Why do you call cigarettes "analogs"?

As a guitar player, if I wanted to be clever I'd call them "acoustics" (as in non-electric--get it?) instead of "analogs." But I don't want to be clever so I call them "cigarettes," which is what they are.

I get a bit peevish when I read newbie posts referring to "analogs," as if one has to use the word to be a member of the club. Am often tempted to reply "Oh by the way, it's alright to refer to them as 'cigarettes'."

Even tho I consider myself a fairly proficient typist/keyboarder, I still have to stop and think every time I type the word cigarette. Is it two "r's" or two "t's"? LOL.
The thought that 'analog' is easier to type than 'cigarette' has been expressed a couple of times in the thread. I guess for some it's true. I've been touch typing for more than 40 years and I don't think about individual letters too much. But, for the sake of argument ... so is a lot easier to type than Frisbee ... but the words have different meanings. Using one word over another due to ease of typing would render language useless.
Also, another pet peeve of mine: when you let juice rest to improve it, it's not "steeping" (steeping is to "completely soak or allow to infuse"). You're really allowing time for diffusion (and possibly oxidation) to take place.
Agreed. And, like analog, I'm guilty at times of referring to aging as steeping. It's more like aging, as in aging a wine or cheese, IMO.

To touch the ease of typing issue again. The texting community is becoming less OMG about spelling out full words and phrases. Partially due to qwerty keyboards on phones, and partially due to the age of the initial group growing up. I'm sure we'll see a drop in the amount of nicknames created for every word under the sun. But, as for spoken language, what used to be so dope, just isn't as sick as it used to be; and eventually the word analog will just be ish instead of being the sh**.

I responded to a thread earlier this evening, in which I expressed my feeling that calling a cigarette, an analog is ... well, kinda dumb.

When I was a newbie, I initially did the same because I saw everyone else doing it.

But, seriously, isn't it kinda silly? What is the logical reasoning behind this?

Why the aversion to calling cigarettes, uh, cigarettes? That's what they are.

What is the problem with calling a spade a spade????
I agree completely and have never called a cigarette anything but a cigarette because it sounds "dumb" as you say to use some politically correct word instead of what it is. I also hate using PV or vaporizer or anything other than what it is: an electronic cigarette. Vaporizer sounds like a drug delivery device or something one puts in a kid's room when they have chest congestion.
