That was an excellent quote of Harplyr, MrOutlaw.

I happen to agree with you fully on the virtues of starting with a Volt or cigarette style battery. All those mods or flashy variable voltage batteries bigger than a fat cigar... if I'd tried to start with that, I wouldn't have made it. I'm still using, and probably will use for as long as I vape, my Volt batteries.

By the way, if that lady you were talking to needs a Volt battery to try... well, you know the drill. ;)

omg - the editor wants me to add another 10 characters?????

I sent her a couple of 510 ce3 and a bottle of 11 mg juice till she gets her order from altsmoke.

You are awesome Kia

Most people are well intentioned, but it's always easier to move up than it is to move down. And when you move down, you usually go to the bottom, which are analogs. I wish people on the main forums would realize that 90% of people who switch to e cigs have no interest in mods, vv, etc. They just want to not smoke anymore. They don't want to explain, they just want to easily replace one thing with another very similar. I always point people to SI, show them the x2's and tell them this is where I am. But I started with something like this, and show them SI's starter kits.

I've been vaping on and off for about a year, 5 days straight right now analog free. I was lucky I have coworkers who vape and let me try one of their 510's. They pointed me to an online store where I looked at stuff then I started googling, coworkers were still there to answer questions. Thankfully I found ECF before I bought anything the front pages alone are a God send, that's where I learned the basics of even how to take a drag off of a carto. I was also lucky that I have a brick in mortar vape store next town over. The guy only sells one brand of juice and 808's he can be an ... sometimes about which flavors of juice he wants to carry but he was helpful and because of him I got my first starter kit and a great juice company. As others have said I want to stop smoking but I want to feel like I'm still smoking and yeah I don't wanna walk around with either a salami or the space shuttle hanging outta my mouth. I will say everyone on ECF is always helpful, but as a novice it was nice to see someone like outlaw understand what I was looking for which is I wanna see my juice and have gear that I can put into my pocket and not need a rolling luggage case to carry everything around in. I'm going to get some X2's once the CE3's are back in stock then I'll be good to go for awhile. I see this all as a way to quit smoking still use some great juice to feel like I'm still smoking but I also see myself to maybe getting more gear once I really understand things more but to be honest I should be fine with some X2's, but hey I'm a chick who works in tech who likes her toys :)

I started with a Riva 510, but quickly grew tired of the old fashioned cartridges. That's when I started really reading on ECF and found SI. I used my 808 volts for months. I did venture over to another 808 company that had tanks to use with their 808's. I really liked being able to see how much juice I had left. Then when SI came out with the X2 and clearos, I came back here. I also own a twist. As far as nicotine levels, I've been on 18 mg. for over a year now, and I do chain vape when I'm not at work. I smoked a PAD, sometimes a few more. I've never had headaches from vaping, but do get dehydrated if I don't drink enough. I don't want to disagree with anyone above, but I do think some of us need higher nic levels. I'm afraid if I don't get enough nic, I'll be back on analogues! Every body is different-listen to what your's is telling you!

SWEET HOME ALABAMA
I'm in a very similar situation. I'm very new to vaping (about 2 weeks) so I know almost nothing about it. I ordered a starter kit from another company but wasn't happy with it. I'm having headaches too which I attribute to the nicotine being too high in the cartomizers compared to an analong cigarette.

I would smoke about 10 analogs a day from about 5pm to 11pm. I had been vaping a lot on the 12 mg cartomizers and I think that may be too much for the way that I vape.

Realizing that I just got Volt starter kit today and I can tell they are much much better then the company I first went with. The thing I'm having a very hard time with is how much nicotine I need. I'm thinking around 6 mg. That's the part that is confusing me and I wish the headache I get from the e-cigs would go away.

Being pretty new I also ordered a 30 ml bottle in 12 mg of the 555 juice. I like the flavor but I'm not sure if that's too much nicotine. Didn't mean to hijack this thread with this but I'm just a little confused with the whole thing right now. Any advice would be much appreciated.

FOR PEOPLE GETTING HEADACHES: I have been vaping for a little over 1 year and have tried them all....PG WAS THE CAUSE
OF MY HEADACHES ....YES PG !!!! I vape all VG and thin it with water (.5%) or just the flavorings. The only time I get the headaches now is when I am trying a new vender or I put more than 15-20% flavoring in my DIYing. Most flavorings are made of PG so I have to be careful what % I am using.
Yes too much Nic can do it too but with the headache you also get sick to your stomach, thats how I know when I have been vaping too much or using higher than 18mgs. I smoked a pack a day of NewPorts (strong) and I cant go above 18-20mg juices or I will get sick to my stomach and real shaky.
Just my :2c:

I could write volumes of analogies on vaping to other hobbies. Hunting, fishing, golfing, racing ... they all come down to a common thread. Most people when starting off need to ease themselves in. Will you "waste" some money in the beginning? Yes, if you look at it as wasting.

When I got my mustang, I knew I wanted to hit the strip with it. But, if I had listened to "some" and went full on with forced induction, a built motor, complete shock/ride kit, full exhaust, headers ... yikes. I would have spent, and I mean no hyperbole here, upwards of 10 grand on my car. I instead, thanks to a nice guy on the forums, took baby steps and worked my way up to a place where I felt the car was fast enough, but still a daily driver.

I think the biggest mistake made is that people want to try and help new people skip what they think are mistakes. They want to help them move on to what they feel is the best. They forget however, that they learned very crucial things in their infancy in vaping that helped shape their opinions. Learning about the differences between carts, clearos, tanks, etc. Understanding what the different voltages do to vaping. Ohms....wicking ... dry hits ... nic levels. I mean seriously the list goes on and on. The transition phase from analogs to vaping is a very delicate one. Making the leap to big mods, variable voltage, tanks and so on are too much of a shock and quite inundating to a new user.

Keep it simple from the beginning and let them make their own choices on upgrading. As long as they are vaping, discovering the wonders of being off of analogs and fighting the urge to go back, they will make their own path in the vaping world.

I think that's probably the biggest key, the KISS principle, applies to everything in life, but there's always a "veteran" or and "expert" aroung to tell the newbie what the "only true way" is. I think one of the things influcing the "experts" is their own experiences with older, less improved so-called minis. Witha CE3 a 78mm can produce just as much vapor as a tank system from what I see. As far as changing CE3s, cartos or batteries, for that matter, what's the big deal? We all kept a pack of smokes, and maybe a spare pack as well, in our pocket or purse along with a lighter of some sort and thought nothing of getting out another cigarette and lighting up. So changing a battery or carto is a big deal? I think not.

Nicotine levels are another problem though. I'm using 18mg usually and have just started a CE3 with 11mg in it and don't feel any different, so I may drop my own level next time I order liquid. I got my exwife to try a Volt, she was using a gas station e-cig with a patch. I started her out with 18mg based on my own experience and knowing how she smoked. I checked up on her last night and she's doing fine, even stopped using a nicotine patch. SI and Volt came through again. Now if I can get my son and daughter converted I'll feel I really accomplished something.

I switched from analogs over 2 years ago and started at 24mg thinking I would need it as I was a 1 1/2 PAD smoker. I quickly dropped to 18mg and stayed there until last month when I stepped down to 11mg. I do vape more but I really enjoy it more because I never get the headaches or nausea and am not wired when I go to bed at night.

I have spent the last hour emailing with a woman who was sold an ego twist with 1.5ohm cartos and 24 mg nic juice as a first device. She only smoked 10-15 analogs a day.

Nows she's back on analogs because after sending another $150 on juice, she can't find a juice that tastes good and keeps getting severe headaches.

Well no wonder why, the lowest watts she can go is 6.82, her nic level is insane for a person who only smoked 10-15 analogs and she has no idea of what's shes doing.

THIS IS WHY THE SI VOLT IS A GREAT PLACE TO START.

Sorry to yell, but this is aggravating. This poor woman wanted a Volt kit but she was talked out of it in the new members forum because someone told her you will never quit with a mini ecig. Now she's spent $250 on vape gear and is back on analogs.

