Ninja....wow that is a long lead but your not using 32awg and he is. With a 32g wire that set up (with a long lead like that) would flop around like crazy. It is far easier to do great builds when you center post and the wick hole line up nicely. The DUD isn't designed nicely....most people have a terrible time with the top coil. They end up having to tilt the wick towards the center post in order to shorten their leads and to add some rigidity to their builds....when you do that...IMHO you will get muted flavor. When you bore out the wick hole...that problem is solved and the wick can be left perfectly vertical.

Why would tilting the top of the wick toward the center post mute flavor?

Well move over Dud, an AGA-T has just taken your spot in my Gen line up. I tried twisting 32 awg nichrome like CrashTest22 shows in this video, I didn't have to even adjust the coils, I used existing wick and got 1.7 ohms with 6/7 wrap. What's that I hear? Oh the Dud wants some too.

I don't want you folks to think that I think that I'm an expert at this. I think at best that I'm about half way there to building it to where it really works to it's potential,

I'm pretty comfortable with the quality and performance of my builds. But I'm not fast. I can't build one in 10 minutes, like some folks. I'm more slow and meticulous. But that's pretty much how I do everything.

Hey, you surely know the old saying, haste makes waste.
I'm 60 now so every thing goes slower except time.
Other than little pieces of a toy remote control telescopic antennae and tooth picks (of coarse the usual tools) one of my most used tools is one of those 4" magnifying glass with the round bulb around it type lamps, I would be totally lost without it.

Well tried another wick and same issue.

Not sure what mesh count came with my dud but I think my issue is wicking. The wick will get soaked but juice won't drop from it while turned on its side. On videos I've seen it looks like juice will eventually drop from the end.

Can't seem to get this wicking action ... even with a straw like wick.

The fill plug is out isn't it, some of the builders are able to get them working ok with the plug in but not any of mine will do it.

Why would tilting the top of the wick toward the center post mute flavor?

Rule62...there can't be any tension in the coil for it to vape perfectly....if you pull the top lead so that the wick tilts towards the center there will be tension on the top coil. Do you think the vape from your builds are as warm as a carto or as flavorful? I bet they taste very clean and nice but they aren't as warm as a carto I bet. Can you vape at six watts and get 2x the vapor of a mini nova and have a very nice warm and rich vape using 32g kanthal? To be honest with you I am just starting to get really perfect coils...but when I do...it is unmistakable....the flavors are extraordinary...the vape is warm....and you can vape at 6watts and produce unbelievable vapor. The perfect coil can be vaped at 6watts or at 12 watts without burning the throat. I can't believe how responsive 32g kanthal can be when set up right....and I am doing only 4 wraps.

Try this....bore out one of your DUD wick holes to 7/64 inch. It is easy to do....just take your time and be patient .....don't use a lot of pressure or you will break your drill bit. Us the same drill bit for your next build....kink the leads. Then compare the build to your current setups...let me know how you like it. I really think it is far superior to a stock DUD.

PS make your wick ticker as well don't use one of your old wicks.

No, I can't say that I can vape at the same wattage as I would with a Vivi. With a DiD clone, it's somewhat higher. But I believe it's due to the heat sink property of the ss wick, as opposed to silica. I use 7/64 wicks in my AGA-Ts, and I don't find that the extra 1/64 provides any noticeable advantage over the 3/32 wicks I use in the DiD clones.

Its not the wick thikness that makes the difference...it is the fact that the edge of the wick almost becomes lined up with the edge of the top screws. The SS does act like a heat sink...but when you make your wraps with no tension you can vape at very low wattage...and the taste and responsiveness of the coil greatly improves. I can easily slide out my wick and do dry burns....you can't do that if there is tension in the coils. Bore out the hole and use this video to make you next coil with the 7/64 drill bit:
LavaGen - YouTube

Skip to the 5 minute mark.

It is easy to do and compare it with your current builds and let me know what you think.

Do you all find that on certain juices you have to lower the wattage more with the gen than on other devices?

My mini and dud are at the same resistance and I prefer my new Ecto-1 blend at 8 watts which works fine on the mini. With my dud however I have to go down to 7 watts or else I get burnt tastes.

My mesh seems to wick fine but perhaps its just not wicking fast enough.

Is your Nova head stock, or have you re-coiled it with kanthal?

A stock Nova head uses Nichrome.

Kanthal and Nichrome have different heating properties and can affect flavor for some people.

Atm I'm using a stock head on my mini.

Since yesterday I am totally digging my geny now. Not because of flavor or vapor but because of the boost in nicotine delivery. (flavor is broken in now though)

Can it get any better than a few geny hits in the morning? What a boost!
