Hello folks, I decided I want to buy a vamo (latest version) because of the low price and happy customers, problem is, where do I find a genuine one? There seems to be a lot of knock offs going around. Also, this will be my first mod, I really want to stay safe when it comes to batteries, which battery brand and chargers should I look for? Thanks a lot guys and gals.

Hi and welcome!

There is no such thing as a "genuine" Vamo - actually, it's more accurate to say there's no such thing as a knock-off Vamo. KSD has been reported to be the company who first introduced the device, but even if that could be documented, they may not have been the first manufacturer. The Vamo has been around for awhile and at one point was known as the Bamboo (there's another mod out now called the Bamboo, which is completely different). See? Clear as mud.

There are many different manufacturers and not all Vamos are the same, even ones bearing the same version designations. It's kind of a toss up. You have over 5 posts, so you may want to visit the Vamo sub-forum in the APV section to see where people have bought theirs. FastTech often has the best prices, but some people prefer to buy in the US.

Vision (the company who brought us the Vivi Nova and the Spinner) have recently started to offer a Vamo and there's a pretty good price at Mad Vapes: http://.........blogspot.com/2013/12/its-eve-visions-gun-metal-vamo-2850-usa.html

Oops! I didn't catch the battery question. The Vamo takes unprotected, safe chemistry, high drain batteries. I use AW in mine, as I do with all of my regulated mods. In short mode the Vamo takes an 18350 and in long mode an 18650. I usually buy mine from RTD Vapor:

Xtar and Nitecore are okay chargers; Pila is better, but pricy. One tip - it's recommended not to use batteries or chargers with "fire" as part of the name.

That particular version is the oldest design (LED readout vs OLED, flush 510 connector vs raise, flat top that doesn't come off vs removeable beveled, etc). And the gunmetal finish is horrible as it scratches and flakes very easy.

I'd recommend a v5 in stainless steel

I know very little about Vamos. I have a V5 bought from China. It's a back-up device.

My preferred batteries are panasonic green 3,400mAh, but I have no clue what the "name" (NCR18650B) of them means.

To get some idea of brands, this is interesting, even if a bit old now.

I honestly can't keep up with all of the versions that have come out, I was just looking at the price and that I know Vision is a reputable company. I agree about the gun metal finish, at least on the V2 ( I think that's what I have, I don't know), but when I mentioned recently to steer clear of it, I was told that the finish had been changed and doesn't wear off. I too recommend the stainless - although to be honest, I prefer my Sigelei Zmax to my Vamo, hands down.

THING TO NOTE!! If you use button tops in the vamo they have a tendency to push up the centre pin connector past the washer that surrounds it. Upshot is, if this happens to much the centre pin will not sit flush with, but under the washer so flat top batteries can't make a connection as they hit the washer before the pin.

This has happened to mine. Sure I could fix or send to someone to fix but cant be bothered at the mo! I your planning on using flat tops for the most part then avoid button tops.
