It's an odd world.

People do like to go on about the value of something being what people are prepared to pay.

The thing with e-cigs is the far too many people can't even be bothered to look on the internet at the prices of things.
My opinion is that companies just take advantage where they can.

Take ink cartridges. Go to your local supermarket in the UK and you can buy your ink in a nice box from the company that made your printer. Come home, google it and find out you paid double. Do a few minutes research and you can buy non-oem for 20% of the price you've just paid :)

People just trust that their favourite store won't rip them off. Sadly it's not true. When one of the top supermarkets only offers one e-cig at £3.99 per cartomizer... I smell a rat. It's the same with some online stores... I think they'd rather sell 10ml for £5.99 and not get any repeat custom than sell it for £2.49.

The market is not saturated. Consumer awareness of price is not the control at the moment. They want to make millions and retire.
One company has already made £100 million selling 10ml for £39.99 by putting it in 10 x £3.99 cartomisers.

This reminds me of when i bought my first cigalike for 31$ just the kit, and then i paid 15$ for a 10x pack of cartridges.
That hella expensive i've found the exact same brand for 6$ online and 10x10 cardige BOXES for the price of 15$. I kinda feelt ripped of especially since it s*cked badly.

We'll that was awhile ago, i'm still happy i bought it (just for fun i had never seen an e-cigg before) Because of this i got interested in eciggs and found out that there's way better gear outthere.
So here i'm. :)

I paid $64 for 10 pre-filled cartomizers once.

The company that sells them still charges $64 and likes to say it is the "best/most popular" e-cig in the UK.

They say this; people buy more and more. Nobody (apart from experienced vapers) have questioned the cost.

Anyway, I have persuaded 100s of people over the last year or so to not use their products and tell their friends who want to try vaping.

Yes, the deadline for comments on this tax tomorrow! It's not too late to contact your politician...

http://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/

They actually have the nerve to say this tax is "investing in education".... unbelievable!!!

Any time a politician says the word "invest", cover your wallet. Investments usually involve returns. I don't notice kids are any smarter today than they were years ago...

I think it's a combo of R&D/material cost recovery, taking business from smoking (and let's face it, smoking has become expensive to the point that it costs more than illicit substances in some cases), and last but not least there are so many sources you can get juice from... Unless you get a positive review from a Major Reviewer, it might be kind of difficult to get a start in the biz.

Just wondering if there's an expiry date for the VG, PG and Nicotine, in its unmixed state?
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/179035-nicotine-base-juice-expiration-date.html
This is why I don't bother mixing my own juice. It would take a long time for me to use enough 30ml bottles to equal up to the cost of buying the ingredients separately 1 liter each. Of course the ingredients could be bought in lower quantities more often so expiration would not be a concern, but that will reduce the benefits of going through mixing my own in the first place.

Lets see...

Materials:
Nic base 14,000$
VG/PG 7000$
Multiple flavorants 6000$
Bottles 2000 of each size 800$
Labels 10,000 ink for 10K labels 450$
Building rent 2000 sqr ft 1500$
Electricity 275$
Gas 95$
3 employees 7000$
Insurance 4400$
Advertising 1800$
Shipping matls 500$
and thats just the beginning

I got 3 questions for you:

1. Are you sure you need all the expense?
2. You can not advertise this kind of things (except a few forums but I doubt they charge that much)
3. Is it all worth your while?

Who would be a Major Reviewer?

(No, I am not trying to start making eliquids...to much competition already, just curios)

It's made (the ecig itself) by a good company... but it's a terrible product. I tested some of the atomizer resistances and they are way up there in cloud cuckoo land. The whole thing vapes at 4 watts on a fresh battery and drops after 50 puffs to some pretty low vapour performance.

Is this to get the fabled xxx puffs per cartomizer?

JaxMike - They are not on the stock market, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. If the UK/EU govt. decides to require a certain level of performance (nicotine delivery) from e-cigs, they will be the first brand in deep trouble.

Then again, all the rest of it (clearos and juice) will go down the drain too.

... and at that moment, the Tobacco company ecigs (Vype, Vuse) will step in and spend the required money to get approval.

The tobacco company ecigs are using 45mg liquid... that's going to be illegal in 2016, unless things change.

I agree with you on regulations. Buy you are very negative regarding that firm..you clearly despise them :) Do not take it personally..like the Godfather says "Its just business" . Plus, you must give them some credit for getting you on the vaping train :) I do not see anything bad with them..they make it possible for people to kick an old habit and get a new one (hopefully a better one)

It's not just nicotine you are buying, it's the bottle, the PG/VG, the flavorings, the person mixing it for you, etc. Everyone has to make a living, they are also selling you their time.

I cut out the middle man and buy concentrated nic and cut it with Welcome to Tasty Vapor. :) :vapor:

That's what I do, too. 30cents a bottle or something, I don't know, really cheap and tasty, IMHO. But...I also like to buy pre-made juices, and have no problem paying the prices I do for the ones that knock my socks off. If they're a great vendor, great customer service, great delivery times, tastes awesome, I will gladly give them my money. Bonus to the vendors who are registered suppliers here.

Saying $1 to make a bottle of juice to sell is disingenuous. There certainly are shipping costs (both in raw materials and sending out finished product to customers and stores), rent, payroll (and payroll taxes), income taxes, insurance, business licensing fees, advertising, utilities, website maintenance fees, credit card processing fees, bank fees, accountant fees, office supplies, etc. That all has to be paid out BEFORE the owner/operator can get their cut of the profit. Not much left there. Nobody (well, maybe a couple, can't think of any) is getting filthy rich making and selling juice. Sure, it's probably a living, but it's not millionaire money, for sure.
