You are very right! I've not found sub ohm to be to my liking, but I don't discourage it, IF it's done properly! A newbie coming in saying he's running .5 ohms, or less, but isn't even sure of the battery he's using, well............
I'm pretty sure you and I are on the same page, what ever works, go for it! But don't discourage what I like and why at the same time! I've found 1.8 ohms is my "happy place" with a carto on a mechanical. I normally like 8 watts, and this is just right there for me! It hits a bit hard to start, then evens out to a nice warm place to be!
This is why I hate to see them getting kicked to the curb because the sub ohm culture seems to think that's the only alternative for a mechanical! There are so many other reasons to use them than just that! It's just frustrating to me to watch newbie after newbie get this misinformation.

I do notice a lot of new vapers going straight into sub ohms lately because of "trend" and they dont fully understand the risks and limits of the battery. I understand why you disagree because just like gun laws, its very borderline and when 1 person screws up, it messes it up for the rest of us.. that bank robbery in the 90's with the AK's messed up our rights to own assault rifles so I know why you preach.

one of my top 3 reasons is being able to disassemble it and clean every part thoroughly (threads!!). mod fires best when its squeaky clean. can't do that with any other pv's. and brass patina... ohhh so nice

Squeaky clean is a no no lol you gotta rub some noalox on those squeaky clean threads lol

Right ou are guppy! Lowers the voltage drop considerably. :)

The only reason I got into mechs was because I, like Tim Allen, can't leave well enough alone and felt guilty a out pulling apart my provari. So I bought a cheap 15 dollar mechanical and a few RDA's since I loved dripping on a standard 510 1.5 ohm atty. Then the wife started nagging because I had 4 mechanicals, and I asked her if she would prefer I modify the remote control to have a laser beam in it that I can hit the moon with.... She said buy 3 more of those things! So it wasn't because I wasn't satisfied with my vape as to why I bought mechanicals... But I found I like it more and it's a hell of a lot cheaper the cartos or any other style coil. :)

Size, simplicity, durability.

If it's an ego vs mech discussion; I find it wasteful to chuck a piece of electronics and a battery container every time a battery dies. Also, I don't need to get extra ego batteries just to keep vaping. I can get extra batteries and charge some while vaping with another. And... I can know what battery chemistry I use.

Also, the age-old length vs girth debate.

(Not wanting to do the ol' sub-ohm discussion again)

............. I'm still befuddled where this crap "you have to have an RBA on a mechanical or it's just not worth doing!" ............

The reson I got into mechanical mods was because they looked so damn good! But they dont work so well with cartos or anything non rebuildable unless you have a kick. ..............

I'm just barely into mechanicals and I have not used an rba yet. but I just wanted to comment that I remember when mechanicals started getting popular. there were no rbas or kicks then yet everyone still thought mechanicals were the bees knees and they worked great with attys, cartos, etc :)

Mostly because I didn't feel like paying extra for a VV Reo... :p

In all reality tho I do like the simplicity of it, and the fact that I can break it down and clean everything, apply Noalox/Oxgard, put it back together and have a superb vape. I found that I also have automatically adjusted to the battery drop of and can just -feel- when my batt is ready for charging and can usually guess the voltage within .01 of what my meter reads. ;)

I don't even run sub-ohm on it, well not yet. Running a nice 1.7 ohm micro coil on a RM2 and the flavor is just top notch, something I wasn't getting out of my SVD with kanger tanks... Of course that's a $100+ difference in devices/heads too... :p

The first thing I did when I bought a mechanical was I immediately bought a kick. Bought the K100 then a Sigelei #20, love them both. Use both now without a kick but the voltage swing is somewhat annoying. Bought the mechs because of the way they looked and I wanted to get into coil building. Dry burning coils on a mech is the only way to go. Now that I have gotten better at building coils, I like my mechs without the Kick. Size was also a factor.

they look cool and give me the exact quality of vape that I want, anytime. they allow complete control over any and all aspects of vapor production.

I don't have to worry about an LCD going out, fiddling with buttons, or an internal circuit board getting juice on it or being damaged in a fall. The 18650 batteries I throw in them easily last me all day long and are dirt cheap, and if there is a mechanical problem I can usually get a part to fix it at the local Home Depot.

I started with a Joyetech twist, went to a flat top Sigelei Zmax, then went to a Provari, and now I have a Atmizoo Roller. The Roller is a nice little Mech, nothing fancy, just simple and elegant.

I am a person who tries different things. I have tried Prtotanks, Davide's, and Dbox BCCs. I have Cartos with IBT and Phiniac tanks. I have a RSST and I am looking to buy a Russian 91%(I will have to wait a while).

I use my RSST with a 1.8/9ohm micro coil. I wrap my own heads for the BCC, usually around the same ohms. I don't use RDAs as I have found them not to be convenient for me. I like to fill a tank or two, and I am done for the day.

So my Porvari gives me a more consistent hit on my RSST than the Roller. As for not being robust, I have had my Porvair run over, and it works just fine. Maybe cheap electronics don't last, but then cheap Mechs don't last either.

I still like my carto tanks the best, probably because the vapor is cooler than it is with a RBA. They also last me longer than my BCCs. They are no hazzle to use. I get mine for about a $1 shipped, last me two weeks, and then tossed. No taking out the wick to clean when it gets gunked up. No wrapping coils. No dry burns. Bigger tanks.

Just me.

My mechanical mod was what allowed me to figure out rbas. You can't throw .3 ohm coils on a provari. My daily vape is a Z-Atty Pro on my provari (derp :vapor:) but at home I don't set down my .6 ohm Nimbus on my Zen dx650. You can't get the flexibility of mechanicals in a VV mod......and the zen mods are so sexy
