why do I feel so many vapers like to "collect" and hoard PVs?

I dont have a lot of mods. Part of my problem had always been that if I don't regularly use something I feel guilty for buying it. So what mods and batteries i do own have designated purposes. Same with my juices to a lesser extent. I've mentioned this in some other threads.

I sprung for a magneto mod today and I hovered over the buy button for quite some time before clicking. I had to give myself a reason and purpose for it before I could comfortably buy it. Which its designated for self wrapped coils and learning on my free time. I really think it's going to be quite difficult for me to buy another mech.

So for me thie hobby isn't about collecting, its about tinkering and learning. Now that I think about it, I do the same with pocket knives. Love them but every one I buy has to have a designated purpose. Work knife, going out knife, around the house knife, etc. It sucks but helps the wallet.

Ironically vaping has helped with my newest hobby, ham radio. Just learning about ohms law gave me insight.

Loads of mods - loads of atties - loads of batteries. Wife has loads of mods - loads of drip tips!! - loads of batteries.

We both have our favourites out of those, separated into what you'd use/take anywhere and what stays at home.

But if i said i had - i dunno - 14 mods on my desk, and then you look at the banner below, we're still saving a fortune and making our own coils and juice saves more and gives me a little comfort that whatever the government eventually decides to do, we can carry on in our own sweet way.

I've actually thinned out my vaping gear out quite a lot over the past month to what works for me and what I perceive as being able to last a very long time. I have been hoarding e-juice though, same as another poster mentioned, the impending taxes that are looming over this industry is probably what is driving my desire to have enough juice in rotation for about a year.

I think also it is an obsession to achieve the best possible blank. ( insert hobby here).
People always say hind sight is 20/20 and had they known better they never would had bought most of what they had .
I think is all a crucial part of the learning experience and enjoyment of the hobby.

Just my humble 2¢

I believe the majority of vapers are not collectors. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of them use ego style batteries. The vapers you see here on the forum are the ones that sought out more information and ended up here. The vapers here are more likely to be the collecting type than the ones that are not here. I have a lot of gear. I enjoy the hobby. My mom? She's rocking an ego.

Whenever I go into a vape shop I am usually in the minority. Most people walking in are looking for a bottle of juice and some type of clearo for their ego. Most of them probably aren't members here.

The people you run into here on ECF are not "the average vaper". For the most part, there are two types of people here.

One type are the "I just started vaping, I have a question" type. They are still learning how it works, asking questions, etc. Maybe they are still trying to get off the cigs and need the support group. I know it took me several months to get completely cig free. (Now I know that I needed more nic. I started at 24, and had to go to 30 to quit.)

The other type are those that have more or less turned vaping into a hobby. And if you're a hobbyist, sure, you'll try out new stuff from time to time and will often end up with a fair collection.

I don't have any proof of this, but it's logical. New people have questions, so they come here. If you learn the basics, and don't turn into a hobbyist, then chances are, you quit hanging out on ECF.

That leaves a pretty high percentage of the people who are active on the forums as the hobbyist group.

I have a provari, vision spinners, ego's, ego twists, a buzz pro, a lavatube, a madvapes VV box mod, and probably some stuff I've forgotten along the way. Plus misc batteries for mods, and chargers, multiple different kinds of tanks, cartomizers, atomizers, and various parts and pieces. And before long, I'll probably get a MVP just because I keep hearing people talk about them. I've been off the cigs for over 2 years, but I'm still a bit shocked, after smoking for 30 years. The money to buy a new device now and then still leaves me saving a *ton* of money compared to when I was smoking. I didn't really mean for it to turn into a hobby, but if that's the price of getting off the cigs, I'll take it.

Yeah it seems that way, if it makes you feel any better I only have two devices if that, ones a back up device and two additional cheap tanks (that have no attys so don’t work).

I see vaping as a hobby and want to hoard lots of PVs but can’t really afford to so I just make do with the best I can :)

this is my stance exactly. A buddy of mine who used to vape and got me into it had tons of high end PVs and all that jazz. When I got into it I wanted to do that but didnt have the money. Practicality also played a role. Before I quit vaping the first time I had 2 sigelei zmaxs and 2 vamos and a handful of carto tanks and clearos. Im back into it now and I have an SVD, and iclear 30s and an i06 dripping atty. I want to get more but I dont have the funds but I am also perfectly content with what I have now.

I kept upgrading my equipment just because they kept breaking on me. Started with an ego, top kept popping off. Bought an mvp, battery broke down after 6 months. Bought a silver bullet, found it really cumbersome, wanted a stealth vape. Got sick of paying $10 a pop for 510 atomizers, doing for an rda. So all of my purchases so far have been out of necessity to keep vaping. I have made one unnecessary purchase, I bought a second mech and an rda to go with it as a reward for making it 1 year. I figure having a backup for the bullet can't be a bad idea. Plus I am working to reduce my nic intake the rda helped me cut it in half I figure I'd tinker with some new builds to go lower.

I wouldn't consider myself an enthusiest. What I started with (Blu) was a P.I.T.A. So every time I Googled ecig reviews, I always ended up lurking on this forum. I joined, because, why not. I ended up getting what I have, because I wanted something good for work and driving, and something good for sitting. It is nice to go on this forum after work to chill, and vape.

I love having a new and very interesting hobby; I love learning new stuff; I *LOOOOOOOOVE* meeting a huge group of like-minded people with at least one interest in common; and I want to have a backup for my backup's backup. :D I don't want to give that idiot addict in my brain ANY excuse for even THINKING well I'll just go back to smoking. Not even ONE!
