:|:?:New to vaping three weeks in since smoking for 22yr at 2 1/2 PK aday. I love vaping but my chest has been feeling like I have a chest cold, and always clearing it. Did this happen to anyone ? Im scared if the vaping is doing this. I have only been vaping PG juice just learned of VG juice. I realy don't want to stop vaping. I have been using 24mg and 36mg Cartomizers because people told me to start with that, since I was a heavy smoker. But my chest and throat has been hurting and they feel weired. Also my friends have been saying since it's water vapor your breathing in can't you get pnemonia from build-up of water in your lungs. So am I vaping to much, is it the mg, is vaping hurting my lungs ? And it dosn't feel like my chest is clearing. But do notice that I can walk longer, go up stairs with out my heart beeping fast, better taste, and smell. It's just my chest that feels weired and a little wezzing. So if anyone has any insight on this matter it would be great. Thanks to everyone in advance !

I can tell you that I was about to throw out all my vaping stuff a couple nights ago. I sounded like a train whistle trying to get to sleep my lungs were wheezing so badly. It was my first week vaping and I was actually a very light smoker and mostly pipes not cigarettes lately. So, it seemed to be doing more harm than good.

I got some new juices today. And it actually feels refreshing to vape this stuff. No more harshness, no more coughing fits on inhaling it. A completely different experience. I vaped this new juice all night tonight and feel great and I'm very happy and relieved. Can't promise its the same thing with you, but this is what I experienced... just some juice that didn't agree with me. Also, I went from 24mg down to 18mg. Not sure if that is what the big difference is, but I know something is very different.

Hi Chibox....So there are a lot of things to consider. First, if you are not smoking at all, you could be going through the adjustment....some have noticed those same symptoms when their body detoxes from the smokes and adjusts to vaping. It is possible that your nic level may be too high and that can cause some discomfort. It is also possible that your body doesn't like PG, so it might not hurt to try some VG juice and see if that helps. But most importantly....if this is causing you concern...you really should go see your physician just to be on the safe side. And make sure that you are drinking plenty of hydrating fluids while you vape. I hope you find the answer fast and that your discomfort subsides quickly. I went through two weeks of withdrawls from the other chemicals in the cigarettes and it made me fairly ill. I wish I could tell you directly what is going on, but I am still learning myself. Take care and stay safe!

A. You are detoxing however many years of smoking out of your body. You WILL feel like krap, your lungs WILL clear all that junk and gunk out of them and begin the healing process. Your body WILL begin filtering all those toxic chemicals out of your system. You have, after all, quit smoking for all intents and purposes. Don't be alarmed if you break out with some pimples, too ! :D

B. You are prolly dehydrated. Most people are, even healthy ones. Both the PG and VG are "humectants" which means it's a substance that can absord liquid from a moist environment. Drink TONS of fluids, preferably water. I couldn't stand the taste of plain water, so I have a 32oz bottle and I buy those crystal light packets. Perfect! In the early days, I would slurp down 3-4 a day. Now, I am holding at 2 and feel good.

C. You might be allergic to PG. Many people are sensitive to PG (Propylene Glycol), in fact, we have a lady we work with that is terribly allergic to it! She doesn't smoke or vape, but will get the sneezies if one of our vapers gets a liquid with pg in it. Go figure.

So, you have a few things to look at. Mix and match, and hang in there :) Oh, and seeing your doc isn't such a bad idea, either!

Some people are allergic or sensitive to the PG and do better on all-VG juices and even PG/VG mixes are smoother going down. And if you are using all PG that stuff's a bit hard on the tongue and throat so I wouldn't be surprised if it can irritate lungs too. Get some cartos or juice with a PG/VG mix? If it's going in cartos maybe try PG70/VG30? I don't know if all VG would work well in cartos?

And 36mg is pretty high nicotine. And to me, cartos seem to deliver more concentrated vapor than carts. Can you try staying away from the 36 and get some 16-18mg to try along with the 24? Maybe you're getting it too fast with the cartos and however much you are vaping? Hopefully you're not smoking at all along with that. Some common signs of too much nicotine are racing heart and headache.

A few years ago, I quit smoking using the old-fashioned method (just quitting) for about 6 months. After the first couple of weeks, my chest felt heavy and I started hawking up evil brown stuff. I did that for several weeks.

+1 Your lungs will start doing their best to clear all of the gunk from years of smoking 50 cigs a day.

Also, I agree, go see a doctor...you could have pnuemonia.

The only thing I've noticed is that I have a headache behind my right eye and in my sinus cavity for approximately the same time I started vaping. The cartomizers I have are a higher level of nicotine than I would normally smoke, so that could be it. I can't be sure that it is related, though, since I do have very bad allergies (sure do miss marinara). My face is like a living barometer if that tells you anything. Ick.

For soar throat, gargle warm salt water a couple times a day. I guess its possible that you might have an allergy to some ingredient in the liquid you are using or the PG, (according to what I have read here.) Does it go away if you don't smoke an e-cig for a day or so? I'm planning to find out by sampling different liquids, as stated above.

edit:

Anyhoodles, I know for a fact that when I quit smoking after a decade, the first time, I was terribly sick. The reason I actually quit is because I developed pleurisy and used to get bronchitis several times a year. Regardless, once I did quit, I was exhausted, depressed, coughed a-LOT of crud up, and this caused back pain, chest pain, and fatigue. I was scared I was going to get pleurisy again and I am always super cautious of it.

I am not doctor, but I don't see why you can't try this...for my sinus troubles and allergies, I have what is called a facial steamer. They cost about $15. Most of them come with extra attachments for your sinuses. This might help you get some of the ickiness out of your lungs and to help moisten them. Its basically a better way of putting the towel over your head and leaning over a pot of boiled water.

I tried a friend's e-cig and the back of my throat felt sore after several puffs? Does anyone else feel this way?

Yes, I used to have this problem. It was a combination of not drinking enough water while vaping and too much PG in my juices. I feel much better now that I've switched to 50/50 PG/VG juices.

LOL, I had this when I first started vaping. It can be nic too high or too low. Turned out that it went away when I went to higher nicotine. I was apparently getting nicotine withdrawal.
