So after a night of sitting and the tanks 3/4 full from full over night! The one that I milled out the holes for is performing quite nicely. The other that is still stock and not milled out is choking hard. Get some great vapor but taste is pretty weak and then seems to dry out a bit. So gonna open up the holes tonight and re do the coils as they may also be too tight.

one of my IO6s gave up the ghost (my fault)

gonna rebuild it with yarn! never been so overjoyed at a devastating blow to my gear lol

Gotta say, I don't think I'd ever be "overjoyed" with popping an io6 ...imo, the best atty made (though I have to say I've not yet dropped the $20+ for a HH .357)

Choking of the wick is the #1 issue when working with cotton...it's not like silica or ceramic that tends to stay the same size once saturated with juice, cotton, especially batton (rolled) and cheese cloth can swell to 2 - 3 times it's original wick size...which leads to issue #2...over wicking and drowning your coil.

Yeah I figured as much, that's why these were test runs! Glad I didn't nail it first time to be disappointed later when I couldn't replicate the results haha. Can only get better from here!

I may also try a single ply wick too since these expand so much also and give that a shot.

Yeah I am looking forward to the results. I mean seriously anyone on the fence about this needs to try this now! What do you have to lose? .99 cents at cvs and 20 min of time to coil a new head?! It's totally worth it I will not be going back to silica (spelling?) that is for sure. The hit is just so clean and no irritation at all!

I've been having some great success using the cotton batten keeping it loose. IOW, I don't roll the cotton into a dense string like wick. I loosely roll it just enough to give it shape and to get it through the coil.

Yeah I was thinking about trying that too. Do you use 1 ply or 2 or is it a thicker deal like a cotton ball that you are making into a wick?

I read though almost this whole thing today and I have to say Damn! Did cotton gauze tonight on both of my vivis and the taste is SOOOO much better.

I have one I milled out at the bottom of the wick entry and one I didn't to test and the one I milled is performing much much better then the one I did not. Used 2 layers and rolled them and twisted til I made a wick and wrapped them in kanthal 2.5O at 4.8 V it's damn good and no more throat irritation!

So I filed the wick slots right open in one of my Vivi heads (3/16 maybe?) and put 50 threads worth of cheese cloth in it with a 1.5 coil...man! what an amazing piece of gear these things are!...I would really like to know how a $14 piece of crap that can be re-wicked in 5 mins (or less), that doesn't leak and super easy to fill can keep up with my Ody?:facepalm::facepalm:

Yeah...... it's pretty awesome. I am glad I got 2 of them. I am awaiting the next shipment get some minis and another regular one. Plus with 3 heads you get you pretty much won't need to ever buy another one again. Gonna slim down my wicks to 1 ply tonight and see how it goes. I think it's gonna be pretty good.

If I remember right I used a 3/32 or maybe it was 3/64 to drill out the bore. It's posted in the rebuilding your Vivi post.

I think with these new wicks, boring out the wick entry puts these at pretty much perfect. May have similar results with the rebuild-able stardust since they use the same head.

I've increased my mLs/day somewhat, just from the fact that in the CE2s that I use, the cotton wicks much better than the silica so I'm getting more vapor/puff. I went from ~3mL/day to probably ~4mL/day (these are guesstimates since I don't keep a close track on consumption). I do know that I'm topping off my CE2 more often than with silica and actually vaping the juice level lower than with silica.

(hmmm, have spell checker with Google Chrome and "guesstimate" is indeed spelled that way :D)

I've been kicking around making some testing juice at about 5mg nic...all this experimenting with different mediums and devices has pushed me to nic OD a couple times now...especially with cotton

I've been trying SS Mesh wrapped cotton string wicks in my Echo Vision Crystal cartomizers. I've been wrapping only the section that is inside the tube...about 1/8" or a little more.

Last night I rinsed and dry-burned a couple of them. One I immediately put back to use. Today I decided to examine one more closely. Upon removal from the tube I found the doubled cotton string wick easily pulled apart where the dry burning had taken place. It was obviously charred. The other continues to work and I'm currently vaping on it.

Conclusion - The SS Mesh can extend the life of these cotton string wicks when used with less than clear ejuice. Vaping seems as good as with plain cotton string. Gunk buildup seems to be limited to the outside of the mesh and coil area. The success of dry burning is limited and may not be good for more than one extension of wick life. Gunk buildup may be a little slower than the clogging that happens to cotton string only wicks.

I received about 14 feet of cotton clad hemp candle wick today. It appears there is more cotton content than hemp wick. The size is about 1/16" in diameter. I've clad a single strand with SS Mesh in the coil area, installed in an Echo Crystal Vision cartomizer and it is soaking at present. I hope to report on it soon. Next I need a fresh wick, I may try one without mesh cladding.

I may have to do something like this soon. I'm in the SGMV3 co-op, getting into a co-op for the "Vivi rebuildable" and getting into the Phoenix Atomizer Bully Rebuildable atomizer co-op. So should have a number of rebuildables to play with shortly.
