Why Guarantee Delivery When It Means Nothing?

I check the email with the tracking number. I go to the site to track. I see the delivery is GUARANTEED by 3:00 today, so I start stalking the postal carrier, only to have him come and go with no package for me.

This happens all the time with packages that are sent to me and packages I send.

Why offer guaranteed delivery if you can't follow through? Just say, "We'll try to have it there by Thursday, but there are no guarantees."

It's as disappointing as opening a Christmas present you thought was a video game only to find out it's socks. Boo hiss.

I'm going to start choosing vendors based on who they use for shipping.

I wish it were that simple. I can do that for most of my online shopping but for vaping, most only offer USPS or they offer FedEx/UPS at an extremely high cost. I just think of USPS as "It'll get there at some point" and it usually does. Sometimes it'll arrive on the date they show online, sometimes before or after.

Guarenteed shipping means that you can get your money back if you are not satisfied with the time that it arrived.

Then why, when I track it on Click and Ship, does it say guaranteed delivery by such and such a date? At least with UPS, when you track, you can see that it's out for delivery and you know you'll get it sometime that day.

That's why I never expedite shipping. It's not like you get the package for free or something if they don't hold up their end of the bargain. The only thing that happens for sure is someone gets more of my money.

Yes I should have clarified that. If you contest it and the guarantee was not met and you found it unsatisfactory then you get the shipping for free. Not your package. But thats if its within a certain time frame too.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen one yet that doesn't use USPS.

I did'nt know that, but figured the " guarantee " must mean something. So are you supposed to be able to get back just what is over the cost of regular shipping? If they are going to guarantee it, you should get that plus something for the troubles caused from being late. Whatever they do, I imagine the amount of people who try to get refunds is a very small percentage and they are well aware of that.

Edit: Sorry, not very fast on the keyboard.:)

Yeah they cover the cost of the shipping if its outside a reasonable time. Like 15 mins late, forget it.

The reason they offer it "at an extremely high cost" is because that is what those carriers charge.

I hear people talking all the time about how "The post office should be run by UPS/FEDEX because they get stuff done faster" Well, the reason they do is because they charge about 5x the amount USPS charges.

With USPS you are still getting your stuff VERY VERY fast and frankly it is a steal for the price you pay.

I have had USPS arrive FASTER than things shipped the same day by UPS on more than one occasion. The only difference is that if something gets to the post office after my driver has had his truck loaded, I won't get it until the next day. UPS/FEDEX send out multiple trucks, but they can do that because they aren't stopping at every single house along he way.

Also, if you live in any type of rural area then delivery time guarantees don't apply for any of the three carriers. It is in the fine print.

I want to know where this "guaranteed" delivery date comes from. I will often upgrade to priority mail if I need something by the weekend. The best they ever give me is an "estimated" or "expected" delivery date.

When I track a package, sometime I only get expected or estimated, too, but sometimes, from some vendors, on Click and Ship it says guaranteed delivery by a certain date and time.

The only "guarantee" USPS has is Express Shipping...... starting at 14.95. Guaranteed to be at your address next day or 2nd day by 3 pm depending on the part of the country you reside in.

Not there by 3, the postage is refunded........ That is why it is 14.95. No other service has a "guaranteed" delivery date.

This vendor sent by Express Shipping, maybe because the order was large and delayed. It says Express and guaranteed by 3 today, but I didn't receive it. I guess I should let the vendor know so they can decide if they want to request a refund or not.
