Well after about trying about 5 times I finally got what I was looking for. I almost gave up. I could disassemble one of the pre built atomizers and re wick with no issues but the rebuildable deck was kicking my ...!! Even the method in the video did not work. It would dry hit after 5 puffs and ruin the wick.

Here is my theory. I have the subtank mini and vape at 25 watts on a .6 ohm coil. The mini just doesn't have enough space I think for a large enough wick to support that. Too much wick and it clogged the juice channels. Too little and it would dry it out too quickly. What I did was ran the wick through the coil using the method in the vid. I cut the wick long enough on each side so when I screwed the chimney back on a few cm would be above the top. Then I split each end in half like a snakes tongue so there where 4 total wicks coming off the coil. Once the chimney was screwed back on I trimmed them flush with the top and then pushed the ends down on each side of the juice channel. All four wick ends where then touching the deck and I could see light through the channels looking down. I primed it, put the chimney cap on, put it in the tank, and golden. Finally!!!

i had problems with what you're describing on my first few attempts and what it was was too much cotton in the coil, but just in the coil so what i do is use buttkickers method but i pull the cotton back and forth a dozen or so times before i start working the wick into shape and it solved the dry hit problem completly too, other than that i feel that i can just throw the wick on the deck and behappy after its trimmed, a couple times i just trimmed it and threw the barrel on and didnt even worry about where the cotton was and it was ok

Well that explains it.

The higher power you want to vape at, the more work the wicking has to perform, so the more critical your wicking becomes.

I have found i get a better vape on mech mods and my wicks and stock coils last a lot longer.
The best way I can explain is like a starter motor on your car. When you first hit the key it draws like
500amps and then once it gets the motor turning it drops of to like 150 or 200.
I've only play with the sub tank and goblin, but I have found mechs work best with small diameter
coils and single coils like sub tank.
Long story short try a mech mod
Edit : I get the same vapor production with better taste
If you use an oms law calculator with a mech single 18650 at .6 omhs you use 28 watts 6.8 amps at 4.1v
And 19 watts 5.6amps at 3.4v. But, those numbers change with heat as the coil heats and that where variables
come into play. But in my experience 28watts on a regulated mod will smoke a stock coil on the sub tank, but on a mech mod you should be good.
