I finally got my Protege today for 510 atomizer, Thanks to the people in PS!!
The unit is awesome and finally i can use the regular Li-Ion battery!

I notice when i screw in the atomizer onto the Protege adapter, the atomizer is not sitting flush/recess fully with the adapter. From the side, i still could see the intake holes from the atomizer. Though, it not a problem electrically as it still work and current still pass thru', but cosmetically, it doesn't look pleasant.
However, from all the review pictures and youtube video, all of the atomizer sitting flush with the Protege adapter. Did i get a quality issue Protege or is this normal? If it's normal, why does most of the review pictures show fully inserted, where you can't see the intake holes from the 510 atomizer. New design?

Regards,

Hey Nizee ...

That's normal. We *used* to furnish flush adapters, the problem being, not all atomizers are built alike. There were some 510 atomizers that simply wouldn't reach the center post. Thus, we exaggerated the center post a bit (5 thousandths), so 100% of 510 atomizers (both joye and non joye products) would work.

Over time, the atomizer will seat a little bit and the gap will get a bit smaller. I prefer the draw on the extended center post type adapter, over the non extended version.

Hope that helps answer you question :)

Thanks for the prompt reply CaSHMeRe.

There's like solid 1mm gap there!! Its eye catching, everytime i pick it up, i notice that 8-o
You think if i buy the clone atomizer it will sit flush? Where can i get it?

Do you sell the flush adapter? Can i order that or replace it?

Yea I notice that gap every time I pick mine up also. The adapter for my Prodigy sits flush and the Protege does not. It works fine but the air flow is a little light for my likings. Is there a way to adjust the center pin Steve? Take it out and sand a little off of it? Or would I not get a good seat when I press it back in?

I find the same thing with my 510 Janty Dura atty's and don't have any SLB's to try and see if there is a difference.

I'd prefer "cosmetically" and "functionally" if it were flush myself. I just find it too airy a draw and to much leakage with the holes exposed that much.

On a good note, it does still work very well..... just an annoyance is all.

Heres the fix for the wobbly/loose adaptor + it will fix the gap issue as well.. well make it smaller ;) Should be stickied!

Remove the cap from the Protege. My adaptor is loose from the cap and comes off no problem. Some may be tight but if your is loose like mine heres a great way to make it perfect.

Now follow closely.. Remove the adaptor from the cap. Turn the cap upside down. Now place the adaptor inside the cap with the atty connection facing up.

Now take a strong thin object.. a pen prob would work.. i used the first thin tool i found which was my thin metal file. I used the thin end. Place it on the center pin as shown. You could either tap it in or just push down on it. Eventually the center pin will push down or totally pop out (which happend to me this time around hehe). No harm if it does.. just push it back in a little.

What you want is the center pin out of the way so it wont touch the atty when you screw the atty back on the adaptor. So now screw it back on the atty as shown. Screw the atty on nice and tight so the gap between the adaptor/atty is as small as possable.

Now, stand the atty up as shown in the pic. Place the same strong object against the pin and push down or tap it back down. Now the center pin should be making perfect contact with the adaptor. Now unscrew the atty from the adaptor and place the adaptor back in the cap.Screw the cap back on your protege and now attach your atty and test.

Heres a pic with a TW 510 atty installed.. And the 2nd one i'm using a athentic joye 510 atty. Both will still have a tiny gap but its much better then it was before. Helps firm up the draw and not be so airy.

I suggest everyone buy these TrustFire 14500 900mAh 3.7v protected batteries. There a little longer then the Tenergy 14500 batteries but thats a good thing. Reason being is that it will make the connection between the switch housing/adaptor nice and tight. If you have a wiggly adaptor or loose as in your atty just freely turns with the adaptor, this will fix the problem. Without the longer battery the adaptor pin will push the pin down on the switch and it will have a weak connection or no connection. And ofcourse the adaptor will wobble or worse you cant take your atty off without removing the cap so you can hold the adaptor.

My Protege has been totally solid since using the longer trustfire protected batteries and thats since Oct 30th.

Heres a picture of the Trustfire Battery next to the Tenergy non protected 14500 you can buy from Puresmoker.com. I think they need to supply the Trustfire batts.

I consider it a plus. Better draw and if I over drip it doesn't get into the unit. ;-) and no staple mod needed here either! Works just fine.

No prob flooding on this Pretege. If you do it will just leak around the top of the cap. The center pin is basicly sealed so it has nowhere else to go in the top of the cap.

You will potentially unseal the adapter to cap seal. This will cause leaks from the cap to the inside of the Protege switch area.

I'm sorry but I don't endorse any modifications to a protege right now. All Protege's are covered by the manufactures warranty. If someone performs the action you describe it may void the warranty. If you have a problem with your Protege contact PS and get them to correct the problem. Don't modify the unit yourself.

I dont think this will void the warrenty at all.. Hell Casey and Steve have told people on many of times to move the pin on the adaptor/switch to make better contact with the atty in the past.

Nothing is being changed or modified. Just making sure its got a solid connection.

A question for those electrically-smart peeps who hang out here.

I bought some of the TrustFire batteries suggested on Ebay. Maybe somebody said this, but I can't find it: Can these be charged in the same Tenergy Multifunctional Charger that's used for the Tenergy 14500 batteries? I didn't get a new charger. Thinking maybe I should? Better ask before I blow sumthin' up.

If PS does not endorse the modification, will PS sell the adapter that sit flush while still make good contact? We need PS to provide this options.

I'm not use feeling light when i use the Protege. You have to top off the liquid often or you be sucking air rather then the liquid. I smoke fast and often. I've to go slow and my current Protege i've to wind some cotton string to restrict some of the intake to my liking. You don't have the luxury of slow smoking all the times, especially in a car, walking down the street, etc....
And my $100+ protege looks ugly now! Can't believe i've to do this.

Yes it will work with the new batteries.. I know cause i too have the same Tenergy charger from puresmoker. On the back it will say what models of batteries it can be used for and it shows the 14500.. also says can be used with other manufacturers batteries of the same model.

Charged mine crap loads of times so your good to go!

If restricting more air flow is what you want to do, then you should drop your center post, though this could cause some compatibility issues with diff type of atty's.

I would check with PS on that first though.

You are more than welcome to try and adjust the center post guys... Be VERY VERY Careful though ...

The reason the center post on the 510 is a bit long, is because we used to actually make them flush. I would say roughly 30% of 510 atomizers however, simply wouldn't make contact. We adjusted it and made it longer to accommodate this ...
