Why smoke PG if there's VG?

Chalk it up as an ignorant newbie, but I'm super disappointed I just spent $30 on some mostly PG liquids. Not only do they all taste the same chemical taste, but I knew better after seeing the MSDS on PG. (really just did it because joyetech recommended it with my new eGo purchase for wicking's sake, but my 100% VG wicks just fine!)

On top of that, there's no comparison in vapor production- my VG wins triple. So, why is PG so common, I'm really curious!?

It's also much easier to work with because of its consistency. PG does not have any bad flavor--I vape unflavored eliquids often, either 100% PG or a PG/VG mix, and I actually like them. If your juice tastes nasty, it's most likely the flavorings or nicotine, which has a rather strong peppery taste, especially at higher concentrations.

Tacoma Wa,
Yeah VG has no throat hit at all.
And for me if the vapor has no throat hit.. I would go back to smoking.
And the 100% VG ones i have tried have no real flavor.

And i figure PG is ok to inhale heated vapor being all air fresheners contain PG that is heated and inhaled from the air.
So if it's bad, then most people would have problems I think.

Not sure what the MSDS you referenced is, but I do know that PG is a) thinner, b) the primary flavoring agent carrier for most food flavorings in the market. I have had a few problems with 100% VG wicking properly at first in my eGo-T with A tanks/atty, but if I prime the atty and give it a few minutes, it seems to work out just fine.

However, tastes vary widely. My experience with 100% VG juices is that, to me, they have absolutely no flavor at all. I tried a handful from a vendor, wondering if perhaps that would be my best option, and nope, it definitely isn't. Right now, it's looking like either 40%PG/60%VG or 30%PG/70%VG is my optimal preference, because then I get good, rich flavor and a lot of vapor, too.

Wouldn't buy a mostly-PG liquid if I could avoid it, though. It needs a blend, in my opinion, for optimal vapor and flavor. However, by the same token, I wouldn't buy all-VG again unless I found something far superior flavor-wise to what I've already tried. Everyone's tastes are different, though.

Never tried PEG-400, but is that a suitable thinning agent ?

It's controversial, at best. I wouldn't use it.

VG is usually cut with PG, distilled water or vodka in order to make it vapable.

PG has also been tested and used in the past in asthma inhalers, for instance. I feel it's safe.

As others stated, it's a better mix for flavorings. And, I will add: VG is sweet, so if you have a juice flavor you don't want to be a little sweet, then you can't use VG.

I've been moving to VG juices recently. I have developed a minor sensitivity to PG. I can vape a little PG here and there without issue, but I can't vape it constantly.

I'll mention some 100% VG and some High VG juices that produce good throat hit below my other response.

Yeah VG has no throat hit at all.

Depends on the juice. AVE seems to have mastered delivering adequate throat hit with 100% VG juices. Massive Choco Mint, 555, and Bobas Bounty (in that order, IMHO) all produce very acceptable TH.

Madvapes TopVapor Spearmint and TopVapor Caramel Tobacco are both 80% VG (the other 20% filled with their base flavorings and presumably PG) are just a couple of their high VG juices that deliver a great TH.

I recently tried Vanilla Tobacco from COV. It's another 100% VG juice that delivers decent TH. I didn't get a big enough bottle to run it through its paces in different attys and cartos of different ohms at different voltages, but so far, I'm very fond of it in a 1.8 ohm boge carto at 3.7v, in s 2.0 ohm 306 at 3.7v, and in a 2.0 ohm hh357 at 4.3v with my vvpv. It gives a nice throat hit through each of those devices.

I can't vape 100% VG, NO THROAT HIT. I'm a sucker for throat hit, got my setup with 80/20 PG/VG, I've had no problems. I know some people are allergic, which must absolutely suck. If I was allergic, I'd likely go back to smoking. But it's great to see that people keep on vapin'.

If you think VG liquids have no throat hit than i must ask...what VG liquids have you tried?

VG throat hit > PG throat hit any day of the week

VG gives a full throat hit. You don't just feel it on the inhale...you feel it in your lungs and coming out. PG is just a harsh burn with a tiny poof of vapor to follow.

All i vape is 100%VG @ 18mg btw.

Since I have started I have used only 100% VG. The best I tried is the Virgin Vapor's which is not thick. And the flavor... the best I tasted. But I cannot compare with PG as I have never tried it, I am on 100% VG since day one. Only I wanted to let you know that I have seen many types of VG, and not all of them are thick.

I've been suffering with a head cold the past day, and I thought I wanted to vape some straight menthol to see if it would help open me up. Normally I DIY most of my juices, and try to stay at about a 50 to 80% VG range. I like lots of vapor.

I mixed up 3 ml of some strong menthol with pure VG. (I say pure, but all my VG is pre-thinned by me as soon as I bring it home; I thin with distilled water.) It had almost NO flavor; you could only detect a hint of coolness.

After reading these posts, I took 3 ml of PG and did the same thing with menthol. WOW! Almost couldn't vape it; the flavor in PG was many times stronger than in VG. But, almost no lingering vapor. The pure VG would give huge clouds of vapor, almost too much. The PG had some vapor immediately after the hit, but the vapor would not stay around and I would exhale almost nothing.

Healthwise, I have no problems with either one. VG does seem to create more throat phlegm than PG though. But after trying the above experiment, I think I am going to have to go back more toward the beginning of DIY (carrying knowledge along with me) and rethink the way I am using my flavors.

+1 on all this. I vape 95% or higher vg at 12mg. VG has a different kind of throat hit. PG is harsh and chemically, VG has an almost solid feel. If you're not getting good throat hit with VG up your wattage, I'll guarantee you'll find some kick then.

Tastes obviously vary....but I am in the 100% VG camp.

I too, found that I had a sensitivity to PG-(it took me a month of a sore throat and breakouts to figure it out.) In addition- I don't find the PG based juices satisfying. In my humble opinion-(as I always say, opinions are like ***holes, we've all got one! ) ...and to reiterate something already mentioned, if you dont get a good TH from your VG juice, re-evaluate your vendor. (I'm still pretty new to vaping, yet Ive collected a small museum of juices in the past month of different vg/pg ratios from different vendors ...theres a few in below pic)
a few juices.jpg

My all VG favorites are AVE...(the tobacco flavors/Bobas Bounty etc) and Mountain Vapors (Turkish).

Happy trails.:)

If you are a carto user like I am you cant use high VG as it doesnt wick well at high concentrations and you end up scorching your carto.
I have vaped nearly 100% VG with no PG and love the huge clouds of vapor but taste gets nasty after awhile.
I have a bottle of 85% VG, 15% distilled water I use to prime my cartos. I'll put several drops of that mix into a carto 24 hours before I want to start using it. That gives it plenty of time to soak in. Then I add my 75/25 pg/vg flavored mix. Tastes great + big clouds of vapor.
