I'm arriving late at the party, but I've read through the entire thread and maybe I missed it. I see that it's recommended that the yarn be boiled before use. For the folks that have tried the cotton gauze, are you boiling that as well? I'm considering giving that a shot with a CE2 soon, maybe even tonight if I feel like I'll have the patience for it.

Well You have nothing but some time to loose,,,, go for it.

In CE2s I felt like the thicker cotton gauze (braided) was wicking too much for my juices (all high VG); it was a constant gurgle if I remember correctly, like the coil was flooding but not leaking. Thiner seems to work better for me, but then again I'm using yarn as is. I think the best for me so far as been the michaels cotton yarn with one strand pulled out, which makes it three strands thick

Turn the pheonix upside down and make a E-2 out of it. LOL J Joking.

With all the attie mods I have dabbled with over the years. Feeding a coil from above has always been a problem like your having.

Trying to match the liquid flow to your vaping habits is almost impossible, To little or to much juice.

Now with the E-2. Wicking up the juice has always been a problem, until now with the cotton/ gauze.

I roll the wick just as big as I can fit in the slots of the cup and Iv'e run 30-40 mil through these puppies without one dry hit.;)

Just realized today that I forgot when I wound this coil with a cotton wick. That is my personal test of a great wicking material - when I forgot how long it's been since I put it together :) Still vaping great, no funky taste, huge vapor etc etc.

Thank you Evil for bringing this to our attention.

The concept of using silica always bothered me because it made my damn finger tips itch. SS is great when it works but I could never reach the longevity I needed without snapping a coil. Cotton is perfect; doesn't burn when it's wet, neutral taste, lasts a long time and it gives me piece of mind because I don't have to furiously wash my hands after I handle it.

Now, hopefully people who make their way into the modders forum see this thread and give it a shot.

interesting, two strands of bamboo are just as problematic as one strand of bamboo and one strand of cotton

you are correct Dong, I need a touch more wick, but so far I've been ending up with too much or too little. I'll try leaving the leaky configurations a tad longer and see if that does it

I look forward to this tutorial on rebuilding

What if we found some kind of porous carbon material? Maybe some kind of carbon fiber mesh? I was looking into carbon and graphit felt that was heat resistant up to 2,000 degrees F, but I think there would still be dust particles...
I wish we could easily test these things, there are sites out there with promising looking materials but they are so expensive.

I'm sure porous carbon or graphite has been covered, though.. just seems like it'd be a suitable material?

Carbon gives some parasite taste, very cpecific. Active carbon tastes like a steam train. Already tested.:D
