Who is using 14500 Protected in Protege?

Oh Richie, you are so very kind and I appreciate your offer, but I seriously don't want these exact types again. I want to experience a different brand correctly. I do know Steve is sending me 2 tenergy unprotected ones, which is very kind of him, for me to see the difference. Granted, he knows I don't want to use unprotected, but I am going to try them just at least, as he requested so I can get 4-5 hours of vape. Mean while search for a protected quality one. Yes, it is truly frustrating because these the only ones I have ever had and I bought so many and I am unable to truly enjoy my Protege for hours like I should and my switch was NOT bad at all, it definitely is these batteries. I have appreciated Steve and Casey's help with all of this.

Yes, Kevin, I believe you are right and the ones I got from HTD and DE look identical on the tops. You see.....these batteries USED to look different on the top with more silver showing than white. Now it is a huge circle of white with a small part of the positive silver thing showing.

Would you mind giving me a link to where I can buy some decent protected Tenergy ones? I would imagine they are cheaper than the AW.

I can't keep up with your posting speed. I have just broke the seal and put 2 of the HTD bats on charge. I'll give them a go and let you know.

Sorry but Tenergy doesn't offer a protected 14500 battery. But I wouldn't think that they would have a problem because the vapor production drops off long before they reach minimum voltage. The battery charger protects them at charging and will not over charge them.

PS: The unprotected Tenergy bats are what PS offers on their web site. I would have no problem using those batteries.

Last night after reading this thread I put a freshly charged Trustfire in at 11:00 pm.
I got 3.5 hours before the big drop, almost no vapor. I thought for the last week or so that it seemed like they weren't lasting but I never really kept track. So basically in 1 month they have lost 1/2 capacity.


My next test is the longevity of the Tenergy to see which I will buy more of.

That's really fairly normal. Batteries are like atomizers, they have a finite number of times they can be recharged. The more times they are charged the less power they retain.

While I realize it's fairly normal for a battery to degrade with time I think this is very excessive. I have lithium batteries in cell phones and the like that get charged many more times than these batteries and haven't lost 1/2 their usable time in a month. As a matter of fact after years of service, those other lithium batteries have degraded very little.

Steve says the unprotected ones aren't doing what mine are doing, but I don't want to use that kind so I am forced to buy AW protected ones now. They are expensive.

Steve uses the unprotected Tenergys like I do because they work great. The charger protects against overcharge and the batts cut off at 2.75v. Not that you'll ever get to that low a voltage - the vapor would be nil. I've never taken one off below 3.4v.

Where you really need protected batts is running 2 3.0v cr2s or similar batts in series for 5 or 6v. That's where the horror stories come from. They are camera batteries and just aren't built for that, though if you're careful you can get by with them.

Ya, I know, I haven't read not even one horror story on an unprotected single 14500 or 10440 exploding or doing anything to anyone so far. It's been the others used in series. I might just have to change my mind and use the Tenergies because I have had ENOUGH of this garbage. I will buy a few AW's to test and see what the hoopla is about and I will be trying the 2 Tenergies that Steve is sending me and I will go from there.

I am sad to report that the FOUR right out of the package trust fires charged on a brand new charger are doing EXACTLY the same thing. I'm done.

I buy my beautiful Protege and my beautiful BB to use these to have long lasting batty life. They are both such awesome mods.

Sadly, I am getting way more satisfaction from 510 mega batties and that just ain't right.

I just looked at Steve's prices on his Tenergies. They really aren't too bad at all. I'm going to try out the ones he is graciously sending me and report back in. I will also order 2 AW's and one of AW's unprotected and test them out. Then after spending 100's of dollars on stupid batteries, I could have went shopping and bought a hot new pair of boots. Just sayin.

Just for the record, Steve actually purposely TRIED to get the unprotected batteries to explode, catch on fire, stab you, whatever other horrible things people have heard...

I'm not sure how my experience with the different cylindrical li-ion batteries can compare with yours or with the cell phone batteries. The life of my batteries will varry with my vaping habits. When I'm not working and vape continuously I feel lucky to get 4 or 5 hours from a 14500. When I'm working and vape intermittantly the battery life is quite different. How long a battery lasts is inversely perportional to the frequency of the drags. We have no common ground to compare apples to apples.

The tests that you conduct with the batteries and your own vaping habits will mean far more than anyone elses experiences.

Cell phones of the current variety are digital and use much less power than normal battery operated devices do.

I do agree that we should get more life out of these batteries. But they are what they are.

I agree, Kevin, but when you buy brand new protected Trust Fires and are getting only an hour to an hour and a half out of them, something is just not right. I have three of them with the larger silver top that I was using and rotating in a nico stick and THEY held up for only having to use 2 a day, but when I put them in my Protege, they did not. I'm still very confused over that. These are the older type they made. NOW they are making them different where the top is mostly white with a small silver positive thing and THEY SUCK!!!!!! Or at least the 12 I have purchased from HTD and DE do.

Actually, I'm still on my FIRST mega batty from this morning and it's 5 pm. NO I have not vaped non stop on it, but I take puffs of it intermittently between my mod. It is still full vape.
