Why are some food flavorings good/bad to use?

Yes, i read that. It says:
For newer DIYers, avoid buying those that are insoluble in water - they may damage atomizers
but it does not say how it damages it or why. Then it says some people dilute oils with alcohol. Are the oils what is considered "insoluble in water" ? And if so, how does diluting them make them soluble?

Different chemicals vaporize at different temperatures and some leave residue. Even PG and VG have very different vaporization temperatures. Usually food flavorings don't disclose all of the chemicals in them so it's mostly just a warning. Most won't leave anything behind on the atomizer but some might.

Many chemicals that aren't soluble in water are soluble in ethyl alcohol, so some flavorings will separate in the mixture unless you mix them with alcohol first. Ask your chemistry professor if you want more details.
