It was kinda' funny. The day I quit smoking, again, my friend came by with an ecig! I had no idea what it was, but after I tried it I went and got one. That was almost two years ago and I haven't had a cig since! And I don't want one, I enjoy vaping soo much more than smoking.
My plan was to quit vaping after a while too, but I enjoy it, and so far I haven't read any health studies that lead me to believe I should.

I hope everyone else's experiences were/are as positive as mine.

Believe it or not, my main reason for switching over to vaping wasn't as much health concerns (although the improved health is a nice benefit) as the smell. I was so self-conscious for years because I knew that regardless of how many mints I popped in my mouth after smoking, I still reeked. I'm self-employed now, but up until 3 years ago I worked in upper management in a very professional environment (the suit and tie thing) and I would have co-workers comment that I smelled like I just got back from a smoke break, when in reality I hadn't smoked in a few hours.

As far as was it what I expected.....no, vaping was even more enjoyable than I thought it would be, and made quitting the analogs much easier. :thumb:

For the children of course.

Not mine, well, not necessarily, ... For all the world's children.

I mean I started smoking cigarettes for the children as well. I smoked cigarettes to burn them up and keep them out if the hands of children.

Likewise, now I vape to prevent children from being cut by broken tanks, stabbed by Kanthal, blasted by faulty batteries, and of course, poisoned by nicotine. I have these tanks and mods in my control, I don't have to worry about this.

For the children.

:)

I did it primarily for the cost. I started out with cigalikes because I originally bought one from 711, was crappy, and didn't think about switching for two years. Then a few months ago i get a coupon for a free mark 10 cigalike, tried it, didn't like it. Then I checked this site in a google search for mark 10 and found a link to a greensmoke free trial, that I did like. Finally, I found apollo and bought a kit with some juice. Haven't looked back since.

I quit mostly to smoke (vape) indoors without smell. The health improvements were great motivation as well, and better teeth, etc, but really I enjoyed smoking, I enjoy vaping, and it makes me happy to not get self righteous people telling me how bad it is for me and acting superior. Around here just about everyone seems to know about vaping and its benefit, and more often than not are supportive.

The smell was a big reason for me to quit. My (now) wife was never a smoker so it always bothered her. A close second was the cost. I smoked a pack a day of Kamel Reds which were $5.25 a pack when I quit 4 years ago here in Idaho. I know that probably doesn't sound too bad to many of you, but to put it in perspective Marb Reds were only $4.25 a pack at that time here. A third reason was the constant flow of people asking to bum a cigarette while I was on break at work. People can ask all they want, but I'm not sharing my vape. I'll give someone a couple drops to get them through a break so they don't have to bum a CIG from someone else, but it's rare for someone to even ask. The health benefits were an extra perk that I wasn't really too concerned with at the time, but I wasn't opposed to it by any means.

Why?

What were your reasons for quitting cigarettes, and beginning vaping?

Medical issues from smoking. I wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Any expectations?

Yeah... that it would work for me as it has for others. I wanted to be a success story like most around here.

Has as it turned out the way you expected?

No, I still smoke :( I smoke less, but haven't quit yet. But I haven't given up and since I have tried every other available method and failed miserably, I still believe vaping is my best chance at success.

i started vaping to quit smoking because it was the FIRST thing i have ever come across that made me think i could quit smoking. Nothing else out there for 'smoking cessation' seemed like it had a remote possibility of working for me. Had wanted to quit for months, of course for health ... but knew better than to think i could stay disciplined; being home all day job hunting, on the computer, unemployed and stressed, and compounded by having nothing to do with my hands other than eat - i knew i would never stick to it without replacing the hand-to-mouth 'habit behavior' . I knew i would not be disciplined; and I didn't want Chantix or other drugs or carcinogenic chemicals (that was what i wanted to get away from by quitting cigs).

