Contact your elected officials. I contacted both the Democrat and Republican ones in my state about things important to me. I doesnt hurt and they do reply. If your elected official is one of those pro government control, anti vaping then take the time to try to explain to them. Let them know if thats the reason you quit smoking and if they still dont want to listen to you let them know you will be spreading the word that they need to go. That always gets a reaction from them.

OK, so far from the comments I have on the list of names of people in power who are anti-vaping:

Senator Edward J. Markey - Massachusetts
Senator Elizabeth Warren - Massachusetts
Mayor Nutter signed into law a vaping ban in Philadelphia
Senator Tom Harkin from Iowa
Six US Senate Democrats (Boxer-CA, Blumenthal-CT, Brown-OH, Durbin-IL, Markey-MA, Reed-RI)
NY Times e-cig propagandist (aka reporter) Matt Richtell
Bloomberg
Christie, Snyder & Kasich
Jerry Brown, Gov of California

I'm sure the list must be larger than this. Anyone else?

But this is a REALLY good start and is exactly the kind of info I'm looking fore. Thanks.

The tax is capped at $5 per transaction. It is still a steep tax.
as i have written in the post concerning the tax in question the $5 cap is very vague.
it my be a deliberate ploy.
lets say you buy 22 e-cig related items. 5 dollars total tax seams reasonable.
now you buy the same 22 items and now the tax is 1 item plus another totaling 22
separate transactions in one purchase.ouch.
they may even start out at a 5 dollar cap for a total transaction.
i am willing to bet that the interpretation changes faster than
you can shake a stick at it.

I just got a very reasonable, even-handed response from Sen. Angus King of Maine.

He concludes:

. . . I am aware of and have heard varying reports regarding the effectiveness of e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool and am hopeful that more research is done to provide a clearer picture. I think continued, unbiased scientific research on e-cigarettes is needed to ensure proper regulations are developed that ensure safety without overly burdening consumers or businesses.

Not bad, right? :)
