Does exceptional wicking capability make for 'juice guzzler?'

I don't think you will use more juice with the gauze/bamboo wick as the juice consistency is constant and doesn't run dry until the juice is gone. Where as with a silica or SS wick i was always running real wet to real dry. Which I think should average out to the same amount as the gauze/bamboo wick.

I've used bamboo and plain cotton gauze. I like the gauze better, just roll it up to the diameter that you're looking for and wrap a coil. It seems a bit more neutral tasting than bamboo when it gets close to being dry. Both wick just as well.

i agree, I like the gauze taste better than the bamboo. I tried going back to silica wick and yuck. Unless something comes up to where we should not be vaping gauze I don't see me using anything else ever.;)

I am also using the bamboo and do not get any dry hits, its much better than the silica wick. I take 3 or 4 strands of the bamboo and tie a knot on one end and then attach the other end to my drill so it will twist the bamboo into one piece of wick. Then I take it off the drill and let it hang to dry. oh, I forgot to mention that is after a quick boil in water for cleaning,
I have not tryed the gauze method yet...... but by the sounds, I will have to give that a try,

thats's a great idea, much easier than braiding

does the twisted wick hold up? or unravel with handling?

The question is, how do we get a cotton wick in one of these. Could be the holy grail of vapes.

I'll do it tomorrow night and let you know ;)

My plan:

slide the wick out

twist up your cotton yarn real tight, wet the tip and get it sharp

push and twist through, grab the tip out the opposite end when it pokes out, pull and twist through

voila :)

the big question is going to be, how much wick too avoid dry burns and flooding at both extremes

cotton is juice greedy and expands with a vengeance

the coil seems like its installed similar to a stardust or echomizer, I don't see any wires or anything. these are advertised as wire free.

if you look carefully at the bottom end, you can see wires tucked away between the seals. my concern would be destroying the seals during disassembly and rewiring. at least with my fluxomizers, the gaskets are the first to die from my sloppy handling....if not them, I break the silicon cup lol

Already tried it, the thing is these atties leak like a ..... I can't get one to not leak. It's frustrating really.

If you fill with a syringe upside down as someone posted, you shouldn't get leaking. I had no leaking on mine. The issue I have is the occasional dry hits, especially in VG juices but still not a bad device (did a video review). That said, I got the 3ML tank version and it seems to perform MUCH better and holds more juice besides. If interested in these bottom coils, I'd strongly recommend the large tank over the phoenix/CE3 versions (though price may be a concern).

rewicking the pheonix

so I used 1 strand of the michaels cotton yarn. I pulled out two threads (4 to start). Placed the two threaded wick in. Dry hits, just like out of the box. Meh. Too much wick.

I removed one strand. Flooding. Too little wick. Meh.

Just put in one strand of lydias bamboo. Flooding again. Too little wick. Meh. lol

These were all trimmed flush.

The search continues.

Turn the pheonix upside down and make a E-2 out of it. LOL J Joking.

With all the attie mods I have dabbled with over the years. Feeding a coil from above has always been a problem like your having.

Trying to match the liquid flow to your vaping habits is almost impossible, To little or to much juice.

Now with the E-2. Wicking up the juice has always been a problem, until now with the cotton/ gauze.

I roll the wick just as big as I can fit in the slots of the cup and Iv'e run 30-40 mil through these puppies without one dry hit.;)

I'm arriving late at the party, but I've read through the entire thread and maybe I missed it. I see that it's recommended that the yarn be boiled before use. For the folks that have tried the cotton gauze, are you boiling that as well? I'm considering giving that a shot with a CE2 soon, maybe even tonight if I feel like I'll have the patience for it.
