Why should I wash my atomizer before usage?

Submerge in vodka for what duration? Then air or blow dry?
There are dozens of ways different people advocate for cleaning an atomizer.
And there are also a few ways different people advocate for drying them afterwards.

I clean my atomizers with a coke bath followed by a distilled water bath.
I'm guessing vodka is better if you're simply trying to get the primer off.
I imagine everclear is even better, if you can get it.

Some people use vinegar, some also use citric acid.
Search for "cleaning atomizers" and you should get plenty of information.

As for drying, I just leave mine draining overnight

Some people put them in the oven at 150 degrees for about 20 minutes.
Some people used compressed air, and some people tell you not to.
Some people use hair dryers.

Some people just blow them out and run with it.

I don't know if anyone knows what that primer fluid is but I have suspicions that it could be some kind of machining fluid or oil. Whatever it is, it tastes awful and I don't want to vape it....so I always wash mine out first with some vodka.

what a load of boll-cks pete.. the priming fluid is just ordinary e smoking fluid.. it might not be to everyones taste but that is all it is.. there is nothing special about it at all..

its there for a simple reason an atomizer will not work without it.. the wire wool stuff and the sump at the bottom of the atomizer holds as much fluid or nearly as much as the cart does..

the factory simply adds some fluid to get the process going and to test the atomizer.. the cart just tops up what is in the wire wool..

there is no such thing as priming fluid whoever came up with the term sure created something... he he

at the risk of offending some.. this place gets worse for myths and nonsense..

Well I expect you are right but I really don't know why it tastes so bad if it is just ordinary juice. I know that part isn't nonsense or a load of ....ks..............Oh and there is something about the taste that reminds me a lot of when I used to use a lathe with the white machining coolant, I have forgotten the name of it now. So whatever it is I shall wash them out and not worry about it.

its odd but i get to test puff on a lot more new atomizers than most and its never tasted bad to me.. just like the fluid that comes in the carts which is whatever comes in them.. in our case regular mostly.. mind you what regular is supposed to taste like i have no idea.. its certainly not bad or nasty..

so as to whats boll-cks and whats aint boll-cks on that score its hard to say.. he he he

i do know auto-suggestion is a powerful thing... he he.. if folks expect it to taste bad and think its machine oil it might well taste like machine oil..

mind you this entire e cig thing is loaded with psychosomatic stuff.. its quite clear folks believe that what they feel.. taste.. and smell is real.. but is it... he he

Reminds me freshman year at PSU when I heard a bunch of kids gave a girl a gummy bear and said it was laced with "something" and she started acting like she was "buzzed." Suffice to say, it was regular gummy bears .... LOL

Well I know for sure I am not prone to auto-suggestion and not every atomizer I have had has that bad taste ...I have found it mostly tends to be the penstyle ones that come in sealed bags. So I wash them 'all' simply to be on the safe side....and there is nothing wrong with playing it safe. What other people do is entirely up to them.

Oh and trogg I hope you are testing all those atties with your own mouthpiece.......:)

The bad taste of some new atomizers isn't any new myth (just check some early threads). And auto suggestion doesn't have anything to do with newbies who report the 'nasty taste' of their ecigs who don't even know what an atomizer is, let alone that it would have a shipping/testing fluid on it.

Not all atomizers have such a taste, but some do. If it's actually a vaping fluid then it's a flavor I've never sampled :) I suspect that it is a fluid merely to keep the atomizer from drying out and made specifically for that.

when nicrome is first used it puts out a gaseous smoke. I can't imagine its good for ya. Im not too sure if its oil from machines. I just know this about nicrome since i've played around with a lot of plastic cutters in my day. The new ones always smoked like hell when they were first heated up.

Then again it could be a protective oil to keep from oxidizing during non usage.

I just puff on it for 15 min without inhaling. im sure there are better methods. I myself have never tried cleaning an atomizer.

I believe nichrome is highly resistant to oxidization, so it probably doesn't need a protective oil film but I have never seen how wire is made... perhaps oil is used during the process of making it into a wire.

I think the whole "auto-suggestion" thing is nonsense in this case. I got my first e-cig a few weeks ago, and on my first puff I noticed the awful primer taste.

I had no idea what this was, so I came here and asked, and that's how I learned it was primer. I wasn't expecting an awful taste on my first puff, I was expecting something wonderful like I hear all over the forums.

Needless to say, I was pointed in the right direction. All I did was soak my attys overnight in water, and blew them out in the morning. They were perfect after that.

To further combat the point, when I got my 901 kit a week ago, I just started puffing away on it to see what the draw was like. I was fully expecting the awful primer taste, but it just wasn't there.

I don't know if it's normal e-cig juice, but I can tell you that it smells terrible and tastes terrible. I hope that nobody would ever buy juice in "primer" flavor. :)

Exactly my point. And you, by no means, aren't the only one.

When I pulled my first atomizer (RN4081) out of the box and attached it to my first cartridge and took my first drag, it tasted like the most horrific, nasty metallic taste imaginable. It was absolutely putrid, and I put it away for a few hours.

I am willing to believe that the issue was that I was tasting dry atomizer burn multiplied by 100 times.

If my atomizer had zero fluid in it and I stuck a cartridge on and started dragging immediately without letting any fluid wick up whatsoever, yeah, that might be exactly what it would taste like.

I am also willing to believe it was some sort of primer fluid.