So I have spent the last hour helping her find a lower level nic juice and the right clearos. She can't afford a new kit, so hopefully, using 2.6-2.8ohm ce3 with 11mg nic juice will get her on the right track. She was convinced that she's just not a good candidate for vaping.

SI starts you off right. They have the perfect combination of volts to ohms for a new vaper. Please make sure you stop by the new members forum and tell newbies that you can quit analogs with a mini.

You are so right, Mroutlaw. As a newbie, I got talked into buying a KGO kit and LR cartos. I ended up donating them to a Reverend who works with homeless people. I was a pretty heavy smoker, but I smoked light 100s. One puff of LR on a kgo sent me into coughing spasms...way too much for me. Volt is just right.

I've tried suggesting Volt in the New Members forum. VV proponents can get rather aggressive sometimes, if you know what I mean.

Mr Outlaw, you are one fantastic dude, know that !?

It was in January this year that a friend of mine told me about e-cigs for the first time. He had seen them being used in the movie "The Tourist". He didn't know anything about them, just making chit chat about them, but me, currently 20 years old, smoking a pack a day since I was 12, was really interested.

And since I am a huge technology nerd, and just LOVE unboxing & review videos, I started studying, and I mean studying harder than I ever have at school, learning everything I could about e-cigs.

The first company I found ( probably to nobody's surprise ) was Blu.
It looked so great, the cigarette pack style PCC, delicious flavors, perfect for a beginner, right ? Well, before ordering that, I went on youtube... And there was not a single positive review !
Then I went on to investigate the FLOOD of companies that sell cigarette style e-cigs.

I can't really remember how I stumbled onto Smokeless Image, but they were the company I went with on first try, thank GOD !

The only mistake I made was only ordering 24mg... I thought I would need that much, since I was a pack a day smoker, and also used and Icelandic tobacco called "Ruddi" that is actually put in a blunt syringe and put under the upper lip ( It's just as sexy as it sounds, people ) and that contains HEEEAAPS of nicotine.

But honestly, I think 12-18 is my perfect range... I thought the 24mg ruined the flavor & experience for me.

Although, the biggest problem is living in Iceland where the pharmacy laws somehow ban e-liq with nicotine.
And I have been active, believe me - I have sent letters to SO MANY officials... Cancer, Health, Government, anything I can think of, just asking them, why the *bleep* It is more acceptable to keep selling cigarette packs for 1000 ISK ( 9 bucks ) than it is to AT LEAST discuss e cigarettes.
This ....ing country, man...

Anyways, it has been well said many times before on this thread... The baby steps are everything... I am moving onto the X2 & Clearomizers at school & home, 78mm and CE3's when I'm out and about... I can't think of anything better.

Now, all I can do is hope my new shipment won't get seized by customs... I might just show up there with an e-cig and explain how awesome it is... ( Yeah, that'll work :p )

Thanks for the compliment, but it's not necessary.

I enjoy teaching, which is probably why I have been a volunteer umpire trainer for the last 10 years. This however, is much more rewarding. Knowing that I am helping people ditch analogs is very gratifying.

Well you're gonna have to take at least one more compliment! You're doing great work with those videos, you really make the e-cig world accessible to newcomers - helps that your favorite brand is geared towards that! - and when all is said and done, you'll probably have played a bigger part than you'll ever know in preventing smoking-related diseases in a lot of people. Your videos and SteelJan's SI vids got me onto Smokeless Image and I've loved every minute, so thanks!

I know what you mean. I have seen, seriously, some-one new post that they want a cig size pv and some-one else recommend a lavatube. I use 78mm Volts at work - well in my breaks at work - because they are not conspicuous, easy to carry and the smokers I work with have been asking me about them and are interested. While I do see photos of people's mods and admire them, I realised a couple of days ago that I admire them as ornaments. I have no interest in actually vaping from a bazooka. I've been off smoking for over 4 months now. I smoked for over 30 years and was smoking 45-50 a day. I've done it with minis. Just got my X2 today and its charging. A cool blue too. But that's for at home, and soon as I unpacked it I knew that's as big as I'll go.
BTW - thankyou for those videos. I had been using Greensmoke and your videos helped me choose a better pv, as well as nicely explaining how to use them. I really appreciate it.
