My question is ive been vaping for a little over a month. Im about ready to get my first mod and i was thinking something along the lines of the puresmoker icon or v3. Ive been reading a lot and i like those alot and they are in my price range. But if i were vaping a 3.7v mod say on no LR attys would it be worse than vaping a ego battery with an LR atty?

I really want to get into the mods but dont want to spend money on say the 3.7v icon if im going to see no improvement but a slight battery increase and appearance. Or would i be better off going with a V3. The reason i was considering the ICON was mainly for size. Im always on the move so i want something thats still very mobile and i can go places with without it weighing my pocket down. THanks for any help!

You have the math down. An LR atty on an eGo is going to be around the same wattage as a regular 510 atty on any 3.7V mod. Of course, you'll get some boost in vapor if you use that same LR atty on the 3.7volt, but I find just a small difference in the amount of vapor. And some LR attys will knock out flavor at 3.7V vs. the 3.2-3.4v of the eGo.

Still it's an individual choice. The mods you mention are nice - but I just recently sold two Proteges (icons) for the same reason you're doubting whether you should get into them ;-) The eGo does the job, is a bit smaller and well, it cost much less to get an eGo battery.

As far as getting a high voltage unit like the Prodigy V3 - again, you can get close to the experience with an LR atty or cartomizers with the eGo, imo. It's all wattage and for me, anything over @8.5Watts begins to lose flavor and burn out atomizers.

The other consideration on getting a mod would be to have a device that doesn't have a proprietary battery, in a 'worst case scenario' ban, etc. My solution for that was to buy a box mod (a Bartleby to be specific), where batteries would be available regardless of the political situation.

Well said Kent.

Op might also look into variable voltage mods like the little sister from boxmods.net
It will allow for small size and up the voltage to anything they want..

Kent has already pointed out the pros and cons of the Fat Batts (e.g., eGO/Tornado, Riva, Hello 016) vs. 3.7V mods. All I would add are:

1. The style/personal preference factor. The ICON, Tornado, and Bartleby, for example, each have a different look and feel.

2. The 510 is not the only atty out there. It is not my personal favorite (I'm a penstyle atty man), so 510 Fat Batts are not for me. A mod allows you to use other atomizers as well (using a relevant adapter).
I already have one of the very good 3.7V mods (the ProVape-1). [There are other very good ones, of course, including the ICON.] With regular ohm, 1.5 ohm, 2.0 ohm, and 2.5 ohm attys, I can get a variety (but not infinite variety) of watts experience. Therefore, if I were to buy a mod today, it would be either variable voltage (e.g., Buzz, Little Sister, Big Brother) as suggested by doots or juice fed (e.g., Journeyman, Reo, Phidias Woodimus Feedimus) ... and I look forward to the day when I can have both in the same device.