The second i heard about e-cigs i just KNEW that THIS was the only thing i ever thought had a real possibility of actually working. And boy, did it. It worked marvelously, better than I could have dreamed. Utterly painless. No stress, no cravings, no overeating. The first day i vaped i cut my cigs down by 75%, and by two weeks i had completely quit, easily. Best thing I ever did, and it was EASY. I love vaping, am at very low nic, and really don't plan on stopping unless something is shown to definitively be dangerous about it.

I started vaping in an attempt to quit smoking for obvious health reasons. I started with the basic starter kit and my initial thinking was, ok, I'll vape and gradually reduce my nic level and then quit altogether. Didn't quite work that way. I now own several mech mods and attys and vape regularly. Still hope to give it all up one day.

What were your reasons for quitting cigarettes, and beginning vaping?

Purely financial. If cigs were reasonably priced, I would still be smoking. Besides, I love pissing off non-smokers.

Has as it turned out the way you expected?

No. I don't think I saved money, and I don't get to piss off non-smokers.

I had no idea when I started vaping what the difference in cost was. I hadn't dared to dream that I might escape the horrible death of emphysema that I had hanging in the back of my mind for years.

All I was hoping to escape at the time was the smell. I was looking for a job at the time and always felt like they could smell it on me. It was very discouraging.

I quickly realized that the lack of smell also came in handy for being able to vape inside. That really helped me get into the habit of vaping since I could do it all the time.

Then eventually, when money was tighter, I learned to appreciate the savings too.

I'm not sure this is going to extend my life. After all, heart disease tends to be the problem in my family. But, at least I won't die gasping for breath with emphysema.

Health reasons...for Ed and I both. We're getting long in the tooth and we'd be toting around an O2 concentrator soon if we didn't stop.

I'd love to say expense but it's about the same (*we rolled our own, so at $8.00 a carton, vaping costs more honestly)

vaping turned out far better than I'd expected when I first walked in that vape shop, stamping out my ciggie grumbling about "now or never" :)

I've been smoking analogs since I was a teenager, consistantly for 10+ years. I know I should stop, but I LOVE cigarettes, and thats a big problem. I started vaping because I need to get away from cigarettes. I started with egos and a Kanger protank 1. Then into gennies (Kracken, AGA-t), then into drippers (iGO series), now I love my mvp 2 and Kayfun lite.
I plan to explore mechs soon. I love modding and building, so it only seems natural to go that route.

It's what I expected- I still smoke at least once a day, even after 1+ year of vaping. One day I'll be a sole vaper, but that day is yet to come.

I love vaping because it speaks to the hobbyist/enthusiast in me. and it postpones my next cigarette. For me, a cigarette in the morning makes it a cigarette day, but vaping in the morning makes it a vape day. some days are harder than others.

I started vaping because, I knew that as a 31 year old who couldn't breathe without a rattle in my chest, I had to do something.
I was extremely skeptical because I'd quit 3 times before (1+ year each) and returned to cigs. So far, vaping has proved to be wholly satisfying and as long as I can vape, I'll never need a cig again. For me, vaping has exceeded my expectations.

I hadn't had a routine checkup from my doctor in years, and when my wife finally persuaded me to get one (two years ago), he told me that it looked like I was in the very early stages of getting emphysema. A grandfather of mine, back in 1982, died of emphysema, and it was a slow, ugly, painful death for him, and the mere thought of that sent me into a panic. I went home and hit google so hard it's a minor miracle my computer didn't have a meltdown, searching for a way to quit smoking, other than the patch, prescription meds, etc, which I had tried before, but had failed miserably.

Then...I just happened to stumble upon an ad for Blu Cigs, and I started googling/reading up on them. Believe it or not, at the time I had no idea that e-cigs even existed. Excited, I hopped in the car and headed for Walgreens, where I bought a Blu Cig kit. And the rest, as they say, is history. Although it's pretty well known that Blu is pretty much the bottom of the barrel in the e-cig world, I'll always have a small (VERY small) soft spot for them, for helping me quit cold turkey. Well, them, and a healthy dose of fear. Fear can be a powerful motivator.
