed myself on all the pros n cons and all the things that go into eliquid and the effects of vapping. I printed out all of my findings and gave them to my brother. My brothers in the medical field and needless to say he found the reading very interesting. Now he understands what i do about vaping and no longer says anything to me about my vaping. Well he does ask me what flavor im vaping on today....lol.

But i had to battle him with the FACTS.We all know the Facts of smoking and 2nd hand smoke. Now we all have to share the FACTS about vapping with everyone.Only then can nonsmokers and even smokers understand why WE chose to vape.

Hi Mondo,

That's all it in a nutshell for sure... I just know for a fact that even with "facts" he doesn't care and he will probably go off on me even more since his girlfriend will want to vape...

Exactly!! I chain smoked since 1977.. With vaping I quit 100% for 6 months, and then afew months back got into smoking on and off, here and there with analogs and my hookah..

What gets me is that a sane anti-smoker would be happy if people switched to vaping, but with all the lies the FDA and pretty much everyone has filled people with, it's as if we are murdering everyone around them with vaping... I've even seen posts on this forum with people posting that nicotine is dangerous and that we all need to quit to save ourselves and everyone else in the world (but no one jumps up and complains about polution, exhaust, and smoke stacks)...

I'm just really tired of being considered a 2nd class citizen for vaping, or smoing, or not being in the top 1% tax bracket, and the like.. I'm not convinced VG/PG/PEG is not 100% safe.. We were told 20 years ago not to eat eggs since they were bad for us, and now they push them at us to eat.. *LOL*

AngeLsLuv, I think in your case, you need to respect the wishes of the people you'll be staying with (this means no sneaking vapes in the bathroom or in bed, either). It's only a few days, right? That's their home, and those are their wishes. I know it sucks, but you'll get through it - probably by spending a lot of time outside their home, and by coming into this forum for some moral support. :D

I had people like that when I smoked, and visiting them was something I dreaded and barely tolerated. All I could think about the entire time I visited those people was what I couldn't do because of them. It's kind of ironic that intolerant people make it so that all your interactions with them focus on the intolerance regardless of what else may be going on that would otherwise have been pleasurable. I was always very relieved when those visits were over.

I know.. I just think that it is friggin' crazy since vaping can not cause any harm to them.. I cannot "quit" my nicotine and won't for anyone, so I don't know what I will do.. If I could quit like it was nothing, I wouldn't be vaping or have smoked for 30+ years.. I have to go from Philia to somewhere in New Jersey with them and am tempted on making them ride in my car since they can't do anything about it if I am vaping in my car and not their car..

Just the thought of their waving their hands as if smoke is wafting at them is what is pissing me off..

Maybe these can help:

164 foods that contain glycerin

1156 foods that contain propylene glycol

If you let them know that the base ingredients of what you're vaping are both found in all of those foods, you can also let them know that if they use any of those foods when cooking (and many are ingredients for cooking), then the steam generated during the cooking process creates vapor just like your e-cigarette does, so they're vaping it already. :D

The only part they might have a legitimate problem with is the fact that you're vaping something that also contains nicotine. 8-o According to this site there is a small amount of nicotine in what you exhale, with e-cig users exhaling .01 mg of nicotine rather than the .1 mg of nicotine analog cigarette users exhale. This may or may not be considered a small enough amount that it's perfectly safe, but non-smokers will probably generally feel that it's a chemical that you are putting into their air that wouldn't be there if you weren't allowed to do it...

What you could do is get your nicotine from Snus or from a patch or gum or whatever (or go hard-core like me and stop using nicotine at all :headbang:) and then vape 0 nicotine while around those people after showing them the links above and (hopefully) getting their consent. :)

Thank You for posting this..

Seems as if there are those on this forum who seem to want to infiltrate and tell all of us that we are somehow killing ourselves with vaping.. If they don't like it for themselves fine but they shouldn't start spouting the evilness about it when in fact we are doing ourselves good by vaping as opposed to smoking..

There has been many studies done that show that nicotine is in fact as harmful to a person's body as caffeine.. So if if anyone wants to complain about nicotine, then they best not be drinking tea or coffee either *LOL*

Way to go (AGAIN!) Little Girl!!

Hey Angel, listen to this lady because she always gives great advice...always taking the high road and has about the best attitude in this forum on how best to co-exist as vapers in a non-smoking world. Well...maybe next to me, but Little Girl says it a lot nicer than me. lol

I started smoking in college in the 60's...smokers ruled, and couldn't care less about how it bothered other people. Smoked in department stores, supermarkets, restaurants (had many cigars after dinner), even Doctors' waiting rooms. Now the pendulum has swung completely the other way, and we are the banished (and partly rightfully so).

So now its a process of educating ourselves so we can then educate the un- or mis-informed. It will be a process of evolution, not revolution...and the high road is the best road to take. imo.

Keep doing what you're doing Little Girl!
