Hi curious here as to why the 510s are so highly suggested to new users.
I do agree, that it might be the one to try as a beginner to see if they actually will enjoy vaping, and it certainly is the way I went.

I knew immediately that I could be a solid, non-analog using person with vaping. Of course I also think that newbies are looking at the size of units and wanting something in the area of actual cigarette size; me too on that.

Once I got into Mods, I knew quality, longer battery life, and higher voltage vaping was where I was comfortable. The 510 has such expendable
batteries and atomizers, so I began to worry about the life of them. I ordered five of them. Constantly charging one while I vaped the others.

I do wonder if Newbies might have a happier experience, myself included, if we just jumped into a well recommended mod in the beginning. I certainly would have saved a huge amount of money, had a more pleasant experience with taste, and found some of the mods you can use all day
on one battery charge. If I had decided that vaping was not for me,
the thread here with selling a used unit, would have wound up costing me
very little, in comparison.

Just some thoughts I am throwing out there. Not dissing the 510 in any way, but considering it will eventually be a throw-away, was hard for me to accept, especially money wise. Hindsight is sooo vivid, huh?

Hmm Well being I am a noob to this and my first unit was Smoke 51 trio I was told i would be happier with the 510 with push button. Well i got my 510 on Wed this week and Im loving it. I do think later on i may advance, BUT im loving it, I love playing with the different flavors, i love the feeling that im smoking a anolog. That fact there will help me kick the anolog habit, For myself i had to go with something that made my mind think it was smoking an anolog, i think if i vaped on something else right now my mind would be like hey thats not a "smoke". So for now it is 510 for me. I do understand what you are saying tho.

the only reason i wouldnt as a noob have thought of this is because i didnt know there WAS a classified section as a newcomer and didnt realise mods were being sold there at a nearly new price?

also i woulda been afraid to shell out alot on my first purchase in case i didnt like it as you said...also with disposables easily accessible now i may suggest trying one of those and then a mod and leave the 510/901s as an interim ecig outta the equation...just my thoughts but i agree with you totally...if i knew then what i know now eh....sigh

if a newcomer stumbles upon this thread there is a "sticky" forum in my signature line(link) that is for newcomers to avoid the mistakes that older members on ecf may have made and how to get past these-it delas with lots of areas of ecigs...just a thought:D

most people 2 start off dont even know what a mod was i didnt i started with a 510 starter pack from esmokeronline then got a passthru. also people do think mods are redicalsy big AT FIRST then its not so bad considering smokiing u gota have a pack and a lighter with takes up a pocket and a mod does takes up the same pocket. i think it would be better if a newbie started off with a mod cuz they will get one soon after they get there regular e cig but as the 510 atty it is the best atty there is in my apinion. and almost every mod cumes witha 510 adapter already on it

Thanks all, and 77, yep, I admit, my mods 3/4 of them have the 510 atty on them. I have an 801 but use it less frequently now. I do get in a bit of a panic if I run low on extra 510 attys. I did love my 510s and the 510 Titan, but hated the idea they were eventually gonna burn out on me.
I don't know what others paid, I spent a "lot" on kits. Being new you don't always know that Cignot has a good price on the kits and I have seen folks directed there for their buys, and I would say "kudos" for those suggestions. Hindsight is just great, isn't it, as I said earlier, not dissing the 510 at all...B.

Deschain is right - the 510 is a great starting point for the reasons he gave. If you later want/need a mod the 510 also lends itself well for modding.
Another thing is until you get 'any' PV, you have no idea what you might want MORE of at the start. I found that TH wasn't as big a deal for me as I had thought it might be, tho I like vapor I'm also not bothered about having clouds n clouds of it.
The only thing I decieded I want more of is juice, and apart from the JB mod, there's no real solution to that one (vape more I guess lol)

I tried my friends hardware - all told about 6 or 7 different units. The 510 was recommended because I was a heavy smoker, and one of the things I noticed right away was that vapor is significantly thinner (less dense) than cigarette smoke... it "felt wrong".

One of my friends who quit with e-cigs pointed out that:
1) It's cigarette shaped/sized, so it will feel natural in your hands
2) It puts out a greater volume of vapor than other "mini" units
3) It charges fast and recomended the PCC for ultimate travel (work, really) convienence.

Overall, I have to say it was a good first choice - especially for the PCC and 2 complete unit "starter kit" which cost about the same as a carton and a quarter of analogs. I'm totally loving the vapor volume, and while I'm sure I'll go with an HV mod eventually, I suspect I'll keep using these units in "public" situations for quite some time... as long as they keep producing batteries and addys for them!**

**I find it amusing that the cheapest, simplest part is also the most permanent... :D

i think the 510 is like the first 10 speed bike you buy. it's cheap, fairly easy to learn all the tricks on and is pretty good at doing what it was designed to do. after that you can decide you want a high performance racing 10 speed or an impossible to kill mountain bike. it's not a good idea to buy the mountain bike for street racing or the racer for offroad. until a person decides what they want to do with it it's hard to choose which mod will work best for you. me, i'm happy with the 510 for now.

Just got my 510 today and I'm semi-newbie, but my first ecig was the 51 Duo... But I can already see why they recommend 510. It's cheap and reliable for the price. My Duo is ok, but for the price I'm kinda kicking myself just a tad... I think everyone is different and might have different needs is why it's good to start just out of the box too. But I can safely say the one thing I learned within minutes is poly doesn't last long! I got some prefilled carts and they were nicely juiced, but I sucked them dry within minutes! Tried the ptb instead and have been ok for a little bit now- so far liking it with no complaints! I wonder if the quick topping off of the poly might turn off some new to vaping- maybe mentioning different fillers in the very least might not be a good idea! If I hadn't known about the lipton pyramid teabags from this forum and just tried it like that, I'd be omw to the kwiki-mart for a pack of camel wides real quick!

Btw, I agree @ cignot- where I got my 510. Can't beat that price and their shipping was INSANELY quick! Truly awesome!

All have great points:) Most people are unsure if they'll really "take" to vaping in the beginning:) A 510 kit from cignot is $35, and enough equipment for anyone to be able to decide if vaping is for them:) For me the 510 was a "aha" moment after trying another crappy mini:) The vapor production and throat hit you can get from a 510 made it possible for me to quit cigarettes:) The learning curve is a necessary part of it. You must walk before you run to the mods:D My nickel:)

Hi Harry, Yep, I imagine the pass through is a good choice for people that travel or work daily near their computers. Kinda kick myself for not having
ever bought one; as the times I have been on the road for hours, my
batteries would stop working. Traveling is not good without either the pass-through or a long lasting battery mod.

I started out with a J118, and knew it was not the ideal, but was enough for me to decide vaping was for me. I then found the ECF here and read and read and saw that the 510s were very popular. My drawback definitely was the money spent over a matter of a few months on 510s. My 510 were not from a supplier that offered any bargains; thus I paid huge for them. In fact they have been inherited by my daughter, so they are still vapable as far as I know.

Experience is the best teacher, but in my case an expensive one. I certainly cannot brag about money saved anymore than the fisherman who figures ihis cost per pound for fresh catch is $116.00. Lol!

Thanks all for the comments!

If I had it to do all over again, I'd have about 4 Joye 510's and my Super-T Six, and my Lil Chuck. They're all dependable and produce consistent vapor, all the time. The batteries on the higher volt Mods make them cheap to use, and I use 510 attys on all of them.

I'll never throw out my Copper Joye 510's because they're so small and make a terrific back-up at all times. They put out great vapor too. I love those little things. I mostly vape my Mods, but am never w/o a Joye 510 in my pocket.

I think the Joye 510 is the perfect 'first' ecig, yes, because it's more like a cigarette and therefore probably easier to transition to, but also because it's a dependable little device to get one going. After finally deciding to vape and learning more, then the newbie can move on to the Mods.

The eGo/Tornado came out as I was trying to make my decision on a first e-cig. Battery life was key and I wasn't disappointed - 24 hours on my first charge!

I'll admit I'd seriously considered something closer to an analog but I didn't want to spend a lot of effort juggling batteries.

The Tornado has a 510 atty and charger, though, so I should be able to get a 510 batt for those times when I want something light enough to dangle in my mouth (none too easy with the big batt on the Tornado).

I don't think mods would be good for first timers because it can get confusing if you're not familiar with how the parts work together - a battery mod with an adapter to an atty and another adapter for a cartomizer from another model? It's like trying to put together a car engine kit!

Kits like the 510s are great for beginners. Fairly easy to use and a good analog replacement. And a lot of the mods will work with 510 attys or if not the adapters are fairly common. They're a good starting point as well as a base to launch into the more complexities from.

Just finished my first week with a 510 kit and I'd be happy with a few extended batteries. Don't need to spring for a Juice Box - just yet.

Cost - As I read about it, I felt that vaping would work for me. But I don't know if I would have been willing to sink $200 into that possibility. Most mods cost at least $100 plus juice plus atomizers and, sometimes, plus a battery charger. if you are 100% sure you are going to like vaping, fine. But most people aren't that positive.

Looks - Until I started reading here, it hadn't even occurred to me that white with a brown cart wasn't the best idea as people would think it was a cigarette. I certainly wasn't ready for something with a weird shape.

Finding out what's best for you - My first PV was an 801. The only thing I don't like about it is the manual batt. I now have a 510 which I like a lot, but I prefer the 801. Now that I'm looking for a mod, I'm concentrating on the ones that are threaded for an 801 and I'll probably buy an adapter so I can use 510 carts on it as well.

It's taken a lot of reading, but I've also figured out that I'm not interested in the "advantages" of vaping at 5V. I want a long-lasting 3.7V battery. I wouldn't have known any of that when I ordered my first PV two months ago.

I was going to get a 901 and someone suggested a 510 and I'm certainly glad they did. For one thig I didn't know if I was going to like vaping and it was a quality unit at a low price. I'm still happily vaping with my 510 and will probably always have it on hand no matter how many mods I get. Plus it's mentioned not only on ecf but other sites too.
