I love you man... your my hero... and much better at Public Relations than I will ever be...

That's the exact firing instuctions I use when I Heat treat (harden) my nextel. The link I provided is from the technical manual that is available online, there is a case study describing in detail the testing done on lab rats as well, which is eluding me at the moment. The document I provided provides an accurate synopsis of the case study, (which I have fully read multiple times BEFORE, I vaped on this stuff) regarding the effects on a lab rats. The foreshortened version doesn't include the facts that in order for them to actually get the fibers into the rats lungs they had to insert a tube into the lungs to bypass the mucus membranes. Otherwise the particles would have never made it into the lungs.

Yes the document says that it may irritate the upper respiratory tract if inhaled, this is true! But inhaling ANY particles will do this, (Silica based wicks will and DO shed too.) Here's the catch! It is all about what it does once it is inside of you. ALL of the research I have seen shows that Nextel is a large, and biologically inert particle. It doesn't cause cancer or mesothelioma or silicosis, even when dumped in un realistic quantities directly into the lungs of lab rats.

I personally have never stated that this is a certified safe product, all I can do is suggest that people educate themselves before they do, it's all there in black and white.

Imeo has a perfect wick! It's has two safety certificates.

Nextel 312 (xc 116) isn't a plug and play ecig product folks. This is an aerospace heat shielding product that some of us have been exploring.

i think poppa is right about the particals ...and if you believe that none will enter your mouth then thats rather nieve.
you just have to look at the build up you get on drip tips for a start.
i dont know if it will have ill afect or not, but we give up smoking and take up vapeing for a healthy alternative so why add more risk.
i purchased fiberglass wick in a group buy on ukvapers, after taking it out of the bag i noticed i had fibers all over my hand.
i threw it in the bin as i feel that it was not save to use.
i also think its personall choice and poppa just was letting vapers know his thoughts.
its up to you what you do, but i wouldnt use it either.

its a shame cos i liked the idea, but not the particles

So I have a foot of this on the way. I'm curious are you all getting superior re-use ability out of this wick? Can it just be torched clean and re-used? Typically with silica wicks I just wrap a new every few days and carry on. At this price that probably isn't as practical, so I was curious. I suspect its no less "safe" than what I'm using now(standard silica wick), I'm just hoping it gives a better vape:) thanks

Yes, you can torch it and reuse it a few times if you need to. OTOH, if you try Mr. Krinkle's method, you will end up using a very small amount of wick for every coil and $2.25 per foot of nextel will seem negligible. Just my thoughts...

Ive read this thread again , where can I find Krinkles method? I get the heat treating part, I didn't see where you could use much smaller quantities of this wick, and how ...

Here you go: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...c-116-without-moding-ceramic.html#post5126570

If you end up trying this, just make sure to tuck the positive end of the wire really well in the ceramic channel so that it can't touch the metal part of the body, otherwise it will short out.

Hello every one. I have a question I recently got some of the Nextel ceramic and was wondering, if I dont have a kiln can I put it in the over? If I do, what temp do you suggest and for how long? I tried torching it with a lighter and it just singed it. I didnt want to use it after for fear of it giving off a bad taste. Let me know, I have a over 50 ft of it.

For those of us who don't have a kiln, the next best thing is a torch. A regular lighter won't be able to do the job. Just torch a small section at a time and you'll know that it's done when the bright red glow of the wick turns to white-ish color glow. Don't be afraid of overdoing it, you can't hurt it.

It wont singe? I mean when I hit it with the lighter it got all sooty, sort of burned looking. Is that normal? Will the wick still look white after torching?

Well I couldnt resist, I loaded up in my Ody and my Vivi nova, working wonderfully. Wicks great, no odd taste, both have been performing outstandingly. It wicked perfectly on the Vivi Nova. Perfect width, fit right in the Vivi head. It also fit perfectly on the Ody.
It also didnt fall apart like regular silica. It was easy to wind the wick as its nice and firm. The braided one I have is sort of a tube, being sort of hollow, like a straw, and it feathers out great and absorbs much faster than cotton. Its a thumbs up in my book:thumb:

I'm happy that you're liking it! However, the way you stated your post "Well I couldnt resist, ..." almost sounds like you maybe didn't pre-treat it as suggested. I'm hoping that I just misinterpreted what you meant and that you did torch it really well as it would not be wise to use it in it's original form.
