I used to have a commercial Drapery Workroom. When the machines needed to be re-threaded, you would not let it run all the way out. You tie the new thread onto the old thread and pull it thru.

Im thinking the cotton yard thread would be the same, if you tied a tight enough tiny knot. You might have to walk it through the coil if it got stuck, but might be easier than rethreading with a twisted end...try it!

I think that using thermal shrinking tube is more convinient. no knot is made and connection area is thinner then single wick.

That's a good idea too. I was thinking a slight overlap and wind it together with wire. I'll have to try next time. Right now I leave the wick long enough for about 5 pulls. After about 6-7 mls, the taste declines and it's time to pull the wick and snip. I figure after about 5 times, the coil will have to be cleaned no matter what. But I'm going to have to try this to see.

I should point out that about 75% of my vaping is in the 6 watt range. For those vaping higher watts, it may be interesting to see if the cotton holds up to 2-3 refills as well or if they need to clean the coils more often.

So how does cotton yarn stack up on a regular geni setup. I have a hybrid by poc that doesn't get much use because I can't get along with as mesh anymore. Setups and experiences please and thanks

I would love to someone run a Zen, Orion or Katana on cotton...get great results (because they will) and spread the word to a certain group of peeps...which may finally legitimize this healthy alternative :D

Urquidezj, since last night both my SS Lines are now on cotton gauze (I was running a side by side comparison, one line on mesh, one on cotton gauze, but same juice, same coil)...while filling my mesh Line I caught the long terminal connection with the cap and yanked it off...after messing with it for 20 mins re-connecting it, then just changing the coil, poking at it to get it to stop shorting, fire, prime, fire, prime, poke, poke...screw this sh1*, I just want to vape, I ripped it out, grabbed my guaze and my 2 needles and Kanthal...plumes of great tasting vape in 5 mins, done...

Grab some cotton gauze (some call it cotton batton) at your local drug store:

It's my personal favourite, yarns and butcher string works but you have to boil it, and to me it still has a "taste" not a bad taste but there just the same (just my opinion)...just rip a piece off that's about twice the thickness of your mesh wick and roll it between your palms, then twist it tight...sandwich the wick between 2 thin long sewing needles and push it into the wick hole, wrap your coil as per normal, pull the pins, fill, prime and enjoy your Katana...

I showed gauze setup and gauze/mesh dual setup, on a genesis on a Croatian forum. Didnt get much reaction; I guess mesh zealots were not impressed

Yup, can't figure it out...ah well, their lost...as I mentioned in an earlier post, it can't be the health angle so what else could it be?...granted, mesh can be difficult to master (I'm by no means there, but I can make it work fairly consistently) but there seems to be this faction of mesh users who feel that because they follow the word of Raidy they belong to some order of the Templar Knights of vaping who's duty is to rid the world of all carto users

Quig you had me confused with what you call gauze. That cotton roll should be no different than cotton balls. This pic is what I was trying as gauze.

that's exactly what i pictured, lol ;) and had plenty of :(

and i believe it should read ''cotton batting'' not ''cotton batton'' in quig's post above! seems to be a misconception/discrepancy between word usage in canada and usa

I just went with the gauze because that what was written on the package I got...but ya, I've since found out it's actually called cotton baton (but that seems to be a Canadianism, baton being a French word, Quebec...;) and I didn't want to screw up my US brothers, which is why I post that tiny pic)...the gauzing is essentially cheese cloth, which I've also had great experience with and is interchangeable with baton for the most part...I just prefer baton because you can roll nice firm sticks that are a little easier to work with (easier to see what you are doing :)

ADD: ya, what Tib said...;)

how do you roll it?

I cut a rectangle and roll it around a large pin.

I haven't tried the cotton roll or ball yet as everyone referred to gauze and this was what I thought gauze was.

Wife has a roll of cotton she uses to remove makeup and nail polish instead of cotton balls so I will sneak into her stash a steal some. lol

Like that. I have a 0,8mm wire I use to roll around (tightly). I also wrap coil with wire inside it. When I slide the wire out, it leaves just enough "breathing" room for gauze.

My problem with the gauze is that it shreds and falls apart very easily, so I am going to try the cotton roll (baton). Thanks Quig.

Really? I unwound the gauze I used for 10+ days, every single strand was in place. After cutting the rectangle for use, I remove those strands that are cut (that aren't whole from one side to another).
After rolling and twisting, I see if I can easily remove any strand. If not, its good to go.

Maybe we need to show em hybrid wick first. Couple days ago I wrapped my ss around the gauze in a E-2 just to change up the taste. TBO, I have been going to it more and more. This way It seems I can go lower ohms (from 2.2 to 1) Without scorching the gauze. It may be the ss is sucking up the heat before it gets to the gauze. Which would be a good thing for the high wattage vaporers.:)
