X-rayed, Microwaved non allergenic sterilized cotton gauze worries you more than how they process cotton yarn?
Go figure.

Is that all that is done? There is a weird smell (a medical smell not a cotton smell) that most gauze pads have what causes that smell?

I am doing 2.2 /2.4 ohm in my vivi novas hard to get much more with 32g in the space. I agree with you on the batten, it is the only one that can keep up with my 6 second double draw vape and that is only with a double wick, one in the coil and one over. I could never get cotton to work on my genesis. On the second or third double draw the wick would burn. I guess it comes from so many years of no filter cigarettes and inhaling cigars, but I need a lot of vaper to enjoy this. The vivi nova dual wicked does it and is up close to the line with SS.

Completely agree, before vaping I smoked with machine revving tension...if it wasn't for finding Smok Mega DCC's after the usual eGo start almost a year ago now I would have given up on this vaping thing right out of the chute...having said that BJ, though I do like the rolled, I've found that the grocery store cheese cloth out wicks it (in fact in my experience with cotton, cheese cloth out wicks it all)...and as far as cottenizing gennys...if you have any (I'm sure you do) roll up a big center hole wick in 170 mesh and do the cheese cloth thread wrap under the coil (just one thread thick)...with a 3/4 32 awg wrap at fresh batt V...I "cannot" get my Line to dry hit...and I tested this during one of my buddies "bucket -o-Margarita" nights

Will get some cheese cloth, figured it would be the same as gauze and that didn't work for me.

The med gauze is different, don't really know what they do but I've found, at least on the med gauze I've got, if you drop a little juice on it, it tends to "rain drop" for a bit before soaking in...with the cheese cloth, it absorbs virtually instantly...it might just be the stuff I'm using (Johnson and Johnson) but for the $3 it's worth the experiment

Maybe they have some anti-bacterial additive. The gauze I have doesn't have any weird smell at all.

KEY point - lots of the gauze has (what we'd term) useless crud on it - be careful that it is not treated (it should be labeled as such).

Umm...that's weird, huh? Boiled 1st?

Did your coil resistance also happen to drop a good bit? The drop in resistance happens on any coil I put my extraction in, so I was just curious (very well likely something goofy with my extraction). I don't get much build up, and only used coffee filters. Don't even remember if my solvent was PG or VG or both or what at this point, but no ETOH.

Oddly enough, no. I just tasted scorching juice and suddenly had the vaguely satisfying feeling of inhaling something burnt lol. I opened the top cap and saw the crud. I actually wiped it off clean, and then hit the trigger for ten seconds and watched some more form.

I have been posting about these in an other thread(s) but this is similar, probably not the same brand, but I am having great success with the wicks, here is my source. Please don't tell the janitor where I work . Of coarse the are not used.View attachment 125080

Oh maybe I better say the tag does say 100% cotton

I think I saw one of those posts. Are they better new or is like like a grill that gets better after it's been used a few times? :)

I finally finished this entire thread after 4 days in front of my computer. I almost quit vaping because I was convinced that the Chinese stuff I've been vaping on for the past 2 years wasn't good for me. After taking a fresh boge apart and seeing and smelling a nasty chemical used for whatever reason, I desperately began a search for a better way to deliver my precious liquid.

I stumbled across this thread and I am more than satisfied with the outcome. Cotton rocks! The night I found this thread I ordered a Phoenix RBA and some kanthal from stormys. A few days later after running to cvs and picking up gauze, I followed all of your instruction, built my first cotton coil and was blown away. Unbelievable difference. All the hype was indeed true. I must say that this really isn't that hard at all if you read the entire thread and watch a few videos. I have built a few perfect coils in the past week and haven't messed one up yet..

Since then, I have ordered much more kanthal,3 vivi's and a ton of juice. I even bought the Provari I've been wanting for soooo long. This thread alone has rekindled my love for vaping. I cannot show enough appreciation for all of the users contributing to what I think is a very important topic. Thank everyone sooo much!!

The only down side I can possibly find is teaching all of my fellow vapers this new method. I see my buddy at work choking down a smoktech dcc and I'm dying to show him the ways of the cotton. I took a toke off my girlfriends carto last night and it tasted horrible. Maybe ill open an organic green vape shop....? Lol it would be cool if someone mass produced these for people who aren't so good at DIY stuff. Then again, IMO a lot of the satisfaction is due to me knowing I built the coil myself. I'm much more confident now and it feels good.

Thanks again everyone. Now I'll have to find a way to give back to this forum..

Btw, I'm using the vivi with silver legs off the coil. I tried running the kanthal straight down and also doubling it. Both times it burned the silicone. Burning rubber concerns me more than silica.. Check the pics of my first coils.

Hey Mickey.. you always there to help.. thanks man.. i should boil it until? then of course need to dry them correct?

I can only tell you what I do. Others will have different opinions. I take a length of it, I'm guessing about 60ft., put that in a sauce pan with water, bring it to a boil and let it boil for 10 minutes. Then take it off the burner, pour out the water, rinse it a couple times in the pan. Then boil it for another 10 minutes and rinse again. To dry, I press it in a towel, wrap in a loop about 2ft. long and hang the loop to dry. It'll dry over night. Wind it in a ball and it's ready to use. I don't know how long that ball will last, I haven't run out yet. :)
