basic question.

I know this thread was started to discuss safer vaping materials. I am curious what you are comparing the cotton's to?

what I mean is at this point, do all of you think it is safer than silica, or mesh or both? Or do you just like the ease of making them and the taste better?

I find mesh to have good flavor, and it is easy to make for me. It also lasts forever. If I had a concern, it would have to be with silica, which is what lead me here. I am looking to replace that material in the devices that use it, not necessarily the mesh.

just curious about your thoughts.

thanks!

I've only used cotton, so far, in re-wicking my CE2s. My main point in using cotton over the stock silica wick is that it does wick a LOT better than silica. If it does turn out to be safer than silica (don't see how it could be less safe than silica), that will just be an added bonus to me.
I tried mesh in a re-buildable CE2; but there issues other than the mesh with that setup. When I get my SGMV3 and SmokTech re-buildables, I may revisit mesh and compare with cotton.

Silica aside, I'm personally neither a hater or fanboy of any one medium...I've tried almost all and all seem to have their merits as well as short comings...but this is Evil's thread and cotton is mostly the point of discussion (mostly ;))...I don't think anyone is going to drag you out into your front yard and beat you for using mesh (I hope not cause I still do), nor is it a "do what we do or you suck" thread...it's about healthier "alternatives" not "replacements"

The first post describes what the thread should be about, though we stray sometimes. I was a devoted SS aficionado for many years and only pure curiosity and some friends here that I have gotten to respect their opinions got me to try it. Much has been written about the health hazards of silica and tho many still use it, I try to stay away. I am really happy with cotton on my vivi nova, not so much on my genesis line type. You can't go wrong with either SS or cotton and probably the two healthiest wicks so far.

What BJ said

My ONLY concern with mesh is, carbonized crap being aerosoled into my lungs on a chronic basis leading to a increased risk of cancer. Purely a hypothetical ...., but it does bother me (the idea I mean).

I torch my wicks after every tankful or two for this reason, hoping I'm eradicating everything but metal. Probably a pipe dream. And before you ask no they don't become brittle and disintegrate, maybe I have a special touch.

Number one thing I'm paranoid about these days is flavors to be honest. I can tell you why, but that's another story and likely requires 250K of education and an anxiety disorder to understand :vapor:
