You may not be missing anything, and that's fine, not everything works for everyone so it's great to have all the choices!
I still like a mechanical, I like my Provari better, yes, but when it failed on me and I had to send it in for repair, I had to rethink mechanical's.
But I'm old school so going back to that style of vaping wasn't hard for me. I like 1.7 to 1.8 ohm carto's or drippers and can run a day on an 18650 easily. I don't notice the voltage drop that much until it hits 3.6 or lower. You can also short charge your batteries and just bring them up to 4v then you don't get as much drop. But as I said, I don't notice it that much.
I don't sub ohm vape, don't see much point in it, anything I've done below 1.5ohms has cooked my juice and it tastes like burnt .... to me!
Like I say, it's not for everyone and it's great there are so many options out so everyone can find what works for them, unlike back when I started, you had a cig-alike or a Chuck!

When I started vaping I was the least interested in mechs and drippers. To quit a 2 pack a day habit I tried all sorts of different things to find MY perfect vape. Right now a few months later, I'm sitting at my desk with a Poldiac under an IGO-W at .9 ohm. 3/32" air hole, the vape has a hint of warmth but not hot by any means. The panasonic 2900 mah 18650 that I put in this morning will be at about 3.8 volts when I get home and put it on the charger. All of the aforementioned problems arent problems. Why a mech mod? Cuz I created my perfect vape.

I kinda miss my Chuck... ah the ole days. :)

I still have my BB, I need to pick up some new batteries for it, these are pretty weak anymore! Then I have my "Hang over helper mints" tin mod, which is just perfect for an evening at the bar! Then I picked up a Legacy, still need to order some spares while they still have them in stock, for it.

Quick question, I just made a .5ohm dual coil with my rda and I get what you guys are saying with it not being 40watts hot and it's actually pretty good. (Don't know how long the battery will last, time will tell) but is it normal for the fire button in the bottom of my k100 empire mod to get hot? I take the battery out and it's not hot but just curious as to why the button is getting pretty toasty. Am I in danger? I like my face! Lol

I acknowledge that there are appealing reasons for going mech: dc, durability, customizability, affordability (some of those mods and clones are very inexpensive!), DIY hobbying aspect, etc.

Nonetheless, I was only ever a 1/2 pack/day smoker so I've never felt like a vv mod and a clearomizer were inadequate to my needs. Ultimately, fiddling around with customizing a mech and tank to achieve the perfect vape are not appealing to me. For me its about diminishing returns I guess because all I need is a good enough vape to keep me from smoking and I can easily achieve that with a vv mod and fiddling a bit with, say, a stock tank and juices.

What battery do you have in there? That's around 7.5 amps at 30ish watts!

depends on the mod, I do not know the k100 but the current/heat will concentrate in the smallest, thinnest contact point. the current travels through the whole body of the mod which is a lot of surface area to heat up. but the pin is what 1-2 mm wide? and at high wattage there is a lot of current flowing through that tiny area.

the weakest link so to speak, will be where the heat shows first.

I have 2 Mechs, a K100 and a Bolt. I got them for the simplicity and durability. Also, in my occupation I have to go through strict security screening every day. It's easier explaining something similar to a flashlight as opposed to something more seemingly complicated that might appear more sinister to many. So I have them for that and that alone, because I have no interest in building anything for it, I don't even like to drip. Just use use various clearos.

Outside of work.......well I have my new favorite, the MVP. I have an SVD too for periodic home use. Or when I feel like reenacting scenes from Star Wars :)
