Just thinking about this, & kind of bummed that no one in the USA can make a simple mass marketed ce2 clearomiser like a Vision.

Why do those things have to be imported from China? They look very simple to make: wires, a coil, cloth wicks & casing.

Yes, I know theres "mods" around, but they are specialty items & few are made at a time, & waits for them are very common (eg: Provari, Jonboy Lava tubes, Reo etc).

Or the eGo batteries? Why are they imported from China? What is wrong with the USA?

We need to manufacture here, in the USA.

Sorry, had to vent, this is crazy economics.

The problem is not endemic to e-cigarettes exclusively, it has to do with manufacturing in general. E-cigs just fall under the category of "manufactured things" and the way the economy and politics is currently set up, it's cheaper for a US entrepreneur to have product manufactured overseas because of the cheap labor. E-cigs are no different. The only way that it IS different is that it's an item that was actually invented by a Chinese entrepreneur, not a US one. Most product R&D happen in the US and mostly western countries, but most of the labor is carried out in the 3rd world.

A free market economy companies compete against each other. Consumers want to buy products for a little as possible. If a company can pay less for product they can sell it for less. The Chinese manufacture products for much less money. All in all the supplier here in the US that can offer the cheapest price on product will win. Would you pay $40 for a simple 180mah sized battery?

honestly if something from the good ole US of A costs a tiny bit more then im all for it. Figuritive speaking, cant spell. If I were to go bu a car battery from china that cost 50 buck or and american one for 65 I will buy the american one. I am all for keeping jobs here, not there. Not racist at all. I just hate seeing people everyday laidoff because there compant saved 5 bucks to have someone in china do it. Im sorry if a job is worth 15 an hour and you get someone to do it for 2 dollars you wont get the same product. QC over there sucks.IMO

Actually it is capitalism at it's finest, it is like water, will always run downhill toward the lowest cost for raw materials, supplies and labor so they can make a profit. Years ago I used to work in electronics, parts all came from Malasia (sp) back then and we assembled them in the US. Since this was years ago, I am guessing all parts are now from China and assembled in China as well. So that's capatilism, we love it but it hurts! LOL bnrk

Very true. They need to realize, however, that with each purchase they are "selling off" their standard of living. On the other hand you can't maintain a closed system because eventually you will sell the worst product for the highest price. Everything is a balance and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. It usually balances out eventually. It's the wild pendulum swings that mess everything up.

If there was a manufacturer in USA which started to dig deep into the profits of big tobacco it would magically get shut down.

First, it has nothing to do with Big Tobacco. They could care less about vaping and are not against it. In fact, they are hoping the govenment backs off so they can get into the business. It is the Big Pharmaceutical companies that are spending big money to get vaping banned because it cuts into their big, but doesn't work, NRT business.

Second, all atomizers and cartomizers are hand made in China. How many Americans would be willing to work for minimum wage (or less if possible) to spend 8 hours a day putting together cartomizers and atomizers by hand??? Hardly any.

And when the cost of your American made attys/cartos shot up to $20 or more each, what would we be reading on this forum? There would be an out-cry of how over priced they are. We already get multiple posts on ECF about Mods like the Provari and Darwin which are made in the US being WAY OVER PRICED. Too many in this country have become whiny, spoiled complainers.

Our stores are filled with cheap Chinese made products because that is what WE want and we vote with our wallets.

Actually volcano is a US based company. Now its not a name brand eGo battery per say but some fo their bats are pretty much the same thing.

They're exactly the same thing... Volcano doesn't manufacture anything, just rebrand it. If you order sufficient quantities, they'll put whatever brand on the side of it you want.

I wish someone would make/invent/ in US a carto that is truely refillable with a heat coil at bottom and a filler type thingy that you just take out and replace. I keep thinking of how to do that. A replacebale coil too is possible if it gets burned up. Like unscrew the bottom of the carto and if coil needs replaced you can do it. Then the filler is a replaceable piece with the hole in middle, just toss it when it gets too crumby. This seems just too easy not to have it available. Anyone handy??? bnrk

I just got a really fine "German" knife...a Puma...all parts made in Germany...then shipped to China for assembly and then shipped here to be sold at a very good price...the same economics apply to our gear...I gotta say, while looking and admiring this very nice knife and considering it's "carbon footprint"...it made me shudder.......
